Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to report a Nigeria transfer scam to the Anti-Fraud Centre

You sent money to Nigeria and it was a scam. How to report to police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, and what to ask the transfer provider first.

The short answer

Contact the provider you sent with immediately to try to stop the payout, then report to your local police and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, online at reportcyberandfraud.canada.ca or on 1-888-495-8501 (Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 16:45 ET), according to the CAFC's reporting page (modified November 2025). Gather the transfer reference, amounts, dates and every message from the scammer before you call.

Scams involving transfers to Nigeria take many forms: a "relative" in trouble on WhatsApp, a romance that turns to emergencies, a land deal that never existed, a job that asks you to forward money. Whatever the story, the steps after you realise are the same, and speed matters.

First: call the provider

If the transfer has not been paid out, the provider may still be able to stop it. Call or chat with support straight away and say clearly that you believe you are the victim of fraud.

  • Give the transfer reference, amount, date and recipient details.
  • Ask: has it been paid out? If not, can you stop it?
  • If it has been paid out, ask for the payout reference and the receiving bank or pickup location, and ask the provider to contact the receiving institution.
  • Ask for a case number and a written record of your report.
  • Ask whether your account or saved recipients should be blocked.

If you paid by card or from a Canadian bank account, tell your bank or card issuer as well.

Then: police and the CAFC

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre's reporting page says that if you have been a victim of fraud or cybercrime you should contact your local police as soon as possible, and that it is also recommended to report to the CAFC, whether you are a victim or not.

Online
reportcyberandfraud.canada.ca (you can report anonymously if you wish)
Phone
1-888-495-8501, Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 16:45 Eastern time, closed on holidays
Police
Your local police service; ask for an occurrence or file number

What to gather before you report

  1. Transfer confirmations: reference, amount in CAD and naira, date, recipient name and account.
  2. Screenshots of every message, with the sender's number, profile name and dates visible.
  3. Any documents the scammer sent: fake land papers, invoices, IDs, "customs" letters.
  4. Your bank or card statement lines for the payments.
  5. A short timeline in your own words: first contact, each payment, when you realised.

Keep this pack together. Police, the CAFC and the provider will each ask for parts of it. Our guide on keeping remittance receipts sets out what a useful record looks like.

If you were asked to receive or forward money

Some scams use victims as "money mules". The CAFC warns that being recruited to transfer stolen money is money laundering, a crime, and that recruits are often found through job offers (such as a "payment processor" or "financial officer" role), prizes or romance. If someone asked you to receive money and send it to Nigeria for them, stop, keep the records, and tell the police and the CAFC what happened.

Protecting yourself after the report

  • Change passwords on email, banking and the remittance app if you shared any details.
  • Turn on two-step verification with an authenticator app where offered.
  • Tell your bank if you shared card or account numbers, and ask about blocking the card.
  • Warn family members, especially if the scammer impersonated a relative.
  • Check your credit report with Equifax and TransUnion if you gave ID documents.

Realistic outcomes

Recovery is not guaranteed. Money that has been paid out to a Nigerian account and withdrawn is hard to retrieve. Reports still matter: they can help police link cases and can support a request by your provider to the receiving institution. Be very wary of anyone who contacts you offering to recover the money for a fee; that is a known follow-on scam.

Common patterns to recognise

  • A relative or friend messaging from a new number, asking for urgent money.
  • An online partner you have never met in person, with repeated emergencies.
  • A seller of land or a car in Nigeria who pushes for a deposit before you can verify title.
  • Last-minute "change of account details" for a payment you were already planning.
  • A caller claiming to be from a government agency demanding payment.

The Ledger's guide to money transfer scams targeting the diaspora covers these in more depth. If your transfer is simply stuck rather than stolen, see what to do when a transfer is delayed.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is a technology company, not a bank. Outside Nigeria, its activities are carried out through regulated partners, and Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. Pryme uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes and a transaction PIN; see security. On Pryme Send, nothing moves until you approve, and the app shows the rate and the fee first. If you think you have been scammed, contact Pryme through contact as well as the police and the CAFC.

Questions people ask

How do I report a scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre?

Online at reportcyberandfraud.canada.ca or by phone on 1-888-495-8501, Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 16:45 ET. Also contact your local police.

Can I get my money back after a scam transfer to Nigeria?

Sometimes, if the provider can stop the payout in time. Once the money has been paid out and withdrawn, recovery is difficult.

Should I report a scam even if I did not lose money?

Yes. The CAFC recommends reporting fraud whether you are a victim or not.

Someone offered to recover my lost money for a fee. Is it real?

Be very cautious. Recovery offers that ask for an upfront fee are a common follow-on scam.
