Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Emirates NBD business account for a free zone company

Emirates NBD is licensed by the UAE Central Bank. What a free zone company with Nigerian owners should prepare, ask and expect before applying.

The short answer

Emirates NBD Bank (P.J.S.C.), licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE, offers business accounts that free zone companies apply for, but its business account page did not load when we checked in October 2026, so we cannot quote its current eligibility list, minimum balance or fees. Ask the bank for its written list for your account type; a Nigeria-linked free zone company should expect to provide the licence and memorandum, owners' passports and Emirates IDs, proof of presence in the zone, and evidence of the source of funds and Nigerian contracts.

Emirates NBD is one of the banks Nigerian founders in Dubai most often try first. We tried to read its business account page for this article and got an error page instead, so rather than repeat figures from elsewhere that may be out of date, this page tells you exactly what to ask the bank and what to prepare. The one fact we could confirm from the bank's own site is its regulatory status: the page footer states that Emirates NBD Bank (P.J.S.C.) is licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE.

What to ask Emirates NBD before applying

  1. Which business account types are open to a free zone company of your size, and whether your free zone is accepted.
  2. The minimum average balance for each account and the charge if you fall below it.
  3. Monthly fees, transfer charges and charges for international transfers, including to Nigeria.
  4. Whether all shareholders and signatories must be UAE residents, or must attend in person.
  5. The full document list for your structure, especially if a Nigerian company is a shareholder.
  6. Typical review time and whether you will have a named relationship manager.

Get the answers in writing or note the date and the staff member's name. Bank criteria change, and a quote from a corporate service provider may describe last year's rules.

What a Nigeria-linked free zone company should prepare

Company

  • Trade licence, certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles, share register.
  • Board resolution opening the account and naming signatories.
  • Establishment card and workspace agreement in the zone.

People

  • Passports, UAE visas and Emirates IDs for owners and signatories.
  • Proof of address and short profiles showing relevant experience.

Nigeria link

  • Signed contracts or letters of intent with Nigerian customers or suppliers, sample invoices and expected volumes.
  • Source of funds for the starting capital, with statements and the documents behind each source.
  • For a Nigerian corporate shareholder: CAC documents, PSC disclosure and a board resolution, attested through Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE Embassy and UAE MOFA. The MOFA FAQ gives AED 2,000 per commercial document.

Our full document pack for Nigeria-linked companies explains why each item matters.

Why free zone companies get extra questions

  • Substance: a flexi-desk company with no staff in the UAE is harder for a bank to understand. Showing a real office, a resident manager and real customers helps.
  • Activity versus payments: if the licence says consultancy but the expected payments look like trading, expect questions. Align the licence activity with what you do; see choosing licence activities.
  • High-risk corridors: payments to and from Nigeria are routine, but banks screen them more closely. Clear counterparties and documents make the difference.

Before the meeting: a one-page summary

Relationship managers pass your file to a compliance team that has never met you. A one-page summary at the front of the pack helps them. Cover:

Who owns the company
Each individual, nationality, residence and percentage, including through any Nigerian company.
What it does
In two sentences, in the same words as the licence activity.
Who pays it
Main customers by country, with Nigerian customers named.
Who it pays
Main suppliers and staff, by country.
Expected volumes
Monthly incoming and outgoing amounts and currencies for the first year.
Starting capital
Amount and source, with the document reference in the pack.

Keep it factual and consistent with every other document. A summary that overstates expected volumes can cause problems later, when real activity does not match what you declared.

After the account opens

Banks keep reviewing. If your activity changes, for example a new Nigerian supplier, a new shareholder or larger payments, tell the bank before the transactions start, and keep invoices and contracts to hand for any payment the bank queries. Unexplained changes are a common reason for accounts being restricted later.

If the application is declined

Ask whether the decision is final or whether more documents would help, and keep a record of what was requested. Before applying elsewhere, fix whatever was weak: substance, source of funds, or documents. Our guide to why UAE banks reject Nigerian founders covers next steps, and Wio Business is another option founders compare.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country and holds naira, dollars, pounds and euros with local account details for each, so the company can invoice and get paid while a UAE bank account is being reviewed. It does not replace a UAE bank account where your free zone or customers require one. See business multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Can a free zone company open an Emirates NBD business account?

Free zone companies do apply to Emirates NBD. Ask the bank whether your zone and account type are accepted, since its criteria can change.

What is the minimum balance for an Emirates NBD business account?

We could not confirm it from the bank's site in October 2026. Ask Emirates NBD for the current figure for your account type.

Is Emirates NBD regulated?

Yes. Its website states Emirates NBD Bank (P.J.S.C.) is licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE.

Do Nigerian shareholders need to be UAE residents to open the account?

Ask the bank. Requirements for non-resident shareholders and signatories vary by account type.
