Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Cleva fees: receiving, converting and withdrawing

What Cleva says it charges to receive dollars, convert to naira and pay out to a Nigerian bank, with dates, sources and the gaps to check.

The short answer

Cleva's help centre (4 August 2026) says Upwork deposits into a Cleva USD account cost $0 and stablecoin deposits cost a flat $2, or $1 when the payment is under $2; ACH and FedNow deposit fees are shown in its pricing calculator. Cleva's own March 2026 blog said it adds no markup when converting to naira, charges nothing to pay out to a Nigerian bank and charges $3 to create a virtual card. Confirm each figure in the app before you rely on it.

Cleva is a dollar-account app used by many Nigerian freelancers and remote workers. Its fees fall into three places: when money lands in your account, when you convert it to naira, and when you send the naira to a local bank. Cleva publishes some of these on its help centre and blog, but not all in one place, and the deposit prices changed in August 2026. This page sets out what Cleva's own pages say, with the date of each, and what you still need to confirm in the app.

Receiving: deposit fees and the August 2026 change

In March 2026 Cleva's blog described a two-step deposit fee: $1 for deposits below $300 and $3 for deposits above $300. On 4 August 2026 Cleva's help centre announced new pricing for ACH, FedNow and stablecoin deposits, applying to all users from 7 August 2026. The help article does not print the new ACH and FedNow amounts; it sends readers to the pricing calculator at getcleva.com/pricing. Treat the March figures as history, not as today's price.

Two points from the August update are clear. Upwork deposits stay at $0, and stablecoin deposits cost a flat $2 whatever the size, or $1 where the payment itself is under $2. Cleva also says the fee depends only on the deposit amount, not on exchange-rate movements. Its deposit policy page adds a $10 minimum for each stablecoin deposit.

Limits matter as much as fees. A deposit above your daily limit can be rejected, which costs you time and sometimes a return charge from the sender's side. Cleva's limits page (29 August 2026) sets daily caps by tier, starting at $5,000 for individuals, and a separate $1,000 a day for third-party transfers from personal US bank accounts.

Converting: where the real cost sits

Cleva's March 2026 blog said it charges no conversion markup when you change dollars to naira. Even so, the rate you are shown is the number that decides how many naira you get, so compare it with a reference rate at the same moment before you confirm. Our guide on whether to convert now or wait covers the timing question.

Worked example (illustrative figures only)

Say an Upwork client pays you $1,000. The deposit fee is $0 under Cleva's August 2026 pricing. Suppose the app quotes ₦1,480 per dollar while a reference rate you trust shows ₦1,500 at the same minute. These rates are invented for the example; check today's figure in the app.

  • Naira received: $1,000 × ₦1,480 = ₦1,480,000
  • Naira at the reference rate: $1,000 × ₦1,500 = ₦1,500,000
  • Gap: ₦20,000, which is about 1.33% of ₦1,500,000
  • Payout fee to your Nigerian bank: none, per Cleva's March 2026 blog

The gap in a quote is the true price of converting, whatever an app calls its fee. Writing down both numbers each time you convert tells you whether the service still suits you.

Paying out and the card

Cleva's blog said naira payouts to Nigerian banks carry no charge. Its terms of service (updated 12 October 2026) say processing times are estimates only and depend on the payout method, the receiving bank and compliance checks. For the card, the only published figure we found is the $3 creation fee in the March blog; funding, foreign transaction and decline charges were not on the pages we checked, so open the card screen in the app before you pay for anything.

What to check first

  1. Open the pricing calculator or the deposit screen and note the fee for your usual payment size and method.
  2. Confirm your tier and daily limit so a large payment is not rejected.
  3. Before converting, compare the quoted rate with a reference rate at the same time.
  4. Check the card fee screen for funding and decline charges before using the card for subscriptions.
  5. Screenshot the fee screen; it is your record if a charge differs later.

Where Pryme fits

If you want dollars and naira side by side, a Pryme Personal Account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details for each, and money stays in the currency it arrived in. Swap shows the rate first and the fee on its own line, and nothing converts until you approve. See multicurrency accounts for the details.

Questions people ask

How much does Cleva charge to receive money from Upwork?

Does Cleva charge to withdraw to my Nigerian bank account?

Cleva's blog of 18 March 2026 said naira payouts to Nigerian banks carry no charge. The rate you get when converting still decides how many naira you receive.

What is Cleva's fee for USDT deposits?

A flat $2 per stablecoin deposit, or $1 if the payment is under $2, according to the 4 August 2026 help article. The minimum stablecoin deposit is $10.

How much is the Cleva virtual card?

Cleva's March 2026 blog put card creation at $3. Other card charges were not published on the pages we checked, so look at the card screen in the app.
