Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Moving your Nigerian number to an eSIM from Canada

MTN, Glo and Airtel all issue eSIMs, but their own pages describe an in-store process with ID checks. What that means if you are in Canada.

The short answer

Not remotely, on the networks' own pages. MTN, Glo and Airtel each describe eSIM activation in a store or service centre, where staff check your device and identity (Glo names NIN verification) and give you a QR code. From Canada the realistic routes are converting on your next trip home, or asking the network whether a proxy can collect the QR under its proxy SIM-swap rules.

What each network's page says

An eSIM is a SIM profile downloaded to your phone, usually by scanning a QR code. For a Nigerian in Canada it is attractive: your Nigerian number lives on the same phone as your Canadian SIM, ready for bank codes and family calls. The catch is how Nigerian networks issue it.

NetworkWhere you get itChecks and cost (as on its page, Oct 2026)
MTNMTN store; an agent checks device eligibility and gives a QR codeAgent links the SIM serial and PUK to your number; no fee stated; lost QR retrievable at any MTN store with ID and the number
GloGloworld shop or Glo dealer outletStaff verify the device and your NIN; migration free "for a limited period" but you must buy a data plan of ₦1,500 or more at activation
AirtelAirtel service centre or showroom, by SIM swapQR code single-use, scanned on Wi-Fi; FAQ says "there is currently no cost involved"; moving phones needs a new swap and QR

We did not find a T2 (formerly 9mobile) eSIM page to check; ask T2 directly. None of the three pages above describes a remote or app-based eSIM conversion for customers abroad.

Your realistic options from Canada

1. Convert on your next trip

The simplest. Take your phone, your NIN and a valid ID to a store, check the phone is eSIM-capable first (Glo and Airtel tell you to dial *#06# to see the EID), and scan the QR on Wi-Fi in the store. Glo describes it as taking a few minutes when your NIN and internet are ready.

2. A proxy collects the QR

MTN publishes rules for a SIM swap by proxy: both you and the proxy need a NIN; you provide photo ID and, if abroad, your passport data page; a sworn affidavit (court or notary) giving the reason; proof of ownership, such as the SIM pack, an eSIM QR slip or an affidavit; and a letter with an indemnity. The proxy must have been an MTN customer for more than 30 days and must not have acted as a proxy in the last 90 days. MTN's page does not say whether a proxy swap can deliver an eSIM QR rather than a physical SIM, so ask MTN (customercare.ng@mtn.com) before relying on it. Glo publishes a SIM replacement by proxy form with a letter of authority and both IDs.

3. Keep the physical SIM alive instead

If an eSIM is not practical yet, protect the number. Prepaid numbers left idle risk being disconnected and recycled. MTN Keep My Number covers numbers abroad or inactive for more than 180 days: one year ₦3,500 (*365*1#), two years ₦5,000, three years ₦7,500, as listed in October 2026. Airtel's version lists ₦2,000 for a year (*494*1#), ₦3,500 for two and ₦5,000 for three. Both say an expired, unrenewed subscription can lead to the number being disconnected and recycled. See keeping a Nigerian SIM active in Canada.

Before you convert: a checklist

  1. Check your phone shows an EID (dial *#06#) and is unlocked for a second carrier.
  2. Make sure your NIN is linked to the line; Glo verifies it at the counter.
  3. Note your last recharge amount and date and three numbers you call often; MTN may ask these on a swap.
  4. Have Wi-Fi ready; the profile downloads over the internet.
  5. After activation, test a call and an SMS, then a bank code, before you fly back.

eSIM and your bank codes

An eSIM receives SMS like a physical SIM, but only when it can register on a network. In Canada that means international roaming on your Nigerian plan, and roaming SMS delivery depends on the network's partner agreements. So an eSIM solves the problem of carrying two SIM cards, not the problem of receiving SMS abroad. Our guide to getting Nigerian bank OTPs in Canada covers the alternatives, and SIM swap fraud in Nigeria explains why an unexpected loss of signal on your Nigerian line deserves a call to your bank.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not send SMS codes. Its security uses an authenticator app and a transaction PIN, so your Pryme account works in Canada whether or not your Nigerian line has signal. A Personal Account can be opened from Canada and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR.

Questions people ask

Can I get an MTN eSIM while abroad?

MTN's eSIM page describes activation at an MTN store by an agent. It does not describe a remote route; ask MTN whether a proxy swap can deliver an eSIM QR.

Is Glo eSIM free?

Glo says migration is free for a limited period, but you must buy a data plan of ₦1,500 or more at activation, as listed in October 2026.

Can someone in Nigeria do my SIM swap for me?

MTN allows a proxy SIM swap with your affidavit, ID, passport data page if abroad, proof of ownership and an indemnity letter. Glo has a proxy replacement form.

Will my Nigerian eSIM receive OTPs in Canada?

Only if it can roam on a Canadian network. An eSIM works like a SIM card for SMS; it does not remove the need for roaming.
