Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Is NPF Microfinance Bank NDIC-insured?

Yes: NPF Microfinance Bank Plc says it is insured by the NDIC and regulated by the CBN and SEC. What the ₦2m cover means for savings and fixed deposits.

The short answer

Yes. NPF Microfinance Bank Plc states on its own website that it is "Insured by NDIC" and "Regulated by CBN and SEC". Deposits in microfinance banks are covered by the NDIC up to ₦2 million per depositor, a limit raised from ₦200,000 in May 2024; shares you hold in the bank are an investment and are not covered.

What the bank itself says

NPF Microfinance Bank Plc, formerly NPF Community Bank Ltd, was incorporated on 19 May 1993. Its website carries two short regulatory statements: "Regulated by CBN and SEC" and "Insured by NDIC". The CBN supervises it as a microfinance bank. The SEC regulates it because it is a public company whose shares trade on the Nigerian Exchange. The NDIC insures its deposits.

The website does not show a licence number. If you want to confirm the licence independently, look for the bank's name on the CBN's list of supervised microfinance banks; our guide to checking a microfinance bank's licence walks through it.

How much of your money is covered

When the NDIC raised its coverage levels on 3 May 2024, the limit for microfinance banks went from ₦200,000 to ₦2 million per depositor. Commercial banks moved to ₦5 million. The NDIC's managing director restated the ₦2 million and ₦5 million levels in March 2026, according to Voice of Nigeria.

Institution typeNDIC cover per depositor (since May 2024)
Microfinance banks, including NPF MFB₦2,000,000
Commercial (deposit money) banks₦5,000,000
Primary mortgage banks₦2,000,000

The limit applies per depositor, so balances you hold in the same bank are looked at together rather than each account getting its own ₦2 million.

Worked example

Example only. An inspector keeps ₦900,000 in an NPF MFB savings account and ₦1,600,000 in a fixed deposit at the same bank, a total of ₦2,500,000. If the bank failed, ₦2,000,000 would be paid as insured deposits. The remaining ₦500,000 would rank as a claim in the liquidation, and how much of it came back would depend on what the liquidator recovered.

What NDIC cover does not include

  • Shares in NPF Microfinance Bank Plc. If you bought them on the NGX, they are an investment whose value can rise or fall; they are not deposits.
  • Unclaimed dividends, which are owed to you as a shareholder, not held as a deposit.
  • Money you lose to fraud, such as a transfer you were tricked into making. That is a matter for the bank's complaints process and the police, not deposit insurance.
  • Any loan you owe the bank. A failure does not cancel what you borrowed.

If a microfinance bank does fail

The NDIC handles payouts. When the CBN revoked the licences of 46 microfinance banks on 1 July 2026, Legit.ng reported that the NDIC began verifying depositors, paying insured sums directly into BVN-linked accounts at other banks, and asking depositors without a BVN link to come forward with proof of ownership, a valid ID, a passport photograph and their BVN. The NDIC's claims page lists the general documents: proof of deposit such as a passbook, cheque book, statement or fixed deposit certificate; a valid ID; a passport photograph; and details of an active account elsewhere.

Our explainer on what happens to your money when a licence is revoked covers the process step by step, and NDIC limits explained covers the rules for every kind of bank.

Should you keep more than ₦2 million there?

That is your judgement, and NDIC cover is one factor among several. Some depositors with larger sums spread them across more than one licensed bank so each balance stays within the limit. Others weigh the bank's published results; NPF MFB posts its annual reports and interim financial statements on its investor pages, and its website headline for the first half of 2026 reported pre-tax profit up 7.7% to ₦3.20 billion. A profitable half-year is not a guarantee, but it is public information you can read before you decide.

Common misunderstandings

  • Cover is set per depositor, so check with the NDIC how deposits at more than one bank are treated before you rely on spreading money for protection.
  • A police co-operative or welfare scheme being a shareholder does not add any extra protection for depositors; the NDIC limit is the same as at any other microfinance bank.
  • The older ₦200,000 figure still appears on some websites. It was replaced in May 2024.

When you open or top up a fixed deposit, ask the bank to confirm in writing that it is held as a deposit of NPF Microfinance Bank Plc itself.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a bank. Naira deposits on Pryme are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. Naira savings in Savings Boxes sit with the same bank.

Questions people ask

Is NPF Microfinance Bank insured by NDIC?

Yes. The bank's website says "Insured by NDIC". Deposits are covered up to ₦2 million per depositor, the limit for microfinance banks since May 2024.

How much does NDIC pay if NPF MFB fails?

Up to ₦2 million per depositor across your deposits at the bank. Anything above that depends on recoveries in the liquidation.

Are NPF MFB shares covered by NDIC?

No. Shares are an investment, not a deposit, so deposit insurance does not apply.

Is NPF Microfinance Bank licensed by CBN?

The bank says it is regulated by the CBN and the SEC. You can confirm its name on the CBN's microfinance bank list.
