Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to register a company with the CRO as a Nigerian in Ireland

Form A1, the constitution, CORE, the €50 fee and the director rules a Nigerian founder in Ireland needs to get right before filing.

The short answer

You register an Irish company by filing Form A1 and a constitution online through CORE, the Companies Registration Office (CRO) system. The CRO fee page lists Form A1 at €50 electronically, and the CRO aims to issue the certificate within five working days under its Fé Phráinn scheme or ten working days for an ordinary online A1. Nationality does not stop a Nigerian from forming a company, but the board must meet the EEA-residence rule.

Being Nigerian is not a barrier to owning or running an Irish company. What the CRO cares about is the paperwork: who the directors and secretary are, where the registered office is, what the company does and what its constitution says. This guide walks through the filing as the CRO describes it on its own pages (checked October 2026). It is general information, not legal or immigration advice; whether your immigration permission lets you work in the company is a separate question to check with the Department of Justice or an adviser.

Choose the company type first

Most small businesses use a private company limited by shares (LTD). The CRO explains that an LTD has a one-document constitution, the articles of association, and no memorandum, because it has no stated objects. Every other type (DAC, CLG, PLC, unlimited) uses a memorandum and articles. A private company may have up to 149 members, and one person can form it on their own.

LTD
Private company limited by shares; at least one director, and if there is only one director a separate person must be secretary.
DAC
Designated activity company; has stated objects and at least two directors.
CLG
Company limited by guarantee, often used by charities and community groups; at least two directors.

Those minimum board sizes come from the CRO's page on company officers. Note also that a company cannot be a director of another company, so a Nigerian parent company cannot sit on the board itself; a named individual must.

What goes into Form A1

Form A1 is the application. According to the CRO it covers the company name, the registered office, the secretary and directors (with their consent to act), the subscribers and their shares, and a declaration that the Companies Act requirements have been met. You also classify the main activity with a NACE code.

  • Name: you can reserve it first on CORE for €25. The reservation lasts 28 days and the €25 is deducted from the incorporation fee if you file within that period.
  • Registered office: an address in Ireland where official post can be served.
  • Directors and secretary: full details and signed consent. Directors must be over 18.
  • EEA-resident director: at least one director must live in the European Economic Area, unless the company has a €25,000 section 137 bond or a section 140 certificate (see our guide on the EEA-resident director rule).
  • Shares and subscribers: who takes how many shares at incorporation.

If a director or beneficial owner has no Irish PPS number, the CRO issues an Identified Person Number (IPN) after a verification form (VIF) is completed on CORE. The IPN is reserved for non-resident directors and beneficial owners; Irish citizens resident in Ireland must use a PPSN instead.

Filing on CORE, step by step

  1. Register for a free CORE account at core.cro.ie.
  2. Reserve the name (optional, €25).
  3. Prepare the constitution. Under Fé Phráinn, the promoter's constitution text is approved by the CRO in advance and cannot be changed without its approval; otherwise you upload your own.
  4. Complete Form A1, add the NACE code and director consents, and attach any section 137 bond certified copy.
  5. Pay the fee and submit. The CRO processes documents in date order and returns any with errors; a returned document is treated by its resubmission date.
  6. Receive the certificate of incorporation.

After incorporation

Registering is the start, not the end. You will need to record the company's beneficial owners with the Register of Beneficial Ownership (RBO filing explained), register for tax with Revenue, and diarise the first annual return. The CRO says an annual return must be filed within 56 days of the date it is made up to, and late filing costs €100 plus €3 a day (our guide to the B1 deadline and penalty has the detail). Director changes go on Form B10 within 14 days.

Common mistakes

  • Naming a company (for example a Nigerian Ltd) as a director, which the CRO does not allow.
  • Forgetting the EEA-resident director requirement and having the A1 delayed.
  • Using a home address abroad as the registered office; it must be in Ireland.

Where Pryme fits

Once the company exists, a Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, which helps if the Irish company pays or is paid by Nigerian partners (multicurrency business account). Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners. The Compliance agent can prepare reminders for filing dates; a person approves before anything is sent.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian register a company in Ireland?

Yes. The CRO does not set a nationality rule. The board must include an EEA-resident director, or the company needs a €25,000 section 137 bond or a section 140 certificate.

How much does it cost to register a company with the CRO?

The CRO fee page lists Form A1 at €50 electronically. Name reservation on CORE is €25 and is deducted from the incorporation fee if you file within 28 days.

How long does CRO registration take?

The CRO aims to issue the certificate within five working days under Fé Phráinn and ten working days for an ordinary online A1, once documents are correct.

Do I need a PPS number to be an Irish company director?

Not if you live abroad. A non-resident director without a PPSN can get an Identified Person Number from the CRO after completing a VIF on CORE.
