Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Kuda failed transfer not reversed: how to dispute

Debited by Kuda but the transfer failed? Tell a pending transfer from a failed one, gather evidence, raise it in chat, and escalate if it is not reversed.

The short answer

If Kuda debited you for a transfer that failed, first check whether it is only pending, which Kuda says usually clears once a BVN or tier issue is fixed. If it truly failed and was not reversed, report it in Kuda's in-app chat with the date, amount, recipient and reference; if Kuda does not resolve it, escalate to the CBN's consumer protection route with Kuda's reference.

Failed, pending or delivered: know which you have

Three situations look alike from your side but need different steps:

Pending
Kuda is holding the transfer. Its help page says this happens when the recipient's Kuda account is not upgraded and the amount is over its limit, or when Kuda cannot confirm a BVN on the sending account.
Failed but reversed
The money left your balance briefly and came back. Check your history for a matching credit.
Failed and not reversed
Your balance was debited, the recipient did not receive it, and no reversal has appeared. This is the case to dispute.
Delivered but not seen
The recipient's bank received it but has not credited them. The receiving bank must trace it.

For pending transfers, fixing the cause is quicker than a dispute: confirm your BVN in the app and, for amounts above ₦50,000, add a NIN slip or utility bill, as Kuda's page advises. See how long Kuda pending transactions take.

Evidence to gather first

  • The transaction reference or session ID from the Kuda receipt.
  • Date, time and exact amount.
  • Recipient's name, account number and bank.
  • A screenshot of the debit in your history and of any error message.
  • Confirmation from the recipient, ideally a screenshot of their history, that nothing arrived.
  • Whether Kuda's status page showed an outage at the time (status.kuda.com).

Our guide to evidence for payment disputes explains why each item helps.

Steps to dispute with Kuda

  1. Do not resend the transfer until you know the first one failed; you may be debited twice.
  2. Open in-app chat (More, then Chat With Us) and write: "I was debited for a failed transfer and it has not been reversed", then give the reference, date, amount and recipient.
  3. Attach your screenshots.
  4. Ask for a ticket number and the time Kuda expects to resolve it.
  5. If you cannot sign in, call 0700 022 555 832.
  6. Follow up in the same chat thread; do not open new chats for the same issue.

How long a reversal should take

Kuda's pending-transfers article (July 2024) does not give a reversal timeline, and we found no Kuda page that does. The CBN sets rules for how quickly banks must resolve failed electronic transactions, and our explainer on bank transfer reversal timelines covers them with sources. Use those as your yardstick when asking Kuda for an update, and note in writing the date you first reported the problem.

A worked example (illustration only)

You send ₦35,000 to a friend at another bank. Kuda shows the debit of ₦35,000 and, if the transfer was beyond your free allowance, a ₦10 fee plus 7.5% VAT, so ₦10.75, per Kuda's FAQ. Your friend receives nothing. If the transfer is reversed, check that both the ₦35,000 and the ₦10.75 fee come back; a total of ₦35,010.75 should be credited. If only the principal returns, ask Kuda about the fee in the same ticket.

If Kuda does not resolve it

  1. Ask Kuda for a written final answer on the ticket.
  2. Escalate to the CBN as the regulator of Kuda's microfinance bank; follow how to complain about a bank or fintech, and include Kuda's ticket number, your evidence and the dates.
  3. The FCCPC also accepts consumer complaints at complaints.fccpc.gov.ng or contact@fccpc.gov.ng.

This is information about the routes available, not legal advice.

Failed POS and card payments

Not every failed debit is a transfer. If a POS terminal or website failed but your Kuda balance dropped, the dispute follows the same idea with different evidence:

  • Keep the POS slip marked declined or failed, or a screenshot of the website error.
  • Note the merchant's name, location and the terminal or order number.
  • Check whether the debit later disappears; card holds sometimes drop off without a formal reversal.
  • If it does not, report it in chat as a failed card transaction with the slip attached.

For cardless POS withdrawals using C'Gate, include the agent's details and the POS provider, since Kuda lists OPay, Paycenter, Firstmonie and Zenith Bank terminals for that route. Our guide to chargebacks and reversals explains how card disputes move between banks.

Avoiding repeat failures

Many failed transfers come from sending during an outage, sending above a tier limit, or mistyped details. Check status.kuda.com before large transfers, upgrade your account before you need high limits, and always confirm the name check before you press send.

Where Pryme fits

When you need to prove what was paid or received, any Pryme customer can generate a verifiable receipt through VerifyDoc.ai, which the other party can check is genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

How long does Kuda take to reverse failed transaction?

Kuda does not publish a timeline. Report it in chat with the reference, and use the CBN timelines in our reversal guide as the yardstick.

Kuda debited me but the receiver did not get it, what do I do?

Check it is not just pending, then report it in Kuda's in-app chat with the reference, date, amount and recipient details and screenshots.

Why is my Kuda transfer pending?

Kuda says pending transfers happen when the recipient's account is not upgraded or a BVN cannot be confirmed.

How do I report Kuda for failed transfer?

Complain to Kuda first, then escalate to the CBN's consumer protection route or the FCCPC with Kuda's reference and your evidence.
