Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Documents UAE banks want from a Nigeria-linked company

UAE banks want the licence and MOA, owners' IDs, proof of substance and, for Nigeria links, contracts, invoices and source of funds. The full pack.

The short answer

A UAE bank opening an account for a company with Nigerian owners, customers or suppliers will want the corporate documents (trade licence, memorandum, share register), identity documents for every owner and signatory, proof the company operates from the UAE, and, because of the Nigeria link, evidence of where the money comes from: signed contracts and invoices with Nigerian parties, bank statements showing the funds' history, and attested documents for any Nigerian corporate shareholder. Each bank sets its own list; arriving with a complete, consistent pack is what shortens the review.

Nigerian founders in the UAE often say banks reject them for being Nigerian. What usually happens is narrower: the bank's compliance team cannot follow the money or the ownership with the documents in front of it, and closing the file is easier than asking more questions. A company that answers the questions before they are asked has a better chance. This page lists what to prepare and why each item matters.

1. Corporate documents

  • Trade licence, current, with the activities you will actually carry on.
  • Certificate of incorporation or registration.
  • Memorandum and articles of association, and any amendments.
  • Share register and a simple ownership chart down to the individuals.
  • Board or shareholder resolution to open the account and naming the signatories.
  • Establishment card and lease or workspace agreement, as proof of presence; see the establishment card.

2. People: owners and signatories

  • Passports for every shareholder, beneficial owner and signatory, with UAE visa and Emirates ID for residents.
  • Proof of residential address.
  • CVs or profiles showing the owners' experience in the business, which helps the bank see why this company makes sense for them.
  • For anyone holding public office or close to someone who does, a frank disclosure; banks screen for this and missing it looks worse than declaring it.

3. Nigerian shareholders and parent companies

If a Nigerian company owns the UAE company, the bank needs to see through it to the individuals. Nigeria's own rules help here: CAC's 2022 persons with significant control regulations, summarised by PwC, define a PSC as anyone holding 5% or more of shares or voting rights, directly or indirectly, or with significant influence or control, and the information is on CAC's public register. Bring:

  • CAC certificate of incorporation, status report and MEMART for the Nigerian company.
  • Its PSC disclosure showing the individuals behind it.
  • A board resolution approving the UAE investment.
  • Attestation: the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs FAQ says documents issued outside the UAE are attested by the home foreign ministry, then the UAE embassy, then UAE MOFA (AED 2,000 per commercial document). The Embassy of Nigeria in Abu Dhabi notes non-academic documents skip the Federal Ministry of Education stage.

4. Source of funds and source of wealth

This is where Nigeria-linked files most often stall. The bank wants to know where the company's starting capital came from and where its future income will come from.

  • Starting capital: statements showing the money's history, such as salary savings, sale of property, dividends from a Nigerian company, or a loan, with the supporting documents (sale agreement, dividend resolution, loan agreement).
  • Money that left Nigeria: if funds came from a Nigerian bank account, the outward transfer record from the Nigerian bank. Under the CBN's 2026 FX Manual, summarised by WTS Blackwoodstone in July 2026, authorised dealers apply documentary requirements to FX transactions; your Nigerian bank's record of the transfer is the evidence a UAE bank looks for.
  • Your own wealth: a short written summary of your career and assets, consistent with the statements.

5. The business with Nigeria

  • Signed contracts with Nigerian customers or suppliers, or letters of intent for a new company.
  • Sample invoices and the expected monthly volume, currencies and countries of payment.
  • A short business plan naming your main counterparties and explaining why the UAE company sits where it does.
  • Licences in Nigeria for any regulated activity on the Nigerian side, and the Nigerian company's NIPC registration if it has foreign shareholders; see NIPC registration.
  • Website and online presence that matches what the documents say.

Make the pack consistent

  1. Names spelled the same on passports, licence, MOA and CAC records.
  2. Activity on the licence matches the contracts and the business plan.
  3. Expected volumes match the size of the contracts.
  4. Every company in the chart has its documents, and every individual over the threshold has ID.
  5. Nothing in the pack is unattested if it was issued in Nigeria.

For why applications are declined and what to do next, see why UAE banks reject Nigerian founders; for one bank's list, Emirates NBD for a free zone company.

Where Pryme fits

Clear records of past payments make the source-of-funds section easier. A Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country and holds naira, dollars, pounds and euros; statements can be issued as verifiable statements through VerifyDoc.ai, which anyone can check are genuine and unaltered. The Compliance agent can help assemble a KYC pack for a person to review.

Questions people ask

Why do UAE banks ask Nigerian founders for so many documents?

Banks must understand ownership and the source of funds. Cross-border flows with Nigeria mean more questions; a complete pack answers them.

Do I need to attest my Nigerian company's CAC documents for a UAE bank?

If a Nigerian company is a shareholder, its documents are foreign documents in the UAE and generally need the MFA, UAE Embassy and MOFA attestation chain.

What counts as source of funds?

Evidence of where the money came from: statements plus the document behind each source, such as a sale agreement, dividend resolution or salary record.

Will contracts with Nigerian customers help my application?

Yes. Signed contracts and invoices show the bank real business and expected volumes.
