Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Signing a Nigerian power of attorney in the US: making it valid

How to sign a power of attorney in the US so it works in Nigeria: notary, state and federal authentication, the Nigerian mission, then steps at home.

The short answer

A power of attorney signed in the US for use in Nigeria is usually signed before a US notary, then authenticated up a chain (state, often the US Department of State at $20 per document, then a Nigerian embassy or consulate) because Nigeria is not a party to the Apostille Convention. Once it reaches Nigeria, the person relying on it, such as a land registry or bank, may require stamping or registration under Nigerian law before acting.

A power of attorney lets someone in Nigeria act for you: sell or let land, collect documents, deal with a bank or manage a family property. Signed in Houston or Newark, it is only useful if the Nigerian office it is shown to accepts it. That depends less on the wording than on the chain of signatures and seals behind it. This is information, not legal advice; for land or large sums, a Nigerian lawyer should draft or review the document.

Why an apostille is not enough

Most countries accept a US apostille. Nigeria is not on that list: a July 2026 review of the Apostille Convention names only 17 African states as parties, and Nigeria is not among them. Nigerian practice, as a 2020 Nigerian legal guide describes it, works through notarisation and authentication by foreign affairs offices and embassies instead. So a document from the US normally ends with a stamp from a Nigerian mission, not an apostille. Our explainer Does Nigeria accept apostilles from the US? covers the background.

The usual chain, step by step

  1. Draft it for Nigerian use. Name the donee (the person who will act) with their Nigerian ID, describe the property or accounts precisely, and state the powers. Vague powers are a common reason a registry or bank refuses.
  2. Sign before a US notary. Sign only in front of the notary, with your ID. Do not sign in advance.
  3. State certification. Your state's Secretary of State (or equivalent office) certifies the notary's commission. Some states first want a county clerk to certify the notary, so check your state's page before posting anything.
  4. US Department of State authentication. The federal Office of Authentications charges a nonrefundable $20 per document, asks for Form DS-4194 naming the country of use, and says mailed requests are processed within five weeks.
  5. Nigerian mission. The embassy in Washington DC or a consulate (Atlanta, New York) authenticates the US seals. The Atlanta consulate's published charge is $30 per document (notice dated July 2021).
  6. Send the original to Nigeria by tracked courier. Keep certified copies.

What happens when it arrives in Nigeria

Authentication proves the signatures and seals are genuine. It does not make every office accept the document. Each one applies its own rules:

  • Land. State land agencies register powers of attorney over land. Akwa Ibom's AkwaGIS, for example, lists power of attorney registration as its own multi-step service. Your donee should ask the state land registry what it needs before you sign.
  • Stamp duty. The Nigeria Tax Act 2025, effective 1 January 2026, repealed the Stamp Duties Act and consolidated stamp duties into the new law. How it treats a power of attorney signed abroad is a point to confirm with a Nigerian lawyer or the tax authority; we could not confirm the current rule from an official page.
  • Banks. Nigerian banks may have their own mandate forms and may ask for their own wording, or refuse a general power for account operations. Ask the bank first.

Example only: one power of attorney taken through a state fee of $10 (your state's figure may differ), the federal $20 and the Atlanta consulate's $30 costs $60 in official fees before notary, postage and courier.

Choosing the donee and limiting the power

A power of attorney is only as safe as the person holding it. Two choices reduce the risk without making the document useless.

  • Specific rather than general. A power limited to "let and collect rent on the property at [address], and pay it into account [number]" is easier for a registry or tenant to rely on, and harder to misuse, than a power to "manage all my affairs".
  • An end date. State when the power expires, or tie it to a task such as completing one sale. You can sign a fresh one later.
  • Revocation. If you revoke it, tell the donee and every office that has seen it, in writing, and keep proof that they received the notice.

Where money changes hands, ask for payments into an account in your own name rather than the donee's, so the record stays with you.

Mistakes that send it back

  • Signing before the notary appointment, or using a remote online notary without first checking the Nigerian mission accepts it.
  • Leaving out the donee's full name exactly as on their Nigerian ID.
  • Describing land without the survey plan number or title reference.
  • Sending a photocopy. Registries and banks want the authenticated original.

Where Pryme fits

If your donee is handling money for you, a Pryme account opened from the US lets you send naira to them directly and keep verifiable receipts, generated with VerifyDoc.ai, as a record of what you paid.

Questions people ask

Can I sign a Nigerian power of attorney in America?

Yes. It is usually signed before a US notary and then authenticated by the state, often the US Department of State, and a Nigerian embassy or consulate, because Nigeria does not use the apostille system.

Does a power of attorney from the US need an apostille for Nigeria?

Nigeria is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is not the usual route. Consular authentication by a Nigerian mission is.

How much does it cost to authenticate a power of attorney for Nigeria?

Official fees we found: $20 per document at the US Department of State and $30 per document at the Nigerian consulate in Atlanta (notice dated July 2021). State fees vary.

Does a power of attorney need to be stamped in Nigeria?

Stamp duties now sit under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025. Ask a Nigerian lawyer or the office relying on the document what it needs; land registries also register powers over land.
