Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Sponsoring a relative's US visit: what the invitation should say

What an invitation letter for a Nigerian relative's US visit should contain, what it cannot do, and why the State Department says it is not needed.

The short answer

The US State Department says a letter of invitation is not needed to apply for a visitor visa and is not a factor in the decision: your relative must qualify on their own ties to Nigeria. A letter can still help them explain the trip, so it should state who you are, your status and address, your relationship, the purpose and dates of the visit, where they will stay and who pays which costs.

What the State Department actually says

Families in the US often treat the invitation letter as the key document in a parent's or sibling's visa application. The State Department's visitor visa page, checked in October 2026, is plain on this point: "A letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support is not needed to apply for a visitor visa", and it is not one of the factors the consular officer weighs. The applicant has to show, in their own interview, that the trip is temporary and that they have ties abroad that will take them home. Assurances from family in the US do not replace that.

The same page says an applicant may show that another person will pay some or all of the trip's costs. That is the honest role of a host: you can make it clear you are paying for the flight or the stay, but you cannot make the visa decision easier by writing a stronger letter.

The visa itself, for a Nigerian passport holder

  • Application: Form DS-160 online, then an interview at the US embassy or consulate, with fingerprints taken.
  • Fee: the State Department lists a $185 non-refundable application fee for visitor visas, with a possible issuance fee depending on nationality.
  • Validity: the State Department's Nigeria reciprocity page shows B-1, B-2 and B-1/B-2 visas for Nigerians with no reciprocity fee, one entry and three months' validity.
  • Length of stay: set at the US port of entry by Customs and Border Protection on the I-94 record, not by the visa or the letter. Extensions are a USCIS matter.

What a useful invitation letter contains

Because the letter carries no legal weight, its job is to make the trip easy to describe and easy to check. Keep it to one page, signed and dated, and write facts, not pleas.

  1. Your full name, US address, phone number and email.
  2. Your status in the US (citizen, permanent resident, or the visa you hold) and, if you are working, your employer and role.
  3. Your relationship to the visitor, with their full name exactly as it appears in their Nigerian passport and their date of birth.
  4. The purpose of the visit in one sentence: a graduation, the birth of a grandchild, a family holiday.
  5. The planned dates, and a note that the visitor intends to return to Nigeria at the end of them.
  6. Where they will stay (your home, with its address, or a hotel).
  7. Who pays for what: flight, accommodation, food, local travel, and how medical costs will be covered while they are in the US.
  8. A short list of any documents you are attaching.

What to attach, if anything

Nothing is compulsory, but a copy of your passport or green card data page, and something that shows you can carry what you have promised to pay (a recent bank statement, an employer letter), lets your relative answer a question about the trip without guessing. Keep copies, not originals, and black out account numbers you do not want shared.

What the letter does not do

  • It does not guarantee a visa. The officer decides on the applicant's own circumstances.
  • It does not set how long your relative may stay. That is the I-94.
  • It is not a legal promise of support. Form I-134 and Form I-864 are separate USCIS forms with their own purposes; see our guide to Form I-134 for a visiting parent.
  • It does not fix weak ties. A parent who has retired, sold the family house and sent every child abroad will be asked about that, whatever you write.

A worked example

Example only. Ngozi, a nurse in Houston with a green card, is inviting her mother from Enugu for her son's naming ceremony and four weeks after it. Her letter gives her name, address and employer, says she is a permanent resident, names her mother exactly as in the passport, states the purpose and the dates, says her mother will stay in Ngozi's home and that Ngozi will pay the return flight and buy visitor health cover. She attaches a copy of her green card and one bank statement.

Her mother's own interview carries the case: her pension, her house in Enugu, the church role she returns to, and a clear answer about who is paying. If the officer never asks for the letter, nothing is lost.

What to check first

  1. That your relative's passport is valid well beyond the trip.
  2. The current fee and reciprocity entry on the State Department pages listed below.
  3. Who will pay for health care in the US; our guide to visitor health insurance for parents covers the options.
  4. The full money picture of the trip, in bringing parents to visit: the money side.

Where Pryme fits

If you are paying your relative's costs before they travel, you can send money to Nigeria from a multicurrency account, with the rate and fee shown before you approve. Where a bank statement is part of what you show, a verifiable statement, produced with VerifyDoc.ai, lets the reader confirm it has not been altered.

Questions people ask

Does my mother need an invitation letter for a US visa?

No. The State Department says a letter of invitation is not needed to apply for a visitor visa and is not a factor in the decision. It can help her explain the trip, but she must qualify on her own ties to Nigeria.

Should I notarise the invitation letter?

The State Department does not ask for one at all, so it sets no notarisation rule. A clear, signed and dated letter with your contact details is enough for its purpose.

Can I say in the letter that I will pay for everything?

Yes. The visitor visa page says an applicant may show that another person will pay some or all of the costs. Be specific about what you are paying and be ready to back it up.

How long can my relative stay if the visa is approved?

The visa does not decide that. Customs and Border Protection sets the admission period on the I-94 at entry; extensions are applied for through USCIS.
