Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Cleva dollar card: fees, limits and where it works

Cleva Classic USD card costs from Cleva's own pricing and help pages: $3 to create, $0.80 per transaction, 2% plus $0.80 abroad, $3,000 per payment.

The short answer

Cleva's Classic USD card cost $3 to create and $0.80 per transaction, with 2% plus $0.80 on non-US websites and a $50 charge to open a dispute, according to Cleva's pricing page in October 2026. It spends directly from your Cleva USD wallet, can be used globally, and allows $1 to $3,000 per transaction; Cleva says cards may be closed after 10 consecutive declines for insufficient funds.

What the Cleva card is

Cleva is a dollar account app used by Nigerians who earn or hold US dollars. Its Classic USD card is a card linked to your Cleva USD wallet, so there is no separate card balance to top up: payments come straight out of the wallet. Cleva's help article on the Classic card, dated 13 July 2026, says the card "can be used globally" and that the billing address you choose does not affect where it works.

Fees, as Cleva publishes them

These are from Cleva's card pricing page, as at October 2026. The page itself carries no date, so check it, or the card screen in the app, before relying on any figure.

FeeAmountNotes
Card creation$3One-off when you create the card
Authorisation$0.80On every card transaction
Funding$0The card draws from your USD wallet
Decline$0Repeated declines for insufficient balance can lead to termination
International transaction2% + $0.80For use on non-US websites
Dispute$50When you open a card dispute

Worked example: three payments in a month (example only)

Suppose you pay a $20 subscription to a US company, a $15 app purchase from a US store and $100 to a website based outside the US.

  • US $20: $20 + $0.80 = $20.80.
  • US $15: $15 + $0.80 = $15.80.
  • Non-US $100: 2% of $100 is $2, plus $0.80, so $102.80.
  • Total paid: $139.40 for $135 of purchases, or $4.40 in card charges.

Cleva's page lists the international fee as "2% + $0.80". We have read the $0.80 there as the same authorisation fee, not an extra one; if both applied, the non-US payment would cost $103.60. Check a recent card transaction in your app history to see exactly what was charged.

Limits and rules

Per transaction
Minimum $1, maximum $3,000. You can adjust it under Cards, then More, then Spending limit.
Cards per period
Up to 3 cards within 90 days.
Billing address
Your Nigerian address from your verified details, or a US address provided by Cleva.
Decline rule
Cards may be closed after 10 consecutive declined transactions for insufficient funds. A successful spend of $5 or more resets the counter after 24 hours.

The decline rule matters for subscriptions. If a monthly charge tries to take payment while your wallet is empty, it can retry several times. Each failed attempt counts towards the 10. Keep enough in the wallet before renewal dates, or cancel subscriptions you no longer use.

Where it works, and where to be careful

Cleva says the card works globally. In practice, any card can be refused by a particular merchant for reasons of its own, such as a mismatch between the billing address on file and the one you type at checkout, or a merchant's rules on cards issued in another country. Before paying anything large:

  1. Choose the billing address you will use consistently, and enter it exactly at checkout.
  2. Test with a small payment of a few dollars, accepting the $0.80 authorisation fee.
  3. Check whether the merchant is US-based or not, as the fee differs.
  4. Keep the wallet funded above the amount, so a decline does not count against you.

Because each payment carries $0.80, the card is cheaper per dollar for larger, less frequent payments than for many tiny ones. Ten $2 purchases cost $8 in authorisation fees, which is 40% on top; one $20 purchase costs $0.80.

How to get the card

You need a verified Cleva account with a USD wallet. Create the card in the app's cards section, choose the billing address and pay the $3 creation fee. If you have not opened a Cleva account yet, see how to open a Cleva USD account; for the wider fee picture, Cleva fees. Problems with a closed or blocked card are covered in Cleva account restricted or verification stuck.

Is it the right card for you?

A linked wallet card suits people who already hold dollars on Cleva, for example freelancers paid in USD, and who want to pay foreign services without converting to naira and back. It is less suited to many small daily purchases, because the $0.80 per transaction adds up quickly, and it is not a credit card: there is no borrowing, and a payment larger than your wallet balance will decline.

  • Good fit: monthly software subscriptions, online courses, ad spend and travel bookings paid in dollars.
  • Weaker fit: very small, frequent payments where the fixed fee is a large share.
  • Plan around: non-US merchants, where the 2% charge applies on top of the fixed amount.

If you mostly spend in naira, compare the cost of converting your dollars and using a naira card against the card fees above for the same payment.

Where Pryme fits

If you hold dollars and want to decide when to turn them into naira, a Pryme account keeps USD in dollars alongside NGN, GBP and EUR, and Swap shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

How much is Cleva card creation fee?

$3, according to Cleva's card pricing page in October 2026.

Does Cleva charge per transaction?

Yes. Cleva lists a $0.80 authorisation fee on every card transaction, and 2% + $0.80 for non-US websites.

What is the Cleva card limit?

Cleva's help centre gives a per-transaction minimum of $1 and maximum of $3,000, adjustable in the app.

Why was my Cleva card closed?

Cleva says cards may be closed after 10 consecutive declines for insufficient funds. Keep the wallet funded before subscriptions renew.
