Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Property expos for the diaspora: what to verify before paying

How to check the developer, the title and the payment terms behind Nigerian homes marketed at diaspora property expos before you pay a deposit.

The short answer

Treat an expo as an introduction, not a purchase. Before paying more than a small refundable booking fee, verify three things through your own lawyer in Nigeria: that the developer is registered (in Lagos, on the LASRERA register), that the land title is genuine and covers the estate, and that the contract of sale sets out price, delivery dates, refunds and the documents you will receive.

Property expos in London, Houston, Toronto and Dubai bring Nigerian developers to the diaspora, with show-day discounts, glossy brochures and payment plans in pounds or dollars. Many developers are serious businesses. The format, though, is built to close sales on the day, far from the land, the registry and the people who could tell you what is wrong. This checklist is what to do between the expo and the first real payment.

At the stand: what to collect

  • The developer's full registered company name and RC number (not just the brand)
  • The estate's exact address and the title the developer claims, such as a C of O, a registered deed or a government allocation
  • A copy of the survey plan for the estate and for the specific plot or unit
  • The draft contract of sale and payment plan
  • Names of the developer's lawyers, and whether the price includes consent and registration costs
  • Any planning or building permit references for off-plan units

Check 1: the developer

In Lagos, the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority Law 2022 requires developers and other real estate dealers to register with the Authority, keep client money in a separate client account, and disclose their projects. Summaries on Mondaq (Famsville, 2022) say the register of dealers is open to public inspection and that the Authority investigates complaints and offers mediation. Ask the developer for its LASRERA registration and have your lawyer confirm it. Outside Lagos, ask what state regulator, if any, applies.

If what is being sold is an "investment" (fractional ownership, guaranteed rental returns, land banking units) rather than a specific plot or home, it may be a capital market product. The SEC publishes a "Find a Registered Operator" directory and a Known Investment Scams list; see SEC warning signs for diaspora schemes.

Check 2: the land and title

Ownkey's due diligence guide (June 2026) recommends, for Lagos, a Land Registry search on the C of O before any payment beyond a nominal booking fee, a High Court litigation search, a probate registry check if the title is in a deceased person's name, a check of the planning permit, and a visit to the local traditional authorities. The Trusted Advisors (Mondaq, September 2024) list the documents to see: C of O, deed of assignment, survey plan, Governor's Consent and receipts, with a Lagos search then costing about ₦15,000 to ₦20,000 and taking 5 to 14 days.

  1. Search the title at the state land registry through your lawyer; see registry searches by proxy.
  2. Have a surveyor chart the survey plan to confirm the land is not under government acquisition; see excision and gazette.
  3. Confirm the developer's title covers the whole estate, not a neighbouring parcel.
  4. For off-plan homes, check the planning permit and that the developer has the right to build.

Remember that under the Land Use Act, transferring a statutory right of occupancy needs the Governor's consent (s.22). Ask how and when the developer will deliver a consented, registered deed to you; an allocation letter alone is not title (see what an allocation letter gives you).

Check 3: the payment terms

TermWhat to insist on
Price and currencyFixed price in writing; if quoted in pounds or dollars, the conversion basis and who bears FX changes
PayeeThe developer's company account in Nigeria, or a lawyer's client account; never an individual's account
StagesPayments tied to milestones for off-plan; see escrow and milestones
DeliveryA completion date and what happens if it slips
RefundsRefund amount and timeline if the developer fails or you withdraw
DefaultGrace period and deductions if you miss instalments; see default clauses
DocumentsWhich documents you receive at each stage, ending with a consented, registered deed

A worked example

Example only. At a London expo, Dayo is offered a terrace for ₦150,000,000 with a 10% "expo discount" if he pays 30% that day. The discount is worth ₦15,000,000, but the 30% deposit on the discounted ₦135,000,000 price is ₦40,500,000 paid before any title search. He pays a ₦500,000 refundable booking fee instead, and his lawyer's search two weeks later shows the estate title is in a different company's name. His exposure is ₦500,000, not ₦40,500,000.

Where Pryme fits

When you do pay, pay in a way you can prove. Pryme customers can generate a verifiable receipt through VerifyDoc.ai for each payment to a developer, and the multicurrency account lets you pay in naira from abroad, with naira held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, converting through Swap only when you approve the rate and fee shown.

Questions people ask

Is it safe to buy Nigerian property at a diaspora expo?

It can be, if you treat the expo as an introduction and verify the developer, title and contract through your own lawyer before paying more than a small refundable booking fee.

How do I check a Lagos property developer is registered?

Ask for its LASRERA registration and have your lawyer confirm it on the Authority's register of dealers, which the LASRERA Law 2022 makes open to inspection.

What documents should a developer show me?

The estate title (such as a C of O or registered deed), survey plan, planning permit for off-plan units, and a draft contract of sale.

Should I pay a developer into a personal account?

No. Pay only into the developer's company account or a lawyer's client account, and keep receipts for every payment.
