Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Getting money from Nigeria for a Canadian emergency

When family in Nigeria needs to help with an urgent bill in Canada: the legal routes, which are quickest, and what slows each one down.

The short answer

The quickest legal routes are usually a direct payment by a relative's Nigerian dollar or naira card to the Canadian bill, within the card's international limit, or a same-day wire from their domiciliary account to your Canadian account. Under the CBN's FX Manual 2026, self-funded domiciliary holders can send up to USD 10,000 a day without Form A. Buying dollars with naira for a transfer takes longer because the bank needs an eligible purpose and documents.

An emergency in Canada is usually a bill: a hospital charge not covered by insurance, a tuition deadline, a deposit for a new flat after a fire, a lawyer's retainer. Family at home want to help today. The routes below are legal and documented; which one is fastest depends on what the sender already holds.

Route 1: pay the bill directly by card

If the Canadian creditor takes card payments online, a relative can pay with their Nigerian card. Banks set international limits for naira cards and dollar cards, and these have changed often. Nairametrics reported on 7 September 2026, for example, that GTBank's naira card quarterly limit had risen to USD 40,000, FirstBank's naira Mastercard was at USD 10,000 a quarter, and Zenith allowed up to USD 50,000 a year. Check the sender's own bank before relying on any figure.

Paying the creditor directly avoids a second step and leaves a receipt in the creditor's name. It fails when the card is declined by the merchant's fraud rules or when the sender has reached their limit.

Route 2: wire from a domiciliary account

A relative who already holds dollars can wire them. The CBN Foreign Exchange Manual 2026, effective 1 June 2026, removed Form A for outward transfers from self-funded domiciliary accounts and allows direct transfers of up to USD 10,000 a day, according to Pavestones Legal on Mondaq (24 June 2026). The sender needs your Canadian bank's SWIFT code, your account number and name exactly as the bank holds it, and ideally a US-dollar account at your end; see keeping USD in USD in Canada.

Wires usually take one to several business days, and intermediary banks may deduct fees. A transfer sent on Friday afternoon Lagos time will not move until Monday.

Route 3: buying dollars with naira

If the family only has naira, a bank can sell foreign currency for eligible purposes with documents. TheCable's summary of the FX Manual (3 June 2026) says tuition of up to USD 25,000 per semester can be paid directly to the institution, and maintenance of up to USD 5,000 a quarter to an off-campus student. For other purposes, ask the bank which it accepts and what it needs. This route is the slowest of the three; expect forms, an invoice, and days rather than hours.

What to avoid

  • Paying naira to someone in Lagos who promises dollars in Canada. If either side fails, there is no recourse and no record. See the risks of grey-market naira swaps.
  • Asking several relatives to send small amounts to stay under a threshold. Canadian banks report international transfers of $10,000 or more, including linked ones within 24 hours (FINTRAC guidance, 24 June 2024), and splitting looks worse than a single documented payment.
  • Moving cash in a traveller's luggage. CBSA requires a report for CAD 10,000 or more entering Canada.

Speeding things up on the Canadian side

  1. Ask the creditor for an invoice and whether it will hold the debt for a few days once you show a transfer is on its way.
  2. Give the sender your exact account name, number, transit and institution numbers and SWIFT code in writing.
  3. Tell your bank a large incoming wire is expected and why; it may ask anyway.
  4. Keep a note from the sender saying whether the money is a gift or a loan.
  5. Ask the creditor about a payment plan for any balance.

Worked example

Tunde's uninsured hospital bill is CAD 6,900. His sister in Lagos holds USD in a domiciliary account. At an example rate of CAD 1.38 per dollar, she needs USD 5,000. She wires USD 5,050 to allow for an example USD 50 intermediary deduction. It arrives on the second business day. Below CAD 10,000, it is not reportable on its own, but Tunde still keeps her note and the hospital invoice together.

Gift or loan: write it down

In an emergency nobody wants paperwork, but one line matters later. If the money is a gift, CRA's guidance treats most gifts as not taxable for the person receiving them. If it is a loan, both sides should note the amount and when it will be repaid, because a bank asking about a large incoming payment will want to know which it is, and family memories differ a year on. A WhatsApp message from the sender saying "this is a gift for the hospital bill" is better than nothing; a signed note is better still.

Where Pryme fits

Family with a Pryme Personal Account can hold US dollars ready for moments like this rather than buying them in a hurry, and see the rate and fee before they approve any Swap. For the reverse direction, see sending money to Nigeria for a family emergency. Open an account.

Questions people ask

What is the fastest way for family in Nigeria to send money to Canada?

Usually a direct card payment to the Canadian bill within the card's international limit, or a wire from a domiciliary account the sender already holds. Buying dollars with naira takes longer.

Do Nigerians need Form A to send dollars abroad?

Not from a self-funded domiciliary account under the CBN's FX Manual 2026, according to Pavestones Legal; transfers of up to USD 10,000 a day are allowed directly.

Can my parents pay my Canadian tuition from Nigeria?

Yes. TheCable's summary of the FX Manual says banks can pay tuition of up to USD 25,000 per semester directly to the institution, with documents.

Is it legal to use someone in Lagos to swap naira for Canadian dollars?

Informal swaps carry real risk of loss and leave no record. Use a bank or licensed provider.
