Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Family emergency in Nigeria: getting money there the same day

Which payout methods usually reach family in Nigeria fastest from Canada, the checks that slow a transfer down, and what to set up before you need it.

The short answer

For a same-day emergency, a naira transfer to a Nigerian bank account or mobile wallet is usually fastest once it reaches the Nigerian side, because the NIBSS Instant Payment system credits accounts in real time. What slows money down is mostly on the sending side: first-time identity checks, transaction reviews, limits for new accounts and name mismatches. A provider and recipient set up in advance remove most of those delays.

Why some transfers arrive in minutes and others take days

A transfer from Canada to Nigeria has three stages: you fund it, the provider clears it, and it is paid out in Nigeria. The payout leg is often the quickest. NIBSS describes its Instant Payment system as real-time, account-number-based, with the funds available to the recipient before settlement between banks, and with a name check before the money moves.

The funding and clearing legs are where time goes. Remitly's page for Canada to Nigeria, for example, says delivery times can vary because of transaction review and system availability, that limits depend on verification, delivery method and destination, and that additional documents may be requested.

Time zones matter too. Late evening in Toronto is early morning in Lagos, when banks are open and NIP is running, but a transfer flagged for review may wait until the provider's compliance team works through its queue. Starting early and having documents ready is the best protection.

Payout methods compared by how they work

Payout methodHow it worksWhat can slow it
Bank deposit (naira)Credited to a Nigerian bank account, often over NIP once the provider releases itWrong account number, name mismatch, bank downtime
Mobile walletCredited to a wallet such as a mobile money accountWallet not upgraded to a level that can receive the amount
Cash pickupCollected at an agent or bank with ID and a referenceAgent hours, ID not matching the name, cash availability
Bank wire (SWIFT)Through correspondent banksCut-off times, weekends, intermediary checks

Under a CBN circular of 24 March 2026, summarised by Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, licensed money transfer operators pay recipients in naira. If you want the family to receive dollars, that needs a different route, such as a bank wire to a domiciliary account, which is usually slower.

The checks that slow a transfer

  • First transfer with a new provider. Identity verification can take time. Do it before an emergency.
  • Larger than usual amounts. New accounts often have lower limits; an emergency hospital deposit may be above them.
  • Funding method. Remitly says its express option uses a debit or credit card where available, while bank account and Interac e-Transfer funding are named for its promotional rate. Card funding may cost more; see credit-card funded transfers.
  • Name mismatch. The recipient's name on the transfer should match the bank account. See name mismatches.
  • Review flags. Urgent, unusual transfers can be held for review. Answer requests for information quickly.

Set up before the emergency

  1. Choose one or two regulated providers and complete verification now.
  2. Add the main recipients, with account numbers checked against their names; see the details a Canadian sender needs.
  3. Send a small test amount to each.
  4. Agree with family who in Nigeria receives emergency money, and who pays the hospital or vendor directly.
  5. Keep a small naira buffer somewhere you can send from at once.

A labelled example

Example only. A sister calls from Benin City at 9pm Toronto time: their father needs a hospital deposit of ₦800,000 before admission. Chika already has a verified provider and her sister saved as a recipient. She funds the transfer, the provider clears it, and the naira bank deposit is credited to her sister's account; the sister pays the hospital by transfer and sends the receipt. Had Chika been signing up for the first time, verification alone could have taken longer than the hospital would wait.

Paying the bill directly

For hospital deposits, school emergencies or legal fees, paying the institution directly can be faster and leaves a clean record. Ask the relative on the spot for the hospital's account name and number, and if possible confirm them with the hospital's billing desk by phone. The name check on a naira transfer should show the hospital's name, not an individual's. Ask the hospital for a receipt in the patient's name. For planned treatment, see paying a Nigerian hospital from Canada.

What to check first

  • Is your provider account already verified, and what is your current sending limit?
  • Is the recipient saved, with the account name confirmed?
  • Can the money go straight to the hospital or vendor instead of through a person?
  • Is the request from someone you know, confirmed on a number you already have?
  • Have you checked the rate and fee on screen before approving?

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal account can be opened from Canada and verified in advance. If you keep a naira balance in it, you can send naira to a Nigerian bank account without converting at the moment of the emergency; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve any conversion.

Questions people ask

What is the fastest way to send money to Nigeria from Canada?

A naira deposit to a Nigerian bank account or wallet is often quickest once released, because NIP credits in real time. Delays usually come from verification and reviews on the sending side.

Why is my transfer to Nigeria under review?

Providers review transfers for compliance; Remitly says delivery can vary because of transaction review. Respond quickly to any document requests.

Can family in Nigeria receive dollars through a money transfer app?

Under the CBN circular of 24 March 2026, licensed transfer operators pay recipients in naira. Dollars usually need a bank wire to a domiciliary account.

Can I pay a Nigerian hospital directly from Canada?

Often yes, by transfer to the hospital's account. Confirm the account by phone and keep the receipt.
