Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Cost of hiring a Nigerian worker on a UAE work visa

Work permit, entry permit, medical, Emirates ID and residence: the fee items, who sets each one, and why UAE law puts them on the employer.

The short answer

Hiring a Nigerian from abroad onto a UAE work visa involves a MOHRE work permit, an entry permit, a medical fitness test, an Emirates ID and the residence visa stamping, each with its own government fee set by MOHRE, ICP or the emirate's residency office. Under Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021 the employer pays these costs and cannot recover them from the worker. Fees can differ by emirate and by mainland or free zone, so take them from MOHRE's, ICP's or GDRFA's own channels on the day.

UAE founders hiring from Nigeria often ask for one number. There is no single published figure, because the total depends on the company's MOHRE classification, the emirate, whether the company sits on the mainland or in a free zone, and whether you use express services. What can be fixed is the list of items, who sets each one, and who must pay. This guide gives you that list so you can budget from real quotes rather than guesses.

Gulf News, explaining Article 6(4) of Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021 on employment relations, reports that employers are prohibited from charging workers recruitment or employment costs, directly or indirectly. The costs named include hiring, travel, visa issuance, medical tests and the residency permit, and the employer cannot recover them from the employee. Two exceptions are noted: a worker who resigns without notice may owe payment in lieu of notice, and where a worker resigns during probation to join another UAE employer, the new employer compensates the original one.

We could not confirm MOHRE's fee schedule by establishment category from its own site in October 2026, so this article gives no figures for it. Your PRO or typing centre should give you an itemised quote that separates government fees from its own service charges; ask for both.

Costs on the Nigerian side

Some costs fall in Nigeria before the worker travels, and you may decide to cover them too:

  • A Nigerian passport valid long enough for the visa process. Renewal is handled by the Nigeria Immigration Service in Nigeria or at a mission abroad.
  • Attested certificates for skilled roles. Degrees go through the Federal Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the UAE Embassy in Abuja and then UAE MOFA, which lists AED 150 per personal document.
  • A police character certificate where the role or licensing body asks for one.
  • The flight. Under the rule above, travel is one of the costs an employer may not pass to the worker.

For the certificate chain in detail see attesting Nigerian certificates for the UAE.

Protect the candidate and yourself

Fake UAE job offers are a recurring problem in Nigeria. Gulf News reported MoHRE's warning that a genuine offer comes with an official MoHRE work entry permit, that the offer number can be checked through MoHRE's application status inquiry, and that the company should appear in the National Economic Register. Send your candidate the offer through official channels and tell them how to verify it. Working on a visit or tourist visa, MoHRE warns, can expose people to fines and legal action, so do not ask anyone to start before the permit is issued.

A budgeting worksheet

Example only, with no official figures. Before hiring, Kemi asks her Dubai PRO for an itemised quote covering the work permit, entry permit, medical, Emirates ID, residence stamping and the PRO's service fee, each on its own line. She adds the flight from Lagos, the candidate's first month of housing if she is providing it, and certificate attestation. She marks every line paid by the company, files the receipts, and builds the total into the role's first-year cost alongside salary and end-of-service gratuity.

What to check first

  • Your free zone visa quota or MOHRE establishment status, which can affect cost and how many visas you can issue.
  • An itemised quote that separates government fees from service charges.
  • Whether the role needs attested qualifications or a licence from a sector regulator.
  • That the offer letter and permit go through official channels the candidate can verify.
  • That no agent in Nigeria is charging the candidate for any of the above.

Free zone founders should also read free zone visa quotas when hiring from Nigeria; if the person will work from Lagos instead, see employer of record in Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

If you also pay staff or contractors in Nigeria, a Pryme Business Account holds NGN alongside USD, GBP and EUR, and payroll runs naira salaries with a person approving each run. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Who pays for a UAE work visa, the employer or the worker?

The employer. Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021, Article 6(4), as reported by Gulf News, bars employers from charging workers recruitment and employment costs including visa, medical tests and residency.

How much is a UAE work permit for a Nigerian?

There is no nationality-specific fee. The cost depends on your company's classification, emirate and zone; take the current figure from MOHRE, your free zone or an itemised PRO quote.

Can a Nigerian start work on a visit visa while the work visa is processed?

MoHRE has warned that working on a visit or tourist visa can expose people to fines and legal action. Wait for the work entry permit.

How can a Nigerian candidate check a UAE job offer is real?

Gulf News reported MoHRE's advice: verify the offer number through MoHRE's application status inquiry and check the company in the National Economic Register.
