Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Summer trip to Nigeria with US-born kids: a budget

Every cost of a family summer visit to Nigeria with US-born children, from passports or visas and vaccines to flights, baggage and money on the ground.

The short answer

Budget for travel documents first: US-born children need either a Nigerian passport or a Nigerian visa (the F9B route for accompanied minors of Nigerian parents), plus a US passport valid six months beyond arrival. Add yellow fever and polio certificates, which the State Department says travellers over nine months need, then flights, baggage and the naira you will spend in Nigeria. A family of four can easily pass $10,000 before gifts.

Documents: the costs people forget

Children born in the US to a Nigerian parent are US citizens and, under Nigeria's constitution, usually Nigerian citizens by birth as well. That gives two ways in: a Nigerian passport, or a visa in their US passport. Either way, they also need a US passport valid at least six months beyond arrival, with a blank page, according to the State Department's Nigeria page (updated June 2026).

RouteWhat it involvesCost (where published)
Nigerian passportApply through the Nigerian mission for your state; child needs proof of Nigerian parentageAtlanta consulate lists $142 for a 32-page, 5-year passport (page modified May 2025)
Visa for accompanied minors (F9B)Minor's passport, birth certificate showing parents' names, Nigerian parent's valid passport, consent and application letterNIS page shows no fee; the portal shows it when you apply
Returning holders of foreign passports (F9A)For Nigerians by birth on a foreign passport; valid 90 days, multiple entry, up to 30 days per entryNot shown on the NIS page

One rule shapes the choice: the State Department says US-Nigerian dual nationals are now required to have a valid Nigerian passport to leave Nigeria. If your children are Nigerian citizens, check with the mission which route applies before you book, because a visa may not solve the exit question.

Health: vaccines and certificates

The State Department says yellow fever and polio vaccination certificates are required for travellers over nine months old. The CDC says yellow fever vaccine is recommended from nine months and is not given to infants six months or younger; a single dose usually gives long-lasting protection. Only certain clinics give it, which you can find through the CDC's Travelers' Health clinic search. Travel clinics usually also discuss malaria prevention and routine vaccines for children. Prices are set by each clinic and are not published centrally, so call two clinics and ask for a per-person quote.

Flights and baggage

Summer fares rise as July approaches and school breaks fill planes, so book early. For baggage, Delta's overview page lists 50 lb per checked piece in Main Cabin and a 62-inch size limit (length plus width plus height). Its international free allowance to Lagos is not on that page, so check your booking. Gifts are what push families into excess baggage; decide what goes before you shop.

Money on the ground

Most of the spending in Nigeria will be in naira: local transport and drivers, fuel, family gifts and support, outings, food, data and airtime. Children add costs at home too: snacks, outings with cousins, clothes for events. Set a naira budget per week and convert as you go rather than all at once. If you carry more than $10,000 in cash and instruments out of the US in total, you must file FinCEN Form 105, and Nigeria requires amounts above $10,000 to be declared on arrival.

Worked example: family of four, three weeks (illustrative figures)

LineUS dollars
Return flights, 4 people at $1,6006,400
Nigerian passports for 2 children at $142284
Travel clinic visits and vaccines, 4 people1,000
Travel health insurance300
Transport and driver in Nigeria800
Gifts and family support1,500
Daily spending, food, data, outings1,200
Events (a wedding or naming)500
Total11,984

Apart from the published passport fee, these are example figures. A 10% buffer on the naira side (about $400 here on the last four lines) covers a weaker exchange rate or an unplanned family event.

Costs that belong to the children

US-born children often find Nigeria exciting and tiring in equal measure, and some of the budget goes on keeping them well and occupied. Plan for bottled water, insect repellent and sunscreen, which are cheaper to bring than to buy in a hurry. Budget for a few outings that suit them, such as a beach day, a park or a cinema, so the trip is not only adult visits. If they will stay with grandparents while you travel within Nigeria, leave money with whoever is caring for them and agree what it covers. Data for their phones or tablets is a real cost too; a local SIM with a data bundle is usually simpler than international roaming.

Before you fly: a short checklist

  1. Check every passport's expiry against the six-month rule.
  2. Decide Nigerian passport or visa for each child, and apply early; mission appointments can take weeks.
  3. Book travel clinic appointments at least a month ahead and keep the yellow fever certificates with the passports.
  4. If a child travels with only one parent or with a relative, carry notarised consent; the State Department says minors without a parent need notarised written permission.
  5. Set the naira budget and how you will pay for things in Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account lets you hold the trip budget in dollars and convert to naira with Swap week by week; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. For the health side in detail, see vaccines and travel clinic costs; for baggage, excess baggage to Nigeria; and for the winter version, budgeting a December trip.

Questions people ask

Do my US-born kids need a Nigerian visa?

They need either a Nigerian passport or a visa. NIS offers an F9B route for accompanied minors of Nigerian parents. The State Department says dual nationals need a valid Nigerian passport to leave Nigeria, so check with the mission first.

How much is a Nigerian passport for a child in the US?

The Atlanta consulate lists $142 for a 32-page, 5-year passport (page modified May 2025). Check your mission's current fee before applying.

Do children need a yellow fever vaccine for Nigeria?

The State Department says travellers over nine months need yellow fever and polio certificates. The CDC says the vaccine is recommended from nine months.

How much does a family trip to Nigeria cost from the US?

It depends on fares and how long you stay. In our example, a family of four spends about $12,000 for three weeks including flights, documents, vaccines and money on the ground.
