Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Setting up a Dubai free zone company as a Nigerian

How a Nigerian sets up a UAE free zone company: choosing a zone, the documents, the costs zones publish, and the extra checks that can slow you down.

The short answer

A Nigerian passport holder can own 100% of a UAE free zone company and, at zones such as Meydan and RAKEZ, apply online without visiting: you choose a zone and activity, submit a passport copy and KYC, pay the licence fee, then apply for an establishment card and residence visa. The extra checks are less about the licence than about nationality lists for fast-track products, attestation of Nigerian corporate documents and bank due diligence.

For many Nigerians already working in Dubai, or running a business in Lagos with Gulf suppliers, a free zone company is the obvious next step. The process is mostly online and fast. What slows Nigerian founders down is rarely the licence itself; it is the paperwork that sits around it.

What a free zone company gives you

A free zone company is a UAE legal entity licensed by the free zone authority, usually as a limited liability company. Meydan Free Zone describes its licence as an LLC with 100% ownership; RAKEZ offers a Free Zone FZ-LLC for individual shareholders. With it come a trade licence for named activities, the right to apply for residence visas for owners and staff (subject to the zone's visa allocation), and a basis for a UAE corporate bank account.

If you mainly want to trade with UAE mainland customers or need a shop front, compare with a mainland LLC and mainland or free zone for Nigeria trade.

What zones publish, as at October 2026

ZoneEntry price statedVisaSpeed stated
Meydan Free Zone (Dubai)Standard digital licence from AED 12,500, incl. flexi-desk and up to 3 activity groupsInvestor visa from AED 4,000; first investor visa about AED 7,850 all-inStandard within a day; Fawri instant from AED 15,000 in under 60 minutes
RAKEZ (Ras Al Khaimah)Basic AED 6,000 (1 shareholder, 1 activity, co-working); second tier AED 12,000Basic has no visa; the all-inclusive option includes 1 residence visaIssued after submission and payment
IFZA (Dubai)Not confirmed: IFZA's site did not load for usNot confirmedNot confirmed

These are the zones' own marketing figures, quoted from their pages in October 2026, and they exclude many add-ons. Ask for a full written quote covering the licence, establishment card, each visa, medical and Emirates ID, and the renewal price.

Documents a Nigerian applicant needs

  • Colour copy of your Nigerian passport (RAKEZ also lists visa copy or entry stamp, and Emirates ID if resident).
  • A no-objection certificate from your current UAE employer or sponsor if you are a UAE resident, per RAKEZ's checklist.
  • An ultimate beneficial owner (UBO) declaration with passport copy.
  • A business plan for some activities.
  • If a Nigerian company is the shareholder: its certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles, certificate of good standing or registry extract, certificate of incumbency and a board resolution.

The extra checks Nigerians should expect

Nationality lists on fast-track products

Meydan's FAQ says its Fawri instant licence is available only to applicants from "a predefined list of eligible nationalities" and is subject to compliance checks. Ask whether Nigeria is on the list before choosing Fawri; if not, the standard route still applies.

Attestation of Nigerian documents

Personal Nigerian documents rarely matter for the licence itself, but corporate documents do if a Nigerian company is a shareholder. The UAE MOFA FAQ says documents issued outside the UAE must be attested by the issuing country's foreign ministry, then by the UAE embassy or consulate there, then again in the UAE. For a CAC certificate that means Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the UAE embassy in Abuja, then UAE MOFA. See attesting company documents for the reverse direction.

Bank due diligence

The licence is the easy part; the bank account is where most Nigerian-owned companies wait. Meydan's FAQ notes that general trading is classed as high-risk and can complicate corporate banking when combined with unrelated activities. Choose activities that describe what you actually do, and prepare evidence of where your money comes from. See documents UAE banks want from a Nigeria-linked company.

Steps in order

  1. Choose the zone and activities, and check each activity is on the zone's list.
  2. Choose the shareholding (individual or Nigerian company) and the manager.
  3. Submit the application, passport copies, UBO declaration and any NOC; pay the licence fee.
  4. Receive the licence, then apply for the establishment card.
  5. Apply for your residence visa, medical and Emirates ID.
  6. Open the bank account and register for UAE corporate tax; see corporate tax registration for free zone companies.

Sponsoring your family

Once you hold a residence visa through your company, u.ae (updated 28 September 2026) says an expatriate resident sponsoring family needs a minimum salary of AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation. As a company owner, decide what salary your company will pay you before you apply.

Renewal and keeping the company in good standing

A licence is renewed on the zone's cycle: RAKEZ's page says its licence is valid for one year and must be renewed before expiry to avoid penalties, while Meydan's FAQ says its licences can be issued for up to ten years. Diary the renewal, the visa expiry dates and the UBO update duty (Meydan's FAQ says changes are updated within 15 days). See renewing a UAE trade licence.

Where Pryme fits

A UAE company trading with Nigeria often needs naira and dollar accounts at home as well. A Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country with NGN, USD, GBP and EUR details, and invoicing lets you bill Nigerian customers in the currency they pay in.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian own 100% of a Dubai free zone company?

Yes. Free zone companies such as Meydan's LLC are 100% owned by their shareholders, including Nigerians.

Do I need to visit Dubai to set up a free zone company?

Meydan and RAKEZ both say setup can be completed online. You will need to be in the UAE for visa medicals and Emirates ID.

What is the cheapest free zone in the UAE for Nigerians?

We do not rank zones. RAKEZ's own page lists a Basic package at AED 6,000 without a visa; compare full quotes including visas and renewal.

Will a UAE bank open an account for a Nigerian-owned free zone company?

Banks decide case by case. Clear activities and evidence of source of funds help.
