Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Is Mutual Trust Microfinance Bank legit and licensed?

We could not find an official website or app for Mutual Trust Microfinance Bank. How to check its CBN licence yourself before you deposit.

The short answer

We could not find an official website, app listing or published licence statement for a "Mutual Trust Microfinance Bank" in October 2026, so we cannot confirm its licence, ownership or location. Before depositing, look for the exact name on the CBN's list of supervised microfinance banks; if it is listed, deposits are NDIC-insured up to ₦2 million per depositor.

What we found, and what we did not

When we searched in October 2026, we found no website, app store listing, comparison-site profile or news report that we could tie to an institution called Mutual Trust Microfinance Bank. Search results instead returned pages for Mutual Benefits Microfinance Bank, which is a differently named institution. That is worth knowing in itself: names in Nigerian microfinance are often similar, and customers sometimes mix them up.

Not finding a website does not mean a bank is unlicensed. Nigeria has a large number of microfinance banks, and many small unit banks serve one town or market with a single office and no online presence. It does mean you have nothing public to rely on, and you should check the licence yourself before you hand over money.

How to check the licence

The CBN publishes the institutions it supervises, including microfinance banks, on its website. The lists can be exported to Excel; there is no search box on the page.

  1. Open the CBN's supervised financial institutions page and select the microfinance bank list.
  2. Export it and search for "Mutual Trust". Also search for "Mutual" alone, so you see every similarly named bank.
  3. Note the exact registered name and the location shown.
  4. Compare that name, letter for letter, with the name on the office signage, the account opening form and any account you are asked to pay into.
  5. If the name is not on the list, do not deposit. Ask the institution for its CBN licence number in writing and check again.

Our step-by-step guide, how to check if a bank or fintech is CBN-licensed, covers the same process for any institution.

What the licence type tells you

If you do find the bank, the list may show whether it is a unit, state or national microfinance bank. A unit bank may operate in one location, a state bank across one state, and a national bank in several states. That tells you how far the bank can serve you if you move. Our explainer on microfinance licence types sets out each category.

NDIC cover, if the bank is licensed

The NDIC says on its own site that deposits in any CBN-licensed bank are insured automatically, with no registration or fee. For microfinance banks the limit is ₦2 million per depositor, as the NDIC's managing director stated in March 2026, according to Voice of Nigeria. If an institution is not CBN-licensed, there is no NDIC cover at all.

Example: ₦600,000 in a licensed MFB
Fully covered if the bank fails.
Example: ₦600,000 with an unlicensed operator
No NDIC cover; recovery depends entirely on the operator or the courts.

Red flags to take seriously

  • The name on the office, the forms and the receiving account do not match exactly.
  • Staff cannot tell you the bank's licence category or head office address.
  • You are asked to pay into a personal account or a different company's account.
  • Savings or investment returns are promised that are far above what licensed banks advertise.
  • A loan is offered on condition you first pay a fee.
  • There is no written receipt for cash you hand over.

Any one of these is reason to pause. Several together are reason to walk away. If you think you have been dealt with by an unlicensed deposit-taker, you can raise it with the CBN; our guide on how to complain about a bank or fintech sets out how to write to its Consumer Protection Department.

Ask them where the office is and whether they have used it. A friend, cooperative or employer may know Mutual Trust as a local bank. That is useful, but it is not a licence check. Ask for the bank's written CBN details and confirm them on the CBN list before you open an account. If you meant Mutual Benefits Microfinance Bank, check that name on the list instead.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a bank. Naira deposits on Pryme are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit, and you can run the same CBN-list check on it. See how it works.

Questions people ask

Is Mutual Trust Microfinance Bank licensed by CBN?

We could not find a public licence statement for Mutual Trust Microfinance Bank in October 2026. Check the CBN's list of microfinance banks for the exact name before depositing.

Is Mutual Trust the same as Mutual Benefits Microfinance Bank?

No. They are different names. Search results for Mutual Trust returned Mutual Benefits pages, so make sure you know which institution you mean and check that exact name with the CBN.

How do I know if a microfinance bank is real?

Find its exact name on the CBN's supervised institutions list, check that the receiving account carries that name, and get a receipt for every deposit.

Is my money insured in a microfinance bank?

Yes, if the bank is CBN-licensed: the NDIC insures deposits up to ₦2 million per depositor at microfinance banks. Unlicensed operators have no NDIC cover.
