Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Verifiable receipts

Settling a payment dispute in Nigeria: evidence to gather

The records that settle a payment dispute in Nigeria, the order to escalate in, and where to complain about a business, bank or fintech.

The short answer

Most payment disputes in Nigeria are settled by clear evidence: a receipt showing amount, recipient, date and reference, the agreement or chat showing what the payment was for, and a timeline. Raise it with the other party first, then with your bank or provider, and escalate to the FCCPC for consumer issues or the CBN process for bank and fintech complaints.

The evidence that settles most disputes

Whether the dispute is with a landlord, a vendor, a contractor or a bank, the same four kinds of evidence decide it:

EvidenceWhat it proves
Transaction receiptThat money moved, how much, to whom and when
Agreement, invoice or chatWhat the payment was for and what was promised
Delivery or service recordWhat was or was not received
Timeline of contactThat you raised the problem and what each side said

Collect these before you complain. A clear, dated file makes every later step faster. Whoever reviews the dispute, whether a customer service officer, a regulator's case handler or a judge, starts with the same question: what happened, and what proves it? Your file should answer that in a few minutes of reading.

Start gathering early. Bank apps may only show a limited history, chats get deleted, and memories of who said what fade quickly.

Making a good evidence file

  1. Save the original receipt, not just a screenshot. Download it from your bank or app.
  2. Export the relevant chat or email thread, with dates visible.
  3. Write a one-page timeline: what you agreed, what you paid, what happened, who you contacted and when.
  4. Keep copies of photos of goods received, delivery notes or inspection reports.
  5. Note the transaction reference and the other party's account name exactly.
  6. Keep everything in one folder, named by date, so you can send the whole file in a single message.

Who to go to, and in what order

1. The other party

Send a short, polite written message with your evidence and what you want: a refund, delivery or correction, and a reasonable deadline. Many disputes end here. Keep the tone factual; a message you would be comfortable showing a regulator later is the right message to send now.

2. Your bank or payment provider

If the problem is with the transfer itself, such as a failed transfer, a debit without value, or a suspected fraud, contact your bank or provider at once. Use its own complaints channel first and note the complaint reference; regulators usually ask whether you have already done so.

3. The regulator

  • Businesses selling goods and services: the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission accepts complaints online through its complaints portal, which lets you track them, or by phone and email.
  • Banks and other CBN-regulated institutions: if your institution does not resolve your complaint, escalate to the CBN (see how to complain about a bank or fintech).
  • Misuse of your personal data: the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

4. Mediation or court

For larger amounts or where the other party will not engage, mediation or court may be needed. A lawyer can advise on the right route; your evidence file is what they will ask for first.

Worked example: a caution deposit not returned

Example figures only. Chidi paid a ₦500,000 caution deposit when he moved into a flat. On leaving, the landlord refuses to return it, saying Chidi never paid one.

EvidenceWhat Chidi has
Transaction receiptTransfer of ₦500,000 to the landlord, with reference
AgreementTenancy agreement clause on refundable caution
Condition recordPhotos and an inspection note signed on exit
TimelineThree written requests over four weeks

Chidi sends the file to the landlord with a 14-day deadline. Faced with the receipt and the signed clause, the landlord returns the deposit less a small, agreed repair cost. Without the receipt, it would have been his word against the landlord's. See also renting and receipts.

Common mistakes that weaken a claim

  • Waiting weeks before raising the problem, especially where fraud is suspected.
  • Arguing by phone only, leaving no written record of what was said.
  • Relying on screenshots instead of the original receipt from your bank or app.
  • Asking for more than you are owed, which makes a reasonable settlement harder.
  • Sharing your evidence publicly on social media before trying formal routes; it can harden the other side's position and create legal risk for you.

A calm, documented approach is usually faster. The aim is to make it easy for the other party, or whoever reviews the dispute, to see what happened and agree.

Where Pryme fits

Any Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt or statement for a transaction in the app. Pryme partners with VerifyDoc.ai, so anyone you share a verifiable receipt with, including a seller, a landlord, a mediator or a lawyer, can check that it is genuine and unaltered. It does not decide the dispute, but it removes one common argument: whether the payment record has been changed. For disputes with Pryme itself, use Pryme support first. Business customers can see how the Customer Support agent records conversations, and how reversals and chargebacks work.

Questions people ask

How do I report a business that refused to refund me in Nigeria?

Raise it in writing first, then complain to the FCCPC through its online portal with your receipts and messages.

Where do I report a bank that did not resolve my complaint?

Escalate to the CBN through its consumer protection process after your bank's own complaint process.

Is a WhatsApp chat evidence in a dispute?

Chats can help show what was agreed. Export them with dates and keep them with your receipts.

What evidence do I need for a refund claim?

The payment receipt, the agreement or order, any delivery record, and a timeline of your contact with the business.
