Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Registering a Nigerian business name from the UK

How to register a CAC business name while living in the UK: the online portal, current fees, the Nigerian address you need, NIN and annual returns.

The short answer

You can register a Nigerian business name from the UK online through the CAC portal, or through a CAC-accredited agent. The CAC fee schedule gazetted on 29 May 2025 lists ₦1,000 for name reservation and ₦20,000 for registration, with ₦25,000 extra if you want your residential address restricted. Plan to have your NIN ready, a principal place of business in Nigeria, and to file an annual return by 30 June each year after the first.

A business name is the simplest way to trade in Nigeria under a name other than your own: a family shop run by a sibling in Ibadan, a property management service in Lekki, a catering brand. It is not a separate legal person; you, the proprietor, remain personally responsible for its debts. If you want limited liability or outside investors, a company is the better fit, as compared in business name or limited company. This guide covers what changes when you register from the UK.

What you need before you start

  • Your NIN. The Mandatory Use of the National Identification Number Regulations 2017, as summarised by Templars, list business name registration among the transactions that need a NIN. If you do not have one, see NIN registration in the UK.
  • A valid ID and passport photograph, matching your NIN details exactly.
  • A principal place of business in Nigeria, where the business is carried on. A relative's shop or your Nigerian property can serve, with their consent.
  • Your residential address, which can be your UK address; see using a UK address on a CAC registration.
  • Two or three name options, in case your first choice is taken.
  • A way to pay naira fees online.

Current CAC fees

From the CAC schedule of fees published in the Federal Government Gazette of 29 May 2025:

ItemFee
Name reservation₦1,000
Reservation of a name with a restricted word₦5,000
Registration, with certified true copy of registration documents₦20,000
Restriction of residential address₦25,000
Annual return (each year)₦5,000
Change of business name₦10,000
Application for cessation₦10,000

The steps

  1. Search the name on CAC's public search; the 2025 schedule lists basic search information as free.
  2. Reserve it on the CAC portal; under CAMA 2020 a reservation lasts up to 60 days.
  3. Complete the registration form with the business's nature, principal place of business, and your personal details.
  4. Upload your ID, photograph and signature.
  5. Pay the registration fee, and the address restriction fee if you want it.
  6. Download the certificate once approved, along with the registration documents.

The full Nigeria-side walkthrough is in how to register a business name with CAC. If you use an agent, choose one listed as CAC-accredited, and make sure the registration is in your name with your own login details, not the agent's.

Problems that hold up diaspora applications

  • Name mismatches. If your NIN, passport and the form spell your name differently, fix the record first. NIMC's modification process for names asks for supporting documents such as a sworn affidavit or marriage certificate.
  • No real Nigerian address. A business name is carried on somewhere. Give an address where letters will reach someone who will tell you about them.
  • An agent holding the login. If someone else controls the portal account, you depend on them for every later filing. Keep the account in your name.
  • Restricted words. Words that need consent cost more to reserve and may need supporting documents, so check before you pick a name.

Running it from abroad

Decide early who will act for the business day to day: a sibling, a manager or a partner. A business name gives that person no legal role of their own, so put their authority in writing, including what they can spend and sign. Keep records of sales and costs in one place you can see from the UK, and agree how often you will review them together.

Keeping it in good standing

Business names file an annual return by 30 June each year, except in the year of registration, under CAMA 2020 section 822. The 2025 schedule sets the return fee at ₦5,000 and a one-off ₦5,000 penalty for late filing, plus daily default charges. Our guide to filing CAC annual returns from the UK covers the process.

Tax

A business name's profits are the proprietor's income. PwC's Nigeria tax summary says state tax authorities collect tax on individuals' income, while the NRS handles non-residents, so a proprietor living in the UK should check which authority applies. Income from the Nigerian business may also need to be reported in the UK.

Where Pryme fits

Once registered, the business needs an account in Nigeria. A Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country, holds NGN alongside GBP, USD and EUR, and the naira is held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. This page is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Questions people ask

Can I register a business name in Nigeria while living in the UK?

How much is CAC business name registration in 2026?

The CAC schedule gazetted on 29 May 2025 lists ₦1,000 for name reservation and ₦20,000 for registration. Check the amount shown on the portal before paying.

Can I use my UK address for a CAC business name?

Your residential address can be in the UK, and you can pay ₦25,000 to restrict it from public view. The principal place of business should be where the business operates in Nigeria.
