Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Child's Nigerian passport in the UK when parents are separated

What the Nigeria High Commission asks for when separated parents apply for a child's passport: consent from both, or court proof of sole custody.

The short answer

The Nigeria High Commission in London asks for a letter of consent signed by both parents for any applicant under 18, plus copies of both parents' passport data pages (at least one Nigerian) and the child's long birth certificate. If the other parent's consent is not available, it asks for proof of sole custody from a court; if a Nigerian parent has died, a death certificate. Under-18s cannot use the postal route.

Applying for a child's Nigerian passport is routine when both parents are at the appointment. When parents have separated, the consent requirement becomes the hard part, and it is where many UK applications stop. This guide sets out what the Nigeria High Commission in London asks for, what to do when the other parent will not sign and how the court-order route works.

The High Commission's rule for under-18s

The High Commission's e-passport requirements page (checked October 2026) lists these documents for applicants under 18:

  • Copies of both parents' passport data pages, at least one of which must be Nigerian
  • A letter of consent signed by both parents
  • If consent is not available, proof of sole custody from a court
  • A death certificate if a Nigerian parent has died
  • The child's long birth certificate

So the default is consent from both parents, not one. This is stricter than the general description on the Nigeria Immigration Service passports page, which refers to a letter of consent from a parent for minors applying in Nigeria. When you apply through the High Commission in London, follow the High Commission's list.

Three situations and what each needs

Your situationWhat the High Commission's list points to
Separated, but the other parent will signConsent letter signed by both parents, plus copies of both data pages
Other parent refuses or cannot be reachedProof of sole custody from a court
The Nigerian parent has diedDeath certificate, plus the surviving parent's data page and consent

If the other parent will cooperate

Separation itself is not a barrier. Ask the other parent for a short signed letter consenting to the child's Nigerian passport application, with their full name, contact details and a copy of their passport data page. If they live elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the letter can be posted or scanned, but bring originals where you can. Some families have the letter witnessed or notarised to avoid questions; the High Commission does not state that this is required. Our guide to using a UK notary for Nigerian documents explains that step if you choose it.

If the other parent will not sign

The High Commission's alternative is proof of sole custody from a court. That means a court document, not a letter from a solicitor or a statement from you. If you already have a UK family court order about where the child lives or who has parental responsibility, take a certified copy. If the order's wording is different from "sole custody", ask the High Commission in writing before your appointment whether it will be accepted, so you do not travel to London for nothing.

If the other parent is not Nigerian

Only one parent must be Nigerian. A British or other non-Nigerian parent still provides a data page copy and signs the consent. See a Nigerian passport for a child with one British parent for the documents the Nigerian parent needs.

The rest of the application

  • Appointment, not post. The contactless postal route is not available for under-18s, so the child must attend an appointment or an intervention session.
  • Fees. The NIS booklet fee abroad is $150 (32-page) or $230 (64-page) in the NIS Service Level Agreement 2026, plus the High Commission's £20 charge.
  • NIN. The High Commission asks for a NIN copy that matches the passport details. A child needs their own NIN; see NIN for a UK-born child.
  • Birth certificate. The long UK birth certificate showing both parents.
  • Return envelope. Prepaid Royal Mail C4 Special Delivery, self-addressed.

Before you book

  1. Decide which situation you are in and gather the matching document: consent letter, court order or death certificate.
  2. Get copies of both parents' passport data pages.
  3. Check the child's NIN record matches the name order on the birth certificate.
  4. Apply and pay on the NIS portal, then book an appointment.
  5. If anything is unusual, such as a foreign court order or a name that differs from the birth certificate, email the High Commission first at hc@nigeriahc.org.uk.

Where Pryme fits

Separated parents often share costs such as school fees and trips home. A Pryme account keeps GBP and NGN apart, and the Personal Assistant can set reminders for shared payments; nothing moves without your approval.

Questions people ask

Do both parents need to sign for a child's Nigerian passport in the UK?

Yes, by default. The High Commission in London asks for a letter of consent signed by both parents, or proof of sole custody from a court if consent is not available.

What if my ex refuses to consent to our child's Nigerian passport?

The High Commission's alternative is court proof of sole custody. A letter from you or a solicitor is not the same thing. Check with the High Commission whether your order's wording will be accepted.

Can I renew my child's Nigerian passport by post?

No. The High Commission says the contactless postal route is not available for applicants under 18.

Does the other parent have to be Nigerian?

No. At least one of the two parents' passport data pages must be Nigerian. The other parent still provides a data page copy and consent.
