Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Using a power of attorney to buy land in Nigeria from the US

What a power of attorney must say for a relative to buy Nigerian land for you, how to sign it in the US, and the steps it needs in Nigeria.

The short answer

A power of attorney for buying Nigerian land should name you and your attorney exactly, describe the plot (location, survey plan number, size), and expressly allow the attorney to pay, sign the deed of assignment in your name, apply for Governor's consent and register the title, and nothing wider than that. Sign it before a US notary and take it through state certification, US State Department authentication and the Nigerian mission, then have it stamped in Nigeria. The title should still be registered in your name, not the attorney's.

Buying land from the US often means someone in Nigeria has to sign documents, collect originals and stand in front of officials. A power of attorney gives them that authority. Drafted carelessly, it can also give them authority to sell, mortgage or transfer the land to themselves. The goal is a document wide enough to complete the purchase and narrow enough that it cannot be used for anything else.

What the power must cover for a purchase

Ask your Nigerian lawyer to draft it for the specific plot. A purchase power typically lists:

  • Parties. Your full name as on your passport, your US address, and the attorney's full name, address and ID number.
  • The land. State, local government area, town, plot or survey plan number, size, and the seller's name.
  • Acts allowed. Conduct searches, instruct a surveyor, negotiate within a price you set, pay from funds you provide, sign the deed of assignment and receipts in your name, apply for Governor's consent, pay stamp duty and registration fees, and collect the registered documents.
  • Acts excluded. No power to sell, lease, mortgage or give away the land, and no power to accept the title in the attorney's own name.
  • Duration. A fixed end date, or until the title is registered, whichever comes first.
  • Revocation. A statement that you may revoke it in writing.

If you later want to sell, that needs a different, sale-specific document; the requirements are in what a power of attorney for a land sale requires.

The power of attorney does not replace the purchase steps. Section 22 of the Land Use Act requires the Governor's consent before a statutory right of occupancy is transferred "by assignment, mortgage, transfer of possession, sublease or otherwise howsoever", and section 26 voids transactions contrary to the Act. The deed of assignment from the seller to you is the document that gets consent; your attorney signs it on your behalf, using the power. Legal500's summary of Lagos practice describes stamping within 30 days of execution and registration of registrable instruments within 60 days; other states have their own rules, so ask your lawyer for the local timetable.

Signing it in the US

  1. Sign before a notary public in your state, with your passport as ID. Do not sign in advance.
  2. Have the notary's signature certified by your state's Secretary of State (or equivalent office).
  3. Send it to the US Department of State Office of Authentications. Its services page lists a $20 non-refundable fee per document and form DS-4194, which names the country where the document will be used.
  4. Take or send it to the Nigerian embassy or consulate that covers your state for authentication. The Consulate General in Atlanta's published charge notice lists document authentication at $30 per document (notice dated 27 July 2021); check the current fee with your mission.

This chain exists because Nigeria does not appear on the HCCH Apostille Convention status table, last updated 30 June 2026, so a state apostille alone is often not what a Nigerian registry expects. The full routine is in making a Nigerian power of attorney valid from the US.

In Nigeria: stamping and, often, registration

Once the authenticated original arrives, your lawyer has it stamped. A 2026 review of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 notes that unstamped instruments are not admissible in civil proceedings, so an unstamped power may fail you exactly when you need it. Where the power deals with land, many state registries also expect it to be registered before they act on it. Ask your lawyer whether that applies in the state concerned.

Choosing the attorney and limiting risk

  • Choose someone with no interest in the land and no debts they might settle with it.
  • Fund each payment separately, after you see the signed document it pays for, instead of sending the full price in advance.
  • Ask for scanned copies of every document the attorney signs, on the day.
  • Insist the registered title is in your name; check the certified copy yourself.
  • Revoke the power in writing, and tell the registry through your lawyer, once the purchase is done.

Example: payment control

Example only. Plot price ₦15,000,000. Instead of sending your attorney ₦15,000,000, you pay the lawyer's search fee first, then ₦15,000,000 directly to the seller's account on the day the deed is signed, then consent and stamping fees against the lawyer's invoice. The attorney never holds the purchase money.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Personal Account you can keep dollars and naira in your own name and pay the seller, lawyer and registry fees directly with Send, rather than routing money through your attorney. The app shows the rate and fee before you approve a Swap, and each payment can carry a verifiable receipt from VerifyDoc.ai.

Questions people ask

Can my brother buy land in Nigeria for me with a power of attorney?

Yes, if the power expressly lets him sign the deed and handle consent and registration in your name. Keep it limited to that plot and make sure the title is registered to you.

Do I need an apostille on a power of attorney for Nigeria?

Nigeria is not on the HCCH Apostille Convention status table, so the usual route is notary, state certification, US State Department authentication ($20 per document) and then the Nigerian embassy or consulate.

Does a power of attorney transfer land ownership?

No. It only lets the attorney act for you. Ownership moves through the deed of assignment, Governor's consent under the Land Use Act, stamping and registration.

How do I cancel a power of attorney given for Nigerian land?

Revoke it in writing, notify the attorney, and have your lawyer inform the registry where it was registered. A fixed end date in the document also limits how long it can be used.
