Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Registering a business name with the CRO in Ireland

Trading under a name other than your own? File Form RBN1 with the CRO within a month. The fee, the wait, and what registration does not protect.

The short answer

If you trade in Ireland under any name other than your own surname, you must register that business name with the Companies Registration Office within one month of adopting it. A sole trader uses Form RBN1; the CRO fee is €20 filed online through CORE or €40 on paper, and it warns that processing can take up to four weeks.

Who has to register

The Companies Registration Office (CRO) says registration is required when:

  • an individual trades under a name that is not their true surname (for example, Ngozi Okafor trading as "Mama Ngozi Kitchen");
  • a partnership trades under a name that is not all the partners' true names;
  • a company trades under a name other than its full corporate name;
  • a person with a place of business in the State publishes a newspaper.

If Ngozi Okafor trades simply as "Ngozi Okafor", no business name registration is needed. The applicant must have a place of business in the State, so a reader still living in Nigeria cannot register an Irish business name for a business that has no Irish base.

Which form and what it costs

FormForFee (CRO, May 2026)
RBN1Individuals (sole traders)€20 online via CORE, €40 on paper
RBN1APartnerships€20 online via CORE, €40 on paper
RBN1BBodies corporate (companies)€20 online via CORE, €40 on paper

The CRO advises filing from a laptop or desktop because mobile devices can cause problems. It also warns that RBN1s may take up to four weeks to process because of a backlog, handled strictly in date order, and it publishes daily processing times on its home page. File as soon as you settle on the name; the one-month deadline runs from when you adopt it, not from when the certificate arrives.

Choosing a name the CRO will accept

  • No "Limited", "Ltd", "Teoranta", "Teo", "Incorporated", "Inc." or "Company": those words suggest a company that does not exist.
  • Names ending in a domain suffix such as ".ie" or starting with "www" are treated as undesirable, and proof of domain ownership is needed.
  • "Associates" or "Group" implies more than one person, so a sole trader cannot use them on an RBN1.
  • The CRO does not check your name against existing company names, business names or trade marks. That check is yours.

What registration does, and does not, do

Registration is a disclosure rule: it tells the public who is behind a trading name. The CRO is explicit that it does not protect the name against duplication, does not mean the name would be accepted as a company name, does not authorise a name that might otherwise be prohibited, and does not indicate that no trade mark exists. If the name matters to you, consider a trade mark and a company, not just an RBN1.

After you register

  • Display the certificate. The CRO says it must be shown prominently at the principal place of business and every branch or place where the business is normally carried on.
  • Put your own name on documents. The proprietor's name must appear on letters, circulars, catalogues and other documents that carry the business name.
  • Register for tax separately. The CRO registration does not register you with Revenue; see sole trader registration on Form TR1.
  • Stopping or selling. To stop using the name, file an RBN3. Ownership cannot be transferred on an RBN2; a new owner registers the name in their own name on a fresh RBN1.

Worked example

Example only. Tunde, on Stamp 4 in Limerick, starts making Nigerian-style small chops for parties and calls the business "Owambe Bites". Because that is not his surname, he files an RBN1 on CORE the week he prints his first flyers, pays €20, and waits about a month for the emailed certificate, which he pins up in his kitchen unit. His flyers and invoices read "Owambe Bites, proprietor Tunde Adeyemi". Two years later he wants to sell the business to a friend: the friend files a new RBN1 in her own name and Tunde files an RBN3, because an RBN2 cannot transfer ownership. As the business handles food, Tunde also registered it as a food business before trading.

Check your immigration permission first

Registering a name does not make trading permitted. Irish Immigration Service Delivery says Stamp 4 holders can establish and operate a business, while Stamp 1G graduates may not be self-employed and Stamp 2 students must not engage in any other business or trade. See running a business on Stamp 1G or Stamp 2.

Steps

  1. Confirm your permission allows self-employment.
  2. Check the name against the CRO search and the trade mark register.
  3. Log in to CORE on a laptop or desktop and complete Form RBN1.
  4. Pay the €20 online fee.
  5. When the emailed certificate arrives, display it and add your name to documents.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme lets any customer generate a regular or verifiable receipt, through its partnership with VerifyDoc.ai; see receipts. Business customers can send invoices and hold euro and naira in a Business Account opened from any country.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost to register a business name in Ireland?

The CRO fee is €20 filed online through CORE and €40 on paper, according to its business names page (May 2026).

How long does RBN1 registration take?

The CRO says RBN1s may take up to four weeks because of a backlog, processed in date order. Its home page shows daily processing times.

Do I need to register my business name if I use my own name?

No. Registration is needed only if you trade under a name other than your true surname.

Does registering a business name protect it?

No. The CRO says registration does not protect the name against duplication and does not indicate that no trade mark exists.
