Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Changed your name by UK deed poll: updating Nigerian records

The order to update your NIN, Nigerian passport, BVN and banks after a UK deed poll, why the order matters, and how your UKVI account fits in.

The short answer

A UK deed poll changes the name you use in the UK, but it does not update anything in Nigeria by itself, and the Nigeria High Commission in London does not accept a deed poll for a passport name change: it changes names only on marriage or divorce. Start with your NIN record at NIMC, ask NIS which documents it will accept for your passport, then update your BVN and banks.

Nigerians in the UK change their names by deed poll for many reasons: dropping or adding a family name, correcting a spelling that has followed them since school, or reverting after divorce. The UK side is quick. The Nigerian side takes longer, because several systems check against each other. Getting the order right saves months.

The UK side: which deed poll

GOV.UK describes two types:

TypeWhoCost and process
Unenrolled deed pollAnyone aged 16 or overYou make it yourself and start using the new name
Enrolled deed pollAdults aged 18 or overApplied for through the High Court to put the change on public record; £53.05 as at October 2026

GOV.UK notes that some organisations, such as certain banks, mobile phone companies and energy providers, accept only an enrolled deed poll. Nigerian offices may take a similar view. If you are changing your name for good and will need Nigerian records updated, an enrolled deed poll is usually easier to rely on abroad. Ask the Nigerian office in advance.

If you are only taking a spouse's surname, GOV.UK says you do not need a deed poll at all; a copy of the marriage certificate is the evidence. See changing your passport surname after marrying in the UK for that case.

Why the order matters in Nigeria

Nigerian identity records are linked. The Nigeria Immigration Service's guide to applying for a standard passport says that after you verify your NIN, the application's personal details are drawn from your NIMC record. If your NIN still shows the old name, a passport application in the new name will not match. Banks then verify you against your BVN, which is checked against your ID. So the usual order is:

  1. NIN record (NIMC). Apply for a change of name modification, with your deed poll and supporting documents. NIMC's requirements and fees are set out in our Nigeria library guide how to correct your NIN details. Nigerian offices often also ask for a sworn affidavit of change of name and a newspaper publication; check what NIMC asks for at the time you apply.
  2. Nigerian passport. Be careful here. The Nigeria High Commission in London lists a deed poll as not accepted for a passport name change; at the mission, a change of name is processed only on marriage (with the marriage certificate) or divorce (with the divorce certificate and proof of the maiden name). If your change is for any other reason, ask the High Commission or the Nigeria Immigration Service, before you book, which documents they will take; in Nigeria this usually means a sworn affidavit and a newspaper or gazette notice rather than a UK deed poll. Our guide to correcting name details on a Nigerian passport in the UK covers the appointment and documents.
  3. BVN and banks. With the new passport and NIN, ask each Nigerian bank to update your BVN record and account name. Our Nigeria library explains the CBN rules in BVN correction for name changes.
  4. Everything else. Pension administrator, land records, company records at CAC, telco SIM registration, school and professional certificates as needed.

Your UK immigration record

If you are in the UK on an eVisa, your UKVI account must match the passport you travel on. GOV.UK's eVisa guidance says that to change your name in your UKVI account you need an identity document proving the change; the deed poll alone is not enough. Once your new Nigerian passport is issued, update the account; see linking a new Nigerian passport to your UKVI account. GOV.UK also says you cannot change your name or passport while a visa application decision is pending.

Certificates and records in your old name

Your WAEC result, Nigerian degree and professional certificates will stay in your old name; they are not reissued because you changed your name. That is normal. What UK employers, universities and verification services need is a clear link between the two names. Keep a certified copy of the deed poll with each certificate you send, and if a UK body is verifying a Nigerian result, tell it in advance that the names differ. Our guides on verifying a WAEC certificate and the UK ENIC Statement of Comparability explain where the name evidence goes.

What to check first

  • Does the Nigerian office want an enrolled deed poll, an affidavit, a newspaper notice or all three?
  • Is the new name spelt exactly the same on every document you will submit?
  • Are you mid-way through a UK visa application? If so, wait for the decision before changing your passport details with UKVI.
  • Do certificates in your old name (WAEC, degree) need a covering link document? Keep the deed poll with them.

Where Pryme fits

If you hold a Pryme account, contact us through the contact page once your new passport is issued so your account details match your ID. Keeping your accounts in your current legal name avoids failed verifications when you send or receive money.

Questions people ask

Does a UK deed poll change my name in Nigeria?

No. You need to update each Nigerian record, starting with your NIN, then your passport, then your BVN and banks.

Can I renew my Nigerian passport in a new name after a deed poll?

Not on a deed poll alone. The Nigeria High Commission London lists a deed poll as not accepted; it changes names on marriage or divorce. For other changes, ask NIS which documents it will accept.

Should I use an enrolled or unenrolled deed poll for Nigerian records?

GOV.UK says some organisations accept only enrolled deed polls. An enrolled one (£53.05 as at October 2026) is usually easier to rely on; ask the Nigerian office.

Do I need to update my UK eVisa after changing my name?

Yes. GOV.UK says you need an identity document proving the change, so update the UKVI account once your new passport is issued.
