Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Moving money from a Nigerian domiciliary account to Canada

The outward wire process from a Nigerian domiciliary account to Canada: 2026 CBN rules, documents, the charges banks publish and steps to follow.

The short answer

You move money from a Nigerian domiciliary account to Canada by asking your bank for an outward SWIFT transfer to your Canadian account. Under the CBN Foreign Exchange Manual 2026, transfers from self-funded domiciliary accounts no longer need Form A, and up to US$10,000 a day can go without exhaustive documentation. Banks charge a SWIFT fee, such as the 22 USD Union Bank lists, plus VAT, and your Canadian bank may charge to receive.

What changed in 2026

Until mid-2026 many domiciliary holders were asked to fill Form A for outward transfers, even of their own dollars. The fourth edition of the CBN Foreign Exchange Manual, effective 1 June 2026, changed that. Commentators summarise it this way: Form A is not required for outward remittances from self-funded domiciliary accounts, and direct transfers of up to US$10,000 a day are possible without exhaustive trade documentation (Pavestones Legal via Mondaq, June 2026). TheNigeriaLawyer describes ordinary domiciliary holders as having "unfettered and unrestricted access" to their balances for eligible transactions, though its description of the US$10,000 a day limit differs, so ask your bank how it applies the limit.

"Self-funded" matters. Money you paid in yourself, from abroad or from your own foreign currency, is treated differently from export proceeds, which have their own rules. If your balance came from foreign exchange you bought from the bank for a stated purpose, the bank may ask about that purpose.

Documents and details to prepare

  • Your Canadian bank's wire instructions: account name exactly as on the account, account number, bank name and address, SWIFT code and any intermediary bank for US dollars. See what the Canadian side must give.
  • A transfer instruction, either through internet banking if your bank allows international transfers online, or a signed letter or form at the branch.
  • Your ID and BVN details, matching the account.
  • Purpose of payment, such as personal savings or family support.
  • Supporting documents if the bank asks, especially above the daily amount: statements, sale agreements, or evidence of how the balance was funded.

What banks charge

Banks publish their charges in different forms. Some examples from their own pages, read in October 2026:

BankCharge it listsNote
Union BankSWIFT charge 22 USD, 15 GBP or 18 EUR on its Domiciliary Current account; 2% on transfer of cash depositsPage shows conflicting transfer percentages; confirm at branch
Keystone BankUS$25 telex charge on domiciliary accountsTelex means the SWIFT message
FirstBankTransfer charges of at most 0.25% for domiciliary holders with balances of US$30,000 or more; fees attract 7.5% VATLower balances not stated on the FAQ page

Add the costs outside your bank's control: intermediary banks may deduct a fee in transit, and your Canadian bank may charge for incoming wires; TD lists $17.50 per wire received (fee guide effective March 2026).

Worked example

Example only. Funmi sends US$8,000 from her Union Bank domiciliary account to her Canadian US dollar account, with Union Bank's listed 22 USD SWIFT charge paid separately.

  1. VAT at 7.5% on the 22 USD charge, if the bank applies it, is US$1.65, so her charges total US$23.65.
  2. US$8,000 leaves her account for Canada, plus US$23.65 in charges.
  3. An intermediary deducts an example US$15, and her Canadian bank an example US$17.50: US$8,000 − US$15 − US$17.50 = US$7,967.50 arrives.
  4. Her total cost is US$23.65 + US$15 + US$17.50 = US$56.15, about 0.7% of the amount.

Steps

  1. Confirm the balance is self-funded and available, and check whether your bank allows online international transfers.
  2. Get your Canadian bank's current incoming wire instructions.
  3. Ask your Nigerian bank how it applies the daily limit and what it charges, including VAT.
  4. Submit the instruction online or at the branch, choosing to pay charges yourself if you want the full amount to arrive.
  5. Keep the transfer advice with the SWIFT reference, and give it to your Canadian bank if the money is slow to arrive.
  6. File the advice with your records; your Canadian bank may ask about the source of a large incoming amount, as covered in questions from your Canadian bank.

If the transfer is rejected or returned

Returned wires usually come back for a mismatch between the beneficiary name and the account, a wrong SWIFT code, or a missing intermediary bank. The money returns to your domiciliary account, often less the charges already taken, and sometimes after several days. Before resending, get fresh wire instructions from your Canadian bank and compare every field with the rejected instruction. Ask your Nigerian bank whether it charges again for the second attempt.

Cash in the domiciliary account

If you plan to deposit dollar cash into a domiciliary account and then wire it, check the charges first: Union Bank, for example, lists 2% on transfer of cash deposits. Withdrawing dollar cash has its own rules; our Nigeria library covers withdrawing dollar cash from a domiciliary account.

Where Pryme fits

For money you want to keep moving between Nigeria and Canada, a Pryme Personal Account opened from Canada holds USD and NGN with local details for each, so you can keep dollars as dollars and convert with Swap only when you choose, with the rate and fee shown first. See multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Do I need Form A to send money from my domiciliary account to Canada?

Not for self-funded domiciliary balances under the 2026 FX Manual, as commentators summarise it. Ask your bank how it applies this.

How much can I send from a domiciliary account per day?

Direct transfers of up to US$10,000 a day without exhaustive documentation are described. Larger amounts may need supporting documents.

How much does a Nigerian bank charge to send dollars abroad?

It varies. Union Bank lists a 22 USD SWIFT charge, Keystone a US$25 telex charge, and FirstBank up to 0.25% for balances of US$30,000 or more, plus VAT.

Can I send from my domiciliary account through internet banking?

Some banks allow it online; others need a branch instruction. Check your bank's internet banking options.
