Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Registering as a sole trader in Ireland: Form TR1 steps

When a self-employed Nigerian in Ireland must register with Revenue, when Form TR1 is the right route, and what PRSI and preliminary tax follow.

The short answer

You register as a sole trader with Revenue either through myAccount eRegistration or on Form TR1 (parts A and B); Revenue says TR1 is for resident individuals, partnerships and trusts registering for Income Tax, VAT, employer PAYE/PRSI and other taxes, while someone needing Income Tax only can use eRegistration. Revenue requires self-assessment registration once taxable non-PAYE income exceeds €5,000 or gross non-PAYE income exceeds €30,000. Check your immigration stamp first, as some stamps do not allow self-employment.

Going self-employed in Ireland is common among Nigerians: cleaning and care businesses, hair and beauty, IT contracting, food, logistics, consulting for clients in Lagos. Revenue's registration is quick, but the order of steps matters, and the immigration question comes before the tax one. This guide uses Revenue, CRO and Immigration Service Delivery pages, checked October 2026. It is information, not tax or immigration advice.

Step zero: does your immigration permission allow it?

Immigration Service Delivery's page on permission stamps is clear about some of the stamps Nigerians commonly hold:

StampBusiness or self-employment
Stamp 4Can establish and operate a business; no employment permit needed
Stamp 1 (employment permit holders)Must not engage in any business, trade or profession unless a letter of permission from ISD allows it
Stamp 1G (graduates)May work full time but is not permitted to operate a business or be self-employed
Stamp 2 (students)Casual work within the hour limits; must not engage in any other business or trade

If your stamp does not permit self-employment, registering with Revenue does not change that. Speak to ISD or a regulated immigration adviser before trading.

When you must register

Revenue says you should register for self-assessment if you are self-employed. It also sets thresholds for people with side income: registration is required where taxable non-PAYE income is more than €5,000 or gross non-PAYE income is more than €30,000. Below those levels, the income can be declared on Form 12 through myAccount instead. See freelance income on top of a PAYE job for that case.

eRegistration or Form TR1?

myAccount eRegistration
For individuals who need to register for Income Tax only.
Form TR1
For resident individuals, partnerships and trusts registering for Income Tax, VAT, employer PAYE/PRSI, Relevant Contracts Tax or Capital Gains Tax. Use it if you will also register for VAT or employ people. Revenue's self-assessment page refers to parts A and B of the TR1.
Form TR2 / ROS
For companies. If you are setting up a limited company instead, see registering with the CRO.

Form TR1, step by step

  1. Have your PPS number ready (see getting a PPS number).
  2. Complete parts A and B as the form directs, giving your personal details and the details of the business you are starting.
  3. Tick each tax you are registering for: Income Tax, and VAT or employer PAYE/PRSI if they apply.
  4. Sign and send the form to Revenue as the form directs, keeping a copy.
  5. Once registered, set up ROS if you will file online; Revenue says most self-assessed taxpayers must file Form 11 online through ROS.

Trading under a different name

If you trade under any name other than your own, for example "Lagos Kitchen Dublin", the CRO says you must register the business name within one month of adopting it. Individuals use Form RBN1, which costs €20 online through CORE or €40 on paper. Registration gives no protection over the name, and words such as Limited or Ltd cannot be used by a sole trader.

What comes after registration

  • PRSI Class S. Revenue lists the rate at 4.2% of gross income up to 30 September 2026 and 4.35% from 1 October 2026, with a minimum of €650, where annual income is at least €5,000 (see PRSI Class S explained).
  • Preliminary tax. Paid by 31 October of the tax year. Revenue's minimum is the lowest of 90% of the current year's liability, 100% of the previous year's, or 105% of the year before that (by direct debit only). In your first self-assessed year it may not be required.
  • Annual return. Form 11 is due by 31 October of the following year; for the 2025 return, Revenue's filing page gave Saturday 31 October 2026, or Wednesday 18 November 2026 if you pay and file on ROS.

Example: a sole trader with €30,000 of gross income charged at the 4.35% rate would pay €1,305 in Class S PRSI (€30,000 × 4.35%), above the €650 minimum. This leaves out income tax and USC, which depend on credits and allowable expenses.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account holds EUR and NGN side by side, which helps if you are paid by Nigerian clients or send money home (multicurrency account), and verifiable receipts and statements through VerifyDoc.ai can support your records. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

How do I register as self-employed in Ireland?

Through myAccount eRegistration if you need Income Tax only, or on Form TR1 if you are also registering for VAT or as an employer. You need a PPS number.

Do I have to register a business name as a sole trader?

Only if you trade under a name other than your own. The CRO says register within one month on Form RBN1, €20 online or €40 on paper.

Can I be self-employed on Stamp 1G?

No. ISD says Stamp 1G holders are not permitted to operate a business or be self-employed. Stamp 4 holders can.

What is the PRSI rate for sole traders in Ireland?
