Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Verifying a WAEC certificate for a UK university or job

How a UK university or employer can confirm your WAEC result through WAEC Verify, what you need to buy, and what the portal does not say.

The short answer

WAEC runs an online service, WAEC Verify (verify.waeconline.org.ng), that lets institutions, employers and individuals check that a WAEC result is authentic. The checker creates an account and uses a verification PIN, bought online or from an authorised financial institution such as First Bank; each PIN lasts a year and covers up to five checks on the same exam number. The FAQ does not publish the PIN price, so the portal shows it at purchase.

UK universities, nursing and teaching employers and some recruitment agencies ask Nigerian applicants to prove their WAEC (WASSCE) result. A photocopy of the certificate is rarely enough on its own, because the receiving organisation wants to hear it from WAEC. This guide explains how WAEC's own verification service works, based on its FAQ as at October 2026, and how to make the check easy for a UK reader.

The service WAEC provides

WAEC Verify is an online service for checking the authenticity of WAEC results. Its FAQ says it "allows institutions, employers, and individuals to verify the authenticity of WAEC results" and covers both school candidate and private candidate results. The main points on the FAQ page:

  • Access is through the website only; there is no mobile app.
  • The user creates an account, subscribes and then logs in to run checks.
  • Checks need a verification PIN, bought on the platform or from an authorised financial institution, with First Bank given as an example.
  • A PIN is valid for one year from purchase and can be used up to five times for the same exam number or previously verified requests.
  • Payment is by card, bank transfer or other online options; bulk verification is offered at discounted prices, with no figures given.
  • Payment is final: a verification request cannot be changed or cancelled once paid for.
  • Results are available to verify two weeks after WAEC releases them; after that the check is instant.

Who runs the check: you or the UK organisation

Because the service is open to individuals as well as institutions, there are two ways to handle a UK request.

The university or employer checks directly

Some UK admissions and HR teams prefer to run the check themselves so the answer comes straight from WAEC. In that case, send them the details they will need: your full name exactly as it appears on the certificate, your exam number, the exam year and the type of sitting (school or private candidate). Ask whether they already have a WAEC Verify account; organisations that check many Nigerian results may have a bulk arrangement.

You check and forward the result

If the organisation is happy for you to run the check, buy a PIN, run the verification on your own result and send them the output, together with a copy of the certificate. Ask first whether a self-run check is acceptable; some employers will not accept anything that passes through the candidate's hands.

Steps from the UK

  1. Ask the university or employer what form of WAEC confirmation it accepts, and who should run the check.
  2. Find your certificate and confirm the exam number, year and sitting type. If you have lost the certificate, ask WAEC what it can issue in its place before you start.
  3. Create an account on WAEC Verify and buy a PIN. From the UK, paying online by card is usually simpler than buying through a bank in Nigeria.
  4. Run the check (or pass the details to the organisation if it is checking) and save the result.
  5. Send the result, a scan of the certificate and, if your name has changed since the exam, evidence of the change.

Common problems

  • Name differences. If your WAEC certificate shows a maiden name or a different spelling, the UK reader will notice. Include your marriage certificate or deed poll; see updating Nigerian records after a UK name change.
  • Several sittings. If you combine results from two sittings, each exam number is a separate check, and the five-use limit applies per exam number.
  • Recent results. Results cannot be verified until two weeks after release.
  • Mixing up comparability and verification. WAEC Verify confirms the result is real. If the organisation also wants to know what WASSCE compares to in the UK, that is a separate question, answered by a UK ENIC Statement of Comparability (listed at £69.60 as at October 2026); our guide to the UK ENIC Statement of Comparability explains how comparability statements work.

Making it easy for the UK reader

A UK admissions officer or HR adviser may be checking dozens of overseas results and has little time to work out a Nigerian certificate. A short covering note helps: say which examination it is (WASSCE, school or private candidate), the year, your exam number, the subjects and grades the organisation asked about, and how the verification was done. Attach the certificate scan and the verification output as separate, clearly named files.

Keep your own copy of everything you send and a note of the date. If the same employer, or a later one, asks again within the year, the PIN can be reused on the same exam number until its five uses run out, so you do not need to buy another.

Where Pryme fits

If you pay for a WAEC PIN in naira, a Pryme account lets you hold naira alongside pounds, and Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve the conversion. Nothing about the verification itself changes; it is still WAEC's portal that confirms your result.

Questions people ask

How can a UK employer verify my WAEC certificate?

Through WAEC Verify, WAEC's online service for institutions, employers and individuals. The checker creates an account and uses a verification PIN to confirm your result.

How much is a WAEC verification PIN?

The WAEC Verify FAQ does not publish a price. The portal shows it when you buy; bulk checks are offered at discounted prices.

How many times can I use a WAEC verification PIN?

Up to five times for the same exam number, within one year of purchase, according to the FAQ.

Can I verify my WAEC result if I just finished the exam?

Only from two weeks after WAEC releases the results, the FAQ says. After that the check is instant.
