Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Can you receive PayPal money from Nigeria in Canada?

What PayPal's own Nigeria terms say about sending, receiving and withdrawing, why the answer sits inside the account, and the routes that do work.

The short answer

It depends on what the Nigerian PayPal account is allowed to do, and PayPal does not publish a simple yes or no. PayPal's Nigeria user agreement (last updated 28 May 2026) says sending to friends and family is available only "in some countries/regions", that the ability to receive "varies by country/region", and that you see your own options by logging in. Check the sender's account first; if personal sending is not offered, use a bank wire or a licensed transfer service instead.

What PayPal's Nigeria terms actually say

Most of what circulates about PayPal in Nigeria is second-hand. The primary source is the user agreement on PayPal's Nigeria site, which we read in October 2026 (it shows "last updated on 28 May 2026"). The parts that matter for a family sending money to Canada are short:

  • Sending to people. "In some countries/regions, you can send funds to a friend or family member from your PayPal account." The agreement does not list which countries.
  • Receiving. "The ability to receive payments varies by country/region." PayPal says you can check this by logging in.
  • Withdrawing. Withdrawal options, including transfer to a linked bank account, are shown inside the account. PayPal "may set limits on your withdrawals", may delay a withdrawal to confirm you authorised it, and "may charge a fee" for a transfer to a bank.
  • Currency. "You may only withdraw the balance in the opening currency of your account."

In the sections we read, the agreement did not set out separate Nigeria-specific rules. So the reliable answer to "can my brother in Lagos PayPal me?" is: look at what his own account offers. If the "send to friends and family" option is not there, the transfer cannot start, whatever the Canadian side can do.

The two halves of the question

A PayPal transfer has a sending side and a receiving side, and both must allow it.

SideWhat has to be trueWhere to check
Sender in NigeriaAccount offers personal sending, and has a funding source that worksSender's PayPal account menus
Funding sourceA Nigerian card that can be charged in foreign currencySender's bank card terms and limits
Receiver in CanadaCanadian PayPal account that can receive and withdraw to a Canadian bankReceiver's PayPal account
WithdrawalBank linked, limits and any fee shownReceiver's PayPal wallet page

The funding source is often where it breaks. A Nigerian PayPal account is usually funded by a Nigerian card, and naira cards have had tight international limits. Nairametrics reported on 7 September 2026 that several banks had raised them, for example GTBank to $40,000 a quarter on its naira card and FirstBank to $10,000 a quarter, while Stanbic IBTC was at $8,000 a quarter on Mastercard. Limits change, differ by card type and channel, and are set by each bank, so the sender should confirm the current figure with their bank before trying.

What tends to go wrong

  • The option is missing. If the sender cannot see a personal send option, no workaround inside PayPal fixes it.
  • The card is declined. A naira card may be blocked for international use or over its quarterly limit.
  • Goods-and-services framing. Paying a relative as if for a purchase to get round the menus misdescribes the payment, can bring fees meant for sellers, and can lead PayPal to hold or reverse funds. Do not do it.
  • Withdrawal delays. PayPal says it may delay a withdrawal to confirm you authorised it. Plan around that if the money is needed for rent or fees.

Routes that work when PayPal does not

If the family wants to move savings, not pay for a purchase, the regulated bank routes are usually clearer and better documented:

  1. Domiciliary account wire. If the money is already in dollars, a Nigerian bank can send it from a domiciliary account by international transfer. GTBank's domiciliary page, for example, lists transfers to domiciliary accounts in Nigeria and abroad as an outflow. See moving money from a domiciliary account to Canada.
  2. Naira to a Canadian account. This involves buying foreign currency first. The steps and documents are in wiring from a Nigerian bank to a Canadian account.
  3. Licensed transfer operators. Most operators serve Canada to Nigeria, not the reverse. Techeconomy's reading of the CBN's March 2026 circular says outbound transfers through international money transfer operators are generally prohibited, so check before assuming an app will send from Nigeria.

Whichever route you use, keep the paper trail. A Canadian bank or mortgage lender may later ask where the money came from; see what Canadian banks ask about Nigeria wires.

What to check first

  1. Ask the sender to log in and confirm whether personal sending is offered and which funding sources are accepted.
  2. Ask the sender's bank for the card's current international limit and whether it is enabled for web payments.
  3. Confirm your Canadian PayPal account can withdraw to your Canadian bank, and note any withdrawal fee or limit it shows.
  4. If any step fails, switch to a bank wire and keep the bank's transfer confirmation.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not a PayPal substitute for purchases. For families moving their own money, a Pryme Personal Account can be opened from any country and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, each with local account details, so money can stay in the currency it arrived in. When you choose to convert, Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve. See how the multicurrency account works.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian PayPal account send money to Canada?

PayPal's Nigeria agreement says personal sending is available only in some countries or regions and that options are shown in the account. The sender should log in and check; if the option is not offered, use a bank wire.

Why does PayPal decline my Nigerian card?

Usually the card is not enabled for international use or is over its foreign spending limit. Banks set these limits and change them; Nairametrics reported several increases in September 2026. Ask your bank for the current figure.

Can I withdraw PayPal money to my Canadian bank account?

PayPal says withdrawal options, limits and any fee are shown in your account, and that you can only withdraw the balance in your account's opening currency.

Is it fine to mark a family transfer as goods and services?

No. Describing a gift as a purchase misstates the payment and can lead to holds, reversals or fees. Use a personal send option if offered, or a bank transfer.
