Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Failed Stanbic IBTC transaction: refund and dispute steps

What to do when a Stanbic IBTC transfer, ATM or card payment fails but you are debited: who to contact, what to send and when to escalate to the CBN.

The short answer

If a Stanbic IBTC transaction failed but your account was debited, report it to the bank first through the contact centre (0201 2709 676 or 0201 4222 222) or its complaint form, with the date, amount and reference. If the bank has not resolved it after two weeks, the CBN's complaints page says you can escalate to its Consumer Protection Department with proof that you complained to the bank first.

Most failed debits are reversed without the customer doing anything, but not all. The difference between a refund in a day and a refund in weeks is often how quickly you report it and how complete your evidence is. This guide covers failed transfers, ATM withdrawals and card payments for Stanbic IBTC customers.

First, work out what kind of failure it is

What happenedWhat it usually meansFirst move
Transfer shows failed, money left your accountThe debit was not matched by a creditWait a short while for reversal, then report with the session ID
Transfer shows successful, recipient says nothing arrivedThe receiving bank may be holding itGive the recipient the session ID to chase their bank; report to Stanbic IBTC if not found
ATM did not dispense, account debitedDispense errorReport with ATM location, time and amount
Card or POS payment declined but debitedAuthorisation held or settled in errorReport with merchant name, time and the receipt
@ease wallet transaction failedWallet-side failureIn the app, @ease module: More, then user feedback

Steps to report it

  1. Screenshot the transaction details or keep the SMS or email alert. Note the date, time, amount and any session ID or reference.
  2. Call Stanbic IBTC on 0201 2709 676 or 0201 4222 222, or +234 700 909 9099 from abroad. Ask for a complaint reference number.
  3. Follow up in writing using the "Got a compliment or complaint?" form on the bank's Complaints and Enquiries page, quoting the reference.
  4. For an ATM error at another bank's machine, still report to Stanbic IBTC as the bank that issued your card; it raises the claim with the other bank.
  5. Keep every reference number and the date you reported. You will need them if you escalate.

How long a refund should take

The CBN sets timelines through circulars and guidelines that change over time. The points we could confirm in October 2026:

  • The CBN complaints page says to allow two weeks for a bank to resolve a complaint before escalating, citing its 2011 ATM help desk circular.
  • In October 2025 the CBN released draft ATM guidelines proposing that failed withdrawals on the bank's own ATMs be reversed instantly, or manually within 24 hours, and failures at other banks' ATMs within 48 hours, as reported by Nairametrics. That was a draft for comment; check the CBN website for the final version.
  • Stanbic IBTC's FAQ pages did not state its own refund timelines.

Our explainer on failed ATM and POS refund timelines tracks the wider rules.

What to put in your written complaint

A short, complete complaint gets resolved faster than a long one that leaves out the facts. Include:

  • Your full name, account number and phone number linked to the account.
  • The transaction type: transfer, ATM withdrawal, POS payment, web payment or wallet.
  • The exact date and time, the amount and the session ID or reference from the receipt.
  • For ATMs: the location and the bank that owns the machine. For card payments: the merchant name.
  • What happened in one or two sentences, and what you want: a refund of the amount plus any charge.
  • The reference number from your phone call, if you called first.

Escalating to the CBN

If two weeks pass without a resolution, or you are unhappy with the bank's answer, the CBN Consumer Protection Department accepts complaints. Its page asks for:

  • Your name, address, phone number and email.
  • The name of the bank.
  • Your account details, but never your PIN or password.
  • The date and history of the transaction and the amount claimed.
  • Supporting documents, and proof that you complained to the bank first.

Letters go to the Director, Consumer Protection Department, Central Business District, Abuja, and can be delivered at the CBN head office or any CBN branch. Our guide to complaining to the CBN includes a template.

Worked example

Example only. Tunde tries to send ₦45,000 by *909*1# on a Friday evening. The transfer shows failed but his balance drops by ₦45,000. On Saturday morning it has not returned. He calls the contact centre, gets a reference, and files the complaint form with a screenshot. If it is still unresolved two weeks after his report, he writes to the CBN with his reference, screenshot and the dates he complained. His claim is ₦45,000 plus any charge debited on the failed transfer.

Where Pryme fits

A clear, dated record makes any dispute easier. Pryme partners with VerifyDoc.ai so customers can generate a verifiable receipt or statement that anyone can check is genuine and unaltered. Our guide on evidence for payment disputes covers what else to keep.

Questions people ask

How long does Stanbic IBTC take to reverse a failed transfer?

Stanbic IBTC does not publish a timeline on its FAQ pages. Many reverse within hours; if not, report it and allow the two weeks the CBN complaints page gives before escalating.

What is the Stanbic IBTC customer care number for failed transactions?

The bank lists 0201 2709 676 and 0201 4222 222 locally and +234 700 909 9099 internationally on its help pages, as at October 2026.

ATM did not pay but Stanbic debited me, what do I do?

Report it to Stanbic IBTC with the ATM location, time and amount, even if the ATM belonged to another bank. Keep the reference number.

How do I report Stanbic IBTC to the CBN?

Write to the Director, Consumer Protection Department, CBN, Abuja, with your details, the transaction history, amount, documents and proof you complained to the bank first.
