Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buying land in Ibadan from the US: Oyo title checks

The title checks a US-based buyer should run before paying for land in Ibadan: the Oyo lands ministry, survey charting, family signatories and consent.

The short answer

Before paying for land in Ibadan, have a lawyer search the title with the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development at the Secretariat in Ibadan, have a surveyor chart the plot, and confirm who has authority to sell. After purchase, the transfer needs the Governor's consent under the Land Use Act. The ministry's website does not publish search fees or an online portal, so confirm current steps directly.

Ibadan land is popular with Nigerians abroad for family homes, retirement plans and rental property, and prices are lower than in Lagos. The risks are similar: family land sold more than once, plots inside government schemes, and buyers who never perfect their title. What is different is the information available online. The Oyo lands ministry's website gives an address and mandate but not a public search procedure, so the work has to be done in person by someone you trust.

The authority you deal with

Land matters in Oyo sit with the Ministry of Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, whose website gives its address as the Secretariat, Ibadan, opening hours of Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.00pm, and links to the Office of the Surveyor General. One of the ministry's stated objectives is "to create reliable and comprehensive records of all interests in land in Oyo State", and another is revenue from land transactions. The site does not list search fees, document requirements or an online search portal (checked October 2026), so ask your lawyer to confirm the current process and charges at the ministry before you budget.

What the law requires

The Land Use Act vests land in each state in the Governor. Section 22 says the holder of a statutory right of occupancy may not alienate it without the Governor's consent first had, and section 21 covers customary rights. Section 26 makes transactions contrary to the Act null and void. In practice that means the deed you sign is not the end: your interest is only secure once consent is obtained and the deed is registered. See registering a deed of assignment from the US.

Steps before you pay

  1. Instruct your own lawyer in Ibadan. Agree the fee and scope in writing: search, survey check, document review, drafting, consent application.
  2. Get the documents from the seller. A 2024 Mondaq article lists the core set: Certificate of Occupancy where one exists, deed of assignment, survey plan, Governor's consent for earlier transfers, and receipts.
  3. Search at the ministry. Your lawyer applies to search the file and checks the registered owner, any mortgages or caveats, and whether the land sits in a government scheme or acquisition.
  4. Chart the survey. A registered surveyor checks the survey plan coordinates with the Surveyor General's office, to confirm the plot is where the seller says and is not inside government land.
  5. Confirm the seller's authority. For family land, in general customary practice expects the family head and principal members to authorise a sale; your lawyer should confirm who must sign and look for court cases.
  6. Visit the site. A relative or agent you trust should check for other claimants, structures, beacons and neighbours' accounts of who owns the land.

Warning signs specific to buying from a distance

  • A seller or agent who pushes you to pay before the search report is back.
  • Survey plans that are photocopies with no registered number, or coordinates your surveyor cannot trace.
  • Several "family representatives" giving different accounts of who owns the land.
  • A price well below what nearby plots sell for, with a reason why it must close this week.
  • Requests to pay into a personal account rather than the seller's own, or into several accounts.

Buying from abroad: signing and attorneys

You do not have to fly home to sign. Many buyers appoint a trusted person in Nigeria under a power of attorney; see using a power of attorney to buy land. Affidavits sworn in the US can be used in Nigerian courts: section 110 of the Evidence Act 2011 recognises affidavits sworn outside Nigeria before a judge or magistrate authenticated by a court seal or a notary public, or before an authorised officer at a Nigerian embassy, high commission or consulate.

Costs to budget for

Beyond the price of the land, expect your lawyer's fee, the search fee, the surveyor's charting fee, the fees the ministry assesses for consent and registration, and any stamp duty on the deed. None of these figures is published on the ministry's website, so ask your lawyer for a written estimate of each before you commit, and keep money aside for them; an unperfected title is the most common gap.

After you pay

  • Apply for Governor's consent to the transfer and pay the fees the ministry assesses.
  • Register the deed so your interest appears on the record.
  • Fence or mark the plot and keep photos; occupation helps if your title is challenged.
  • Keep every receipt, the survey, the search report and the consent together, with copies abroad.

If problems arise later, read land disputes for owners living abroad. Similar checks for Lagos are in buying land in Lagos from the US.

Where Pryme fits

Land disputes often turn on proof of payment. Pryme customers can generate verifiable receipts and statements through VerifyDoc.ai, so a payment record can be checked as genuine and unaltered. See verifiable receipts.

Questions people ask

Where do I do a land search in Ibadan?

Through the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development at the Secretariat, Ibadan. Its website does not publish a search procedure, so have a lawyer confirm current steps and fees.

Do I need Governor's consent for land in Oyo State?

Yes, for transfer of a statutory right of occupancy. Section 22 of the Land Use Act requires consent first, and section 26 voids transactions contrary to the Act.

Can I buy land in Ibadan without travelling from the US?

Yes. You can appoint an attorney in Nigeria, and affidavits sworn before a US notary public or at a Nigerian mission are recognised under section 110 of the Evidence Act.

What documents should an Ibadan land seller show?

Typically a C of O if one exists, the deed of assignment, survey plan, consent for earlier transfers and receipts, which your lawyer then verifies at the ministry.
