Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Diaspora mortgages in Nigeria: which banks offer them

The FMBN NHF Diaspora Mortgage launched in August 2026, its terms, how it compares with commercial bank mortgages, and the conditions to expect.

The short answer

The clearest diaspora mortgage in Nigeria as at October 2026 is the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria's NHF Diaspora Mortgage, launched in London on 7 August 2026: up to ₦100 million at 9% a year over a maximum of 10 years, for Nigerians abroad who contribute to the NHF in US dollars and apply through an accredited primary mortgage bank. Commercial bank mortgages exist but are priced far higher, so compare the full cost before you apply.

The FMBN NHF Diaspora Mortgage

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) launched its National Housing Fund (NHF) Diaspora Mortgage Loan in London on Friday 7 August 2026. FMBN's announcement gives the headline terms: up to ₦100 million 'subject to affordability and applicable requirements', 9% per annum, a maximum tenor of 10 years, with KYC done digitally and contributions made remotely.

The fuller terms are on the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) scheme page. NiDCOM verifies applicants; FMBN processes applications through its online system, ideally via an accredited primary mortgage bank (PMB).

CategoryMonthly incomeMonthly NHF contributionContributions before applyingMaximum loan
BasicBelow US$1,000US$10024 months₦50 million
ClassicUS$1,000–2,000US$15018 months₦75 million
PremiumAbove US$2,000US$20012 months₦100 million
  • Equity: 10% of the property value.
  • Interest: 9% a year (6% to FMBN and 3% to the PMB, which includes 1% for insurance).
  • Other charges: insurance of 1% of the loan amount and a management fee of 0.75% of the loan amount.
  • Currency: contributions in US dollars; the loan is booked and repaid in naira.
  • Eligibility: Nigerian living abroad, verified by NiDCOM; at least 12 months of NHF contributions; first NHF loan; verifiable income (a spouse's income may count).
  • Documents: passport data page and photo, three months' payslips, six months' bank statements, employer letter (or business registration if self-employed), a satisfactory credit bureau report, residence permit and NiDCOM registration.

Worked example: a ₦30 million home under the NHF scheme

Example. You are in the Classic category and buy a ₦30,000,000 home. Equity at 10% is ₦3,000,000, so the loan is ₦27,000,000. At 9% a year over 10 years with monthly repayments, each payment is about ₦342,025. Over 120 months you repay about ₦41,042,951, of which about ₦14,042,951 is interest. Add the 0.75% management fee (₦202,500) and 1% insurance (₦270,000) on the loan. Your US$150 monthly NHF contribution continues during the loan, under the NiDCOM terms.

The lender offers an amount based on your income and credit report, and the offer letter sets out the amount, cost and repayment schedule; you accept it before anything is drawn.

Commercial bank mortgages

Nigerian banks and primary mortgage banks also lend for homes, and some market products to Nigerians abroad. We could not verify a current bank-published diaspora mortgage page with full terms as at October 2026, so ask each bank directly and get its terms in writing. To show how far pricing can differ, Sterling Bank's HAFF mortgage page (October 2026, a general product, not diaspora-specific) states 32% a year subject to market conditions, up to ₦150 million, 30% equity for salaried borrowers and 40% for business owners, a 10-year maximum for salaried borrowers, and completed residential property only.

The National Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC), which refinances mortgages for member lenders, says it has a Uniform Underwriting Standard for the diaspora alongside formal and informal sector standards. A lender that uses it may refinance your loan through NMRC, which is one question worth asking.

Questions to ask the primary mortgage bank

  • Is the bank currently accredited by FMBN for the diaspora product, and how many diaspora applications has it processed?
  • Which property types qualify, and does the home need to be completed before the loan is drawn?
  • What title does it accept (C of O, registered deed with Governor's consent), and who pays for perfecting it?
  • How are monthly naira repayments collected from someone abroad, and what happens if a payment is late?
  • Can you repay early, and is there a charge for doing so?

Using your RSA for equity

If you built up a Nigerian RSA before moving, PenCom guidelines allow up to 25% of the RSA balance to be applied as equity for a residential mortgage, if you have at least 60 months of mandatory contributions and more than three years to retirement (FCMB Pensions). If 25% exceeds the equity the lender needs, only the required amount is released. See contributing to an RSA from abroad.

What to check first

  1. Register with NiDCOM and confirm the current FMBN terms and accredited PMBs.
  2. Start NHF contributions early: the waiting period is 12 to 24 months depending on income.
  3. Check the property's title before you apply (see verification steps); off-plan homes may not qualify.
  4. Compare total cost, not just the rate: fees, insurance, equity and the exchange rate risk of repaying naira from foreign income. If you plan to build rather than buy, see building a house from abroad.

Where Pryme fits

Your loan is repaid in naira while you probably earn in another currency. A Pryme account holds your income in its own currency (multicurrency), and Swap converts the amount you need each month, with the rate shown and the fee on its own line before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can Nigerians abroad get a mortgage in Nigeria?

Yes. FMBN's NHF Diaspora Mortgage, launched 7 August 2026, offers up to ₦100 million at 9% a year over up to 10 years to NiDCOM-verified Nigerians abroad who contribute to the NHF in US dollars.

How much equity do I need for the FMBN diaspora mortgage?

The NiDCOM scheme page states 10% equity. An older FMBN document said 30%, so confirm with FMBN or your PMB.

How long must I contribute to NHF before applying from abroad?

12 months if you earn above US$2,000 a month, 18 months for US$1,000–2,000, and 24 months below US$1,000, per the NiDCOM terms.

Do Nigerian banks give diaspora mortgages?

Some banks and primary mortgage banks lend to Nigerians abroad, but terms vary widely. Ask each lender for written terms and compare total cost with the FMBN scheme.
