Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Starting a hair salon in Ireland: licences and costs

What a Nigerian stylist needs to open a salon in Ireland: permission to trade, CRO and Revenue registration, premises checks and a running-cost budget.

The short answer

To open a hair salon in Ireland you need an immigration permission that lets you run a business (Stamp 4 does; Stamp 1G and Stamp 2 do not), a business structure registered with Revenue and, if you trade under a name other than your own, a CRO business name. We found no salon-specific licence on the official pages we checked, so confirm premises, planning and any local requirements with your local authority before you sign a lease.

Start with your permission

Irish Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) publishes the business rules for each stamp. Stamp 4 holders can establish and operate a business. Stamp 1G graduates can work as employees but are not permitted to operate a business or be self-employed, and Stamp 2 students must not engage in any other business or trade. Braiding from home for paying clients is self-employment, so the same rule applies to a home business as to a shopfront. Details are in running a business on Stamp 1G or Stamp 2.

Registering the business

  • Sole trader. Register with Revenue for income tax; see Form TR1.
  • Business name. If the salon trades as anything other than your surname ("Crown Braids", "Lagos Glow Studio"), the CRO requires registration within one month of adopting the name, on Form RBN1, for €20 online or €40 on paper (CRO, May 2026). The certificate must be displayed at the salon.
  • Company. If you want limited liability or plan to grow, incorporate through the CRO with an Irish registered office.

Licences and permissions: what to confirm

We could not confirm from an official source in October 2026 whether Ireland requires a licence specific to hairdressing. Rather than guess, confirm each of these locally:

  1. Planning use of the unit. Ask the local authority's planning department whether the premises' permitted use covers a salon, and whether your sign needs permission.
  2. Local requirements. Ask the same council whether any local bye-laws or registrations apply to hair or beauty businesses in that area.
  3. Employer registration. If you take on staff, you will need to register as an employer with Revenue before the first payday.
  4. Insurance. Ask your landlord and an insurer which cover you need, such as public liability, and get quotes before you commit.
  5. Products. If you sell hair or skin products, especially ones you import or make, cosmetics rules apply; see selling shea butter and cosmetics.

Your Local Enterprise Office may be able to point you to the right council contacts.

Ways to start

ModelHow it worksThings to weigh
Mobile or home-basedYou visit clients or see them at homeLow cost; check planning, insurance and your lease or tenancy
Chair or room rentalYou rent a chair in an existing salonClarify who is self-employed, who takes payments, and who insures
Own salonLease and fit out a unitHighest cost and control; planning and fit-out checks first

Worked example: monthly running costs

Example only. These are illustrative figures for a small two-chair salon, not quotes; your rent, rates and wages will differ.

Monthly costExample (€)
Rent1,800
Electricity, water, heating400
Hair, extensions and products600
Insurance150
Card payment fees120
Accountant200
Total3,270

If the average appointment brings in €60, the salon needs €3,270 ÷ €60 = 54.5, so 55 appointments a month just to cover these costs, before paying yourself or any staff. Long braiding appointments can earn more per client but fill the chair for hours, so price by time as well as style.

Staff and chair renters

Most salons grow by adding people, and the arrangement you choose has legal and tax consequences. An employee works your hours, uses your products and is paid through payroll, which means registering as an employer with Revenue. A chair renter pays you rent and runs their own business, with their own clients, prices and tax. Write the arrangement down: who sets prices, who takes the card payment, who buys products, who insures the work. If the reality looks like employment, a written "rental" agreement may not change how it is treated. Check each person's immigration permission too, because a stylist on Stamp 1G can be your employee but cannot rent a chair as a self-employed stylist.

Pricing for time

Knotless braids, locs and weaves can take four to eight hours. Work out your cost per chair-hour from the running-cost table, then price each style by the hours it takes, plus hair and products. A style that looks profitable per client can lose money per hour.

Funding

Microfinance Ireland lends €2,000 to €50,000 at 6.5% (as at October 2026, per its site) to businesses based in Ireland with fewer than 10 employees and turnover under €2 million that are struggling to get finance elsewhere; see Microfinance Ireland loans.

What to check first

  1. Your stamp allows self-employment.
  2. The unit's planning use and signage.
  3. Revenue registration, and a CRO business name if needed.
  4. Insurance and product compliance before opening day.

Where Pryme fits

Many salon owners buy hair and products from Nigerian suppliers. A Business Account holds euro and naira with local details for each, and the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve a conversion.

Questions people ask

Do I need a licence to open a hair salon in Ireland?

We could not confirm a national salon licence from official sources in October 2026. You do need permission to run a business, Revenue registration, a CRO business name if you trade under another name, and local planning checks.

Can I do braids from home in Ireland?

Only if your immigration permission allows self-employment, such as Stamp 4. Check planning and your tenancy too.

How much does it cost to register a salon name in Ireland?

The CRO charges €20 online or €40 on paper for a business name (RBN1), according to its page in May 2026.

Can I get a loan to open a salon in Ireland?

Microfinance Ireland lends €2,000 to €50,000 at 6.5% (October 2026) to small businesses struggling to get finance elsewhere.
