Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Paying school fees abroad through Stanbic IBTC (Form A)

How the Form A route works for paying overseas tuition through Stanbic IBTC, the documents schools and banks usually ask for, and how long to allow.

The short answer

To pay overseas school fees through Stanbic IBTC, you apply at the bank with a Form A for the education payment, backed by the admission letter, the school's invoice with its bank details and your ID. Stanbic IBTC did not publish its Form A steps, rate or charge online when we checked in October 2026, so confirm the document list and the timing at your branch before the school's deadline.

Form A is the document Nigerian banks use to process foreign exchange for invisible payments, the category that covers things like tuition, medical bills and personal travel allowance. Paying a foreign school through your bank means the bank either sells you the foreign currency or sends foreign currency you already hold, and it needs a paper trail that shows the purpose. Our explainer Form A and Form M covers the background.

Two ways to fund the payment

RouteHow it worksWhat to watch
Buy FX with nairaThe bank sells you the currency at its rate on the day and remits it to the schoolAvailability, the rate on the day and the bank's documentation
Use foreign currency you holdYou instruct the bank to send from your domiciliary accountYou still need documents showing the purpose; correspondent bank charges may apply

If you already hold dollars or pounds, the second route avoids converting at the moment of payment. See opening a Stanbic IBTC domiciliary account.

Documents banks usually ask for

Stanbic IBTC did not list its Form A requirements on the pages we opened. Nigerian banks commonly ask for:

  • A completed Form A application, usually filled in at the branch or the bank's online trade portal.
  • The school's admission or offer letter in the student's name.
  • An invoice or fee statement on the school's letterhead showing the amount, the student's name and the school's bank account details (account name, number or IBAN, bank name, SWIFT or BIC, and any sort code or routing number).
  • The student's international passport data page, and sometimes the visa or a student status letter.
  • The payer's valid ID and BVN, and the parent's or sponsor's relationship to the student where they differ.
  • Funding: naira in the account to buy the currency, or the foreign currency in your domiciliary account.

Steps

  1. Call Stanbic IBTC on 0201 2709 676 or 0201 4222 222 and ask for the current Form A process for school fees, the documents list and whether you apply at a branch or online.
  2. Ask whether FX is available for tuition and how the rate is set. Rates change daily, so ask on the day.
  3. Gather the documents and make sure the student's name matches across the passport, admission letter and invoice.
  4. Submit the application and fund the account.
  5. Get the bank's transfer reference or MT103 confirmation and send it to the school's finance office.
  6. Check with the school that the full amount arrived; correspondent bank deductions can leave a shortfall.

Timing

Stanbic IBTC did not publish a turnaround. Processing depends on document checks, FX availability, the payment route and the school's bank. Start at least two to three weeks before the school's deadline, and earlier around September and January intakes when demand peaks. If the visa depends on proof of tuition paid, plan back from the visa appointment, not the school's term date.

Worked example: allowing for charges

Example only. A university asks for a £6,000 deposit. A correspondent bank in the chain deducts a £20 charge, so the school receives £5,980 and records a £20 shortfall. To avoid this, ask the bank whether it can send with all charges paid by you (often called "OUR"), or add a small margin agreed with the school.

Common reasons a tuition payment is delayed

  • The student's name is spelt differently on the passport, the admission letter and the invoice.
  • The invoice lacks the school's full bank details, or the SWIFT or BIC code does not match the bank named.
  • The amount requested is more than the invoice shows, for example when living costs are added to tuition. Banks match the payment to the document.
  • Funds are not in the account when the application is processed, or the naira balance does not cover the amount at the day's rate.
  • The payment needs to pass through a correspondent bank that holds it for checks.

Most of these are fixed by checking the documents against each other before you submit.

Before you pay

  • Confirm the school's bank details by phone using a number from the school's official website.
  • Check whether the school prefers its own payment portal, which may let you pay in its currency through a partner.
  • Keep copies of every document and the transfer confirmation for the visa file.

For other routes, see paying UK university fees from Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

If you receive income in dollars or pounds, a Pryme account lets you hold it in that currency with local account details, so tuition can be planned in the currency the school bills in. When you do convert, Swap shows the rate first and the fee on its own line before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can I pay school fees abroad with Stanbic IBTC?

Yes, banks process tuition as an invisible payment through Form A. Stanbic IBTC did not publish its steps online when we checked, so confirm the documents at a branch.

What documents do I need for Form A school fees?

Usually the admission letter, the school's invoice with its bank details, the student's passport, your ID and BVN, and the Form A application. The bank sets the final list.

How long does Form A take at Stanbic IBTC?

No timeline is published. Start two to three weeks before the school's deadline and ask the branch for its current processing time.

Can I pay school fees from my domiciliary account?

Yes, you can instruct the bank to send foreign currency you already hold, with documents showing the purpose. Correspondent bank charges may apply.
