Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Microfinance Ireland loans for a new small business

Who qualifies for a Microfinance Ireland small business loan, how to apply, the rate its site states, and a worked example of the total cost.

The short answer

Microfinance Ireland lends €2,000 to €50,000 at an interest rate of 6.5% (as stated on its site in October 2026) to businesses based in the Republic of Ireland with fewer than 10 employees and turnover under €2 million that are struggling to get finance elsewhere. You register your interest on its website and it emails the application documents.

What Microfinance Ireland offers

Microfinance Ireland (MFI) lends to small businesses that are struggling to get finance elsewhere. Its home page (last modified 16 October 2026) states: "We provide business loans of €2,000 to €50,000 with an interest rate of 6.5%." It supports people starting, expanding or in financial difficulty with their business. The page also mentions an EU guarantee behind MFI's lending, which is not a guarantee for the borrower.

Who qualifies

Criterion (MFI home page)What it means for you
Based in the Republic of IrelandThe business operates here; a business run from Nigeria does not qualify
Fewer than 10 employeesCounts staff, not just directors
Turnover under €2 millionAlmost every start-up meets this
Struggling to get finance elsewhereBe ready to show what a bank said

MFI's fuller criteria sit on its eligibility page, which is the place to confirm whether you need a written bank refusal, how sole traders and start-ups are treated, and what security it asks for. The home page does not state term lengths or security.

Immigration: the loan is for a business you are allowed to run. Irish Immigration Service Delivery says Stamp 4 holders can establish and operate a business, while Stamp 1G graduates and Stamp 2 students cannot. See running a business on Stamp 1G or Stamp 2.

How to apply

  1. Register your interest on MFI's website.
  2. MFI emails you the application documents.
  3. Prepare a business plan with cash-flow projections and evidence of what you have tried with other lenders.
  4. Your Local Enterprise Office is listed as an MFI partner; ask it about help with the plan. MFI's home page does not say whether applying through the LEO changes the terms.

Worked example: what a loan costs

Example only. MFI's page gives the rate as 6.5% but does not say whether it is an annual percentage rate or how interest is charged. The figures below assume 6.5% a year charged monthly on the falling balance, repaid in equal monthly instalments. Your loan offer will show the actual terms.

LoanTermMonthly repaymentTotal repaidTotal interest
€10,00024 months€445.46€10,691.10€691.10
€20,00036 months€612.98€22,067.28€2,067.28

Check the arithmetic against your plan: a €20,000 loan over three years needs about €613 of spare cash every month after all other costs. If your projections show that only in a good month, borrow less or for longer.

What the money is often used for

  • Fit-out and equipment for a shop, salon or kitchen; see opening an African grocery shop.
  • Opening stock.
  • A van or tools for a trade.
  • Working capital while early invoices are unpaid.

How it compares with other routes

RouteTypical fitWhat to check

Local Enterprise Office supportsStart-ups and small firms in its areaSee LEO grants in Dublin
Credit union business lendingMembers of that credit unionEach credit union's own terms
Family or own savingsAny sizeRecords of where the money came from

Why applications stall

  • Cash-flow projections that do not show how the monthly repayment will be met.
  • Personal and business money mixed in one account, so trading income cannot be seen.
  • No evidence of the owner's own contribution.
  • Unregistered business, or a business name not yet registered with the CRO.
  • Missing documents when MFI asks follow-up questions.

Before you apply

  • Get your Revenue registration and, if relevant, CRO business name or company in place.
  • Keep bank statements clean and business money separate from personal money.
  • Gather proof of any Nigerian income or savings you will put in, with records of how it moved to Ireland.
  • Read the loan offer in full, including fees and what happens if you miss a payment, before you accept.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not lend in Ireland. A Pryme Business Account can hold euro alongside naira, and Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai lets you generate verifiable statements that a lender can check are genuine and unaltered; see receipts and statements. For founders with larger ambitions, compare Enterprise Ireland HPSU funding.

Questions people ask
