Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Can Canadian income qualify you for a Nigerian mortgage?

What the FMBN and NiDCOM diaspora mortgage asks of a Canada-based applicant, the documents to prepare, and the naira repayment risk to plan for.

The short answer

Yes, Canadian income can support a Nigerian mortgage, mainly through the National Housing Fund diaspora mortgage that FMBN launched for Nigerians abroad in August 2026. Its published terms ask for NiDCOM verification, at least 12 months of dollar NHF contributions, 10% equity and income proof such as payslips, bank statements, an employer letter, a credit report and your residence permit; loans go up to ₦100 million at 9% a year over up to 10 years, booked and repaid in naira.

Buying a home in Nigeria on a Canadian salary is a common goal, and until recently most Nigerian mortgage lending assumed a borrower paid in naira by a Nigerian employer. The main route now open to Canada-based Nigerians is the National Housing Fund (NHF) diaspora product run by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM). Commercial banks and primary mortgage banks have their own products, with terms that vary by lender.

The FMBN and NiDCOM diaspora mortgage

FMBN announced the official launch of its diaspora mortgage in London on 7 August 2026: loans of up to ₦100 million, subject to affordability, at 9% a year over a maximum of 10 years, with digital KYC. The FMBN news item does not name eligible countries, so confirm that Canada-based applicants can apply when you register.

NiDCOM's published terms page sets out the detail:

TierMonthly incomeNHF contributionMonths contributingMaximum loan
Basicunder $1,000$100 a month24₦50m
Classic$1,000 to $2,000$150 a month18₦75m
Premiumover $2,000$200 a month12₦100m
  • You must be a Nigerian abroad verified by NiDCOM, registered with the NHF for at least 12 months with consistent contributions, and a first-time NHF borrower.
  • Equity contribution: 10% of the property price.
  • Rate: 9% a year, split on the page as 6% to the bank and 3% to the primary mortgage bank, including 1% insurance; a 0.75% management fee and 1% insurance on the loan are also listed.
  • Contributions are paid in dollars; the loan is booked and repaid in naira.
  • Retirement age for the loan is set at 70, which limits tenor for older applicants.

An older FMBN PDF describes a different version (₦50 million cap, 30% equity, rate to be determined). Treat the NiDCOM terms and the August 2026 launch notice as current, and confirm with FMBN before you pay anything. For how NHF loans are processed through a primary mortgage bank, see the FMBN diaspora NHF mortgage.

The documents a Canada-based applicant needs

NiDCOM lists your passport, a photograph, three months of payslips, six months of bank statements, an employer letter, a credit bureau report, your residence permit and NiDCOM registration. In Canadian terms that usually means:

  • Recent pay stubs and a signed employment letter showing salary, start date and permanence.
  • Six months of statements from the Canadian account your pay lands in.
  • Your PR card, work permit or Canadian passport as the residence document.
  • A Canadian credit report from Equifax or TransUnion, and possibly a Nigerian one.
  • Your CRA notice of assessment, which many lenders ask for even when not listed.
  • Title documents for the property, checked by a Nigerian lawyer before you commit.

Lenders may ask for notarised copies of Canadian documents; see authenticating an Ontario document for Nigeria.

A worked example of the naira repayment

Example only: a ₦50,000,000 loan at 9% a year over 10 years, repaid monthly, costs about ₦633,379 a month, or about ₦76.0 million over the term. With 10% equity, it supports a property priced at about ₦55.6 million.

At an example rate of ₦1,000 per CAD, the instalment is about CAD 633. Because the loan is in naira and your income is in Canadian dollars, a weaker naira makes each instalment cheaper in CAD, and a stronger naira makes it dearer. The bigger risk is the other way round: your Canadian income falling, or a job loss, while the naira loan keeps running. Your dollar NHF contributions are converted to naira at refund, so you also carry exchange-rate risk on them.

Banks and primary mortgage banks

Several Nigerian banks advertise diaspora mortgages, usually with higher equity, shorter tenors and market interest rates. Requirements differ by lender, and some may lend in dollars, which changes the currency picture. A summary of current bank offers is in diaspora mortgages in Nigeria: which banks.

What to check first

  1. Register with NiDCOM and the NHF early: the contribution period, not the paperwork, is usually the longest wait.
  2. Ask FMBN in writing whether Canada-based applicants are accepted and which primary mortgage bank will process your file.
  3. Have the title searched before paying equity.
  4. Work out the naira instalment in CAD at a cautious exchange rate, and how long you could pay it without income.

Where Pryme fits

Mortgage instalments, equity and NHF contributions all need money moving into Nigeria. A Pryme account opened from Canada holds USD and naira; Swap converts when you choose, with the rate and fee shown before you approve, and Send pays a Nigerian account. Verifiable statements from VerifyDoc.ai give a lender proof of payments it can check. Pryme does not offer mortgages.

Questions people ask

Can I get a mortgage in Nigeria while living in Canada?

Yes. The FMBN diaspora NHF mortgage, launched in August 2026, is aimed at Nigerians abroad, and some banks have their own diaspora products. Confirm Canada-based applicants are accepted.

How much can I borrow under the NHF diaspora mortgage?

Up to ₦50m, ₦75m or ₦100m depending on monthly income tier, per NiDCOM's terms, subject to affordability.

What is the interest rate on the FMBN diaspora mortgage?

9% a year over up to 10 years, according to FMBN's August 2026 launch notice and the NiDCOM terms page.

Do I repay a Nigerian diaspora mortgage in dollars?

Under the NHF product, contributions are in dollars but the loan is booked and repaid in naira, so your CAD cost moves with the exchange rate.
