Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Using a UK address on a CAC registration

Which addresses on a CAC filing must be in Nigeria and where a UK home address can go, for directors, proprietors and partners living in the UK.

The short answer

The registered office of a Nigerian company must be in Nigeria under section 27(1)(b) of CAMA 2020, and it cannot be a PO box. A director's or proprietor's own residential address is a personal detail, and the sections we read do not require it to be Nigerian, so a UK home address can go there; CAC also offers to restrict a director's residential address from public view for ₦25,000.

You live in the UK and want to register a business in Nigeria: a company to hold property, a business name for a family trade, or an LLP with a partner at home. The CAC forms ask for several addresses, and getting them wrong causes queries or, later, missed letters. The key is to separate the business's address from your personal one.

The addresses on a CAC filing

Registered office (company)
Must be in Nigeria. CAMA 2020 s.27(1)(b) requires it, and s.728 requires a change to be notified within 14 days and rules out a PO box. Documents can be served on the company there (s.104).
Principal place of business (business name)
Where the business is carried on. For a Nigerian business name this is normally the Nigerian premises.
Director's or proprietor's residential address
Your own home address. Nothing in the CAMA sections we read requires it to be in Nigeria.
Service address for officers
Where the company or CAC can reach you. A UK address works if you will actually receive mail there, but a Nigerian contact address is often more practical.

If you have no Nigerian premises yet, the registered office can be the address of a relative, a serviced office or your lawyer's office, used with their written consent. Pick somewhere that will reliably pass on letters from CAC, the tax authority and the courts.

Your residential address and privacy

CAC's schedule of fees dated 29 May 2025 lists restriction of a director's residential address at ₦25,000. Using it keeps your UK home address off the public record. Changes in a director's particulars, including address, must be notified to CAC within 14 days (CAMA s.321), so tell CAC when you move within the UK.

Identity: what a proprietor abroad uses

Under the Mandatory Use of the National Identification Number Regulations 2017, as summarised by Templars, a NIN is required for company and business name registration and for CAC post-incorporation filings. We could not confirm from a CAC page how strictly the portal enforces this for directors abroad, so plan on needing your NIN. If you do not have one yet, see NIN registration in the UK. Use names exactly as they appear on your Nigerian passport and NIN.

Nationality matters more than address

Where you live does not change your company's type, but your nationality can. CAMA s.394 defines a small company as a private company with turnover of not more than ₦120 million and net assets of not more than ₦60 million, with no alien member and no government member, and directors holding at least 51% of the equity. A Nigerian citizen living in London is not an alien. A British spouse or business partner with no Nigerian citizenship who takes shares may be, and that can take the company out of the small company category, with effects on audit and other obligations (s.402).

Other structures

  • Business name: registration is needed when the name is not your true surname (s.814); changes must be filed within 28 days (s.818). The Nigeria-side steps are in how to register a business name with CAC.
  • LLP: CAMA requires at least two partners and two designated partners, one of whom must be resident in Nigeria (ss.746 to 757). A UK-based founder needs a partner at home for this structure.
  • One-person company: a single person may form a private company (s.18(2)), which many diaspora founders use.

Before you file

  1. Choose the Nigerian registered office and get the occupier's written consent.
  2. Gather your NIN, Nigerian passport and UK address details.
  3. Decide whether to pay for residential address restriction.
  4. Check the nationality of every shareholder against the small company test.
  5. Use the CAC portal or an accredited agent; an application may be delivered by an agent (s.36(3)).

Once registered, the company files annual returns every year; see filing CAC annual returns from the UK. It will also need a Tax ID, linked to its CAC number: getting a Nigerian Tax ID from the UK.

Where Pryme fits

Once the business is registered, it needs an account. A Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details for each. Business accounts come with a Compliance agent that prepares filing reminders for a person to approve. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Questions people ask

Can I use my UK address as the registered office of a Nigerian company?

No. CAMA 2020 s.27(1)(b) requires the registered office to be in Nigeria, and it cannot be a PO box.

Can a director of a Nigerian company live in the UK?

Yes. The director's residential address is a personal detail, and the CAMA sections we read do not require it to be in Nigeria.

Can I hide my home address on CAC records?

CAC's May 2025 fee schedule lists restriction of a director's residential address at ₦25,000.

Do I need a NIN to register a business with CAC from abroad?

The 2017 NIN Regulations require a NIN for company and business name registration. Plan on needing yours.
