Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Wio Business account: can a Nigerian-owned company open one?

Wio's business page lists plans and fees but no nationality rule. What is published, what is not, and how to prepare a Nigerian-owned application.

The short answer

Wio's public business page does not publish any rule excluding Nigerian-owned companies, but it also does not list eligible licence types, shareholder nationalities or documents, so no outside source can promise approval. What the page does show (checked October 2026) is that Wio Bank is licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE, that onboarding is digital with accounts 'up and running in 3 working days', and two plans: Essential at 99 a month and Grow at 249 a month.

Wio is a UAE digital bank and its business account is popular with freelancers and small free zone companies because the application is done on a phone. Nigerian founders want to know one thing before they try: will a Nigerian-owned company be accepted? This guide sets out exactly what Wio publishes, what it does not, and how to give your application the best chance.

What Wio's business page says

Regulator
"Wio Bank is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE."
Onboarding
"Create your account digitally in minutes"; "Get up and running in 3 working days."
Essential plan
Listed at 99 per month, "Best for freelancers & small businesses": free multicurrency account, 2 users, 10 free local transfers a month, international SWIFT transfers at 52.50 each.
Grow plan
Listed at 249 per month, "Best for medium & large businesses": 10 users, 3 salary payment files a month, unlimited free local transfers, up to 3% interest on Saving Spaces, SWIFT at 26.25 each.

The page we read did not show the currency beside those figures; check the current price and currency in the app before you commit. Plans and fees change, and the app or tariff sheet is the authority.

What Wio does not publish

The business page we opened says nothing on which licence types are accepted, whether mainland and every free zone are supported, whether shareholders must be UAE residents, or whether any nationality is restricted. It also gives no document list beyond "add your information and get verified". That means three things for a Nigerian-owned company:

  • No published rule bars you, but none guarantees acceptance.
  • The decision is a risk review like any bank's: activity, ownership, source of funds and expected transactions.
  • Anything you read on forums about 'Wio accepts' or 'Wio rejects' Nigerians is anecdote, not policy.

Preparing a Nigerian-owned application

  1. Make sure every owner and signatory has a valid passport, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID if you have them; ask Wio in-app whether non-resident shareholders can be onboarded.
  2. Keep your licence activities specific and matching what you will invoice.
  3. Prepare a one-page description of the business: what you sell, to whom, from which countries, and typical monthly volume.
  4. Have two or three real contracts or invoices ready to upload.
  5. Be ready to explain the source of your opening deposit, especially if it comes from Nigeria.
  6. If a Nigerian company owns shares in the UAE company, have its CAC documents and the UAE MOFA attestation route ready; MOFA attests foreign documents after the issuing country and the UAE mission there have attested them, at AED 2,000 for commercial documents.

Questions to ask Wio before you apply

Because the public page is silent on eligibility, use the in-app chat or support channel to get answers in writing before you upload anything. Keep the replies; they help if a later reviewer asks something different.

  • Is my licence type and issuing authority (mainland emirate or named free zone) supported?
  • Must every shareholder above a certain stake be onboarded, and can a shareholder living in Nigeria be verified remotely?
  • Can a company whose shareholder is a Nigerian company apply, and which documents are needed for it?
  • Which currencies can the account hold, and are incoming payments from Nigeria accepted?
  • What is the current plan price and currency, and are there charges for falling below any balance?

If the application is declined

Digital banks often decline without detail. Before applying elsewhere, look at the usual reasons set out in our guide on why UAE banks reject Nigerian founders: unclear activity, thin substance, high-risk sectors, unexplained funds and mismatched documents. Nigeria's removal from the FATF list of jurisdictions under increased monitoring in October 2025 is worth knowing, but a bank's own risk model decides.

Where Pryme fits

Many Nigerian-owned UAE companies also have Nigerian customers or suppliers. A Pryme Business Account, opened from the UAE, gives you naira account details alongside USD, GBP and EUR, so Nigerian clients pay locally and you convert with Swap when you decide, seeing the rate and fee first. Outside Nigeria these services are provided through regulated partners. See business multicurrency and how it works.

Questions people ask

Does Wio accept Nigerian business owners?

Wio's business page publishes no nationality rule either way. Applications go through Wio's own review; prepare a complete file and ask in-app if unsure.

How much is a Wio Business account?

The page lists Essential at 99 a month and Grow at 249 a month (currency not shown on the page we read, checked Oct 2026). Confirm in the app.

How long does Wio Business take to open?

Wio's page says "Get up and running in 3 working days."

Is Wio a regulated bank?

Yes. Wio states it is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE.
