Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Cleva account restricted or verification stuck: fixes

Why a Cleva account, card or verification gets held, the fixes you can try yourself, what to send support and how to avoid a repeat.

The short answer

Most Cleva blocks come from incomplete or mismatched verification details, incoming payments that need review, or a card closed after repeated declines. Cleva says cards may be closed after 10 consecutive declines for insufficient funds. Check your details match your ID exactly, then contact support in the app with screenshots; do not pay anyone offering to remove a restriction.

First, work out what is actually blocked

"Restricted" can mean different things on a dollar account app. Identify which one you have, because the fix differs.

What you seeLikely causeWhere to start
Verification pending for daysDocuments unclear, details do not match, or a manual reviewRe-check details; contact support with your ID screenshots
Card not working or closedEmpty wallet, spending limit too low, or closure after repeated declinesCheck wallet balance and spending limit; see the decline rule
Incoming payment on holdSender or payment needs reviewGather proof of the work or reason for the payment
Cannot withdrawAccount under review or details changed recentlyContact support; do not repeat attempts
Cannot log inSecurity lock or device changeUse the app's recovery route

Verification stuck: what to check

  1. Your name, date of birth and other details must match your ID exactly, including the order of names and middle names.
  2. Photos must be sharp, in colour, with all four corners of the ID visible and no glare.
  3. A selfie or liveness check should be done in good light, without glasses, hats or filters.
  4. Your address, if asked, should match what you can prove.
  5. Do not open a second account to get round a stuck one; duplicate accounts are a common reason for further holds.

If everything matches and it is still pending, contact support through the app once, with screenshots, and wait for a reply. Repeated resubmissions can reset the queue.

Card closed or declining

Cleva's help article on its Classic USD card, dated 13 July 2026, sets out rules that explain most card problems:

  • The card spends directly from your USD wallet, so an empty wallet means a decline.
  • Each payment is limited to between $1 and $3,000, and you can change the limit under Cards, then More, then Spending limit.
  • "Cards may be closed after 10 consecutive declined transactions due to insufficient funds."
  • "A successful spend of $5 or more resets the decline counter after 24 hours."

Subscriptions are the usual trigger. A service retries a failed renewal several times, and each attempt counts. Cleva's pricing page says no fee is charged for a decline, but termination may follow repeated declines. If your card has been closed, you may be able to create another; Cleva allows up to 3 cards within 90 days, and each new card costs $3 to create, as at October 2026. Update the card details with every merchant afterwards.

Worked example: avoiding a closure (example only)

You have $4 in your wallet and three subscriptions renewing in the same week at $10, $15 and $8. If each retries three times, that is nine declines, one short of the closure point. Adding $40 before the renewals clears all three and keeps the counter at zero. The cost is three $0.80 authorisation fees, $2.40 in total.

Incoming payment or withdrawal held

Dollar apps review some incoming payments to meet anti-money laundering rules that apply to them and their partners. If a payment is held, support may ask what it is for. Have ready: the invoice or contract, the platform it came from, the sender's name and how it matches your work. Answer once, clearly, with documents. For freelancers, our guide to how freelancers in Nigeria receive dollars covers what records to keep.

What not to do

  • Do not pay anyone on social media who offers to "lift" or "verify" your account.
  • Do not share your PIN, password or one-time codes.
  • Do not lend your account to someone else to receive money; that is the fastest way to a permanent block.
  • Do not keep retrying a failed withdrawal; wait for support.

If support does not resolve the issue, see Cleva customer care and complaint route for how to escalate.

How to avoid a repeat

  • Keep your profile details matching your ID, and update them through the app if your address or phone number changes.
  • Receive money only for your own work or from people you know, and keep the invoice or reason for each payment.
  • Keep a small buffer in the wallet so card payments and subscriptions do not decline.
  • Use one account per person and one device you control, with the app's security settings turned on.
  • Respond promptly when support asks for information; unanswered requests often lead to longer holds.

Most restrictions are lifted once the platform has what it needs. A calm, complete reply with documents is the quickest way back to a working account.

Where Pryme fits

Any regulated account can hold a payment for review; it is worth having a second place to receive money. A Pryme account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details, and account protection is set out on our security page.

Questions people ask

Why is my Cleva verification taking long?

Usually because details do not match your ID exactly, photos are unclear, or the account is in manual review. Check your details, then contact support once with screenshots.

Why was my Cleva card terminated?

Cleva says cards may be closed after 10 consecutive declines for insufficient funds. Keep the wallet funded before subscription renewals.

Can I create a new Cleva card after closure?

Cleva allows up to 3 cards within 90 days, at $3 each to create as at October 2026. Update the card with your merchants afterwards.

How do I unblock my Cleva account?

Contact support through the app, answer any questions about payments with documents, and do not pay third parties offering to unblock it.
