Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Registering a deed of assignment from the US

The order of steps to get a Nigerian deed of assignment signed in the US, authenticated, consented, stamped and registered, and the costs to budget for.

The short answer

To register a deed of assignment while you live in the US, sign it before a US notary, take it through state certification, the US State Department ($20 per document) and the Nigerian mission, then send it to your lawyer for Governor's consent, stamping and registration in the state where the land is. Under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, instruments are to be stamped within 30 days of execution, and Lagos practice is to register within 60 days, so plan the chain so the deed reaches Nigeria quickly.

A deed of assignment transfers the seller's interest in land to you. Until it is consented, stamped and registered, you hold only an equitable interest, which, as Legal500's note on Lagos explains, can lose priority to a later buyer who registers. Signing in the US adds a chain of certifications before the Nigerian steps begin. This guide sets out the order and the costs we could source. It is information, not legal advice.

Step one: signing in the US

  1. Draft in Nigeria. Your lawyer drafts the deed to match the state's requirements and sends it for signature.
  2. Sign before a notary. Sign in your name exactly as on your ID and the earlier documents.
  3. State certification. The notary's signature is certified by the state, as each state's Secretary of State explains; see the Maryland example.
  4. US Department of State. The Office of Authentications charges $20 per document, uses Form DS-4194, and lists up to five weeks by mail.
  5. Nigerian mission. The embassy or consulate for your state authenticates. The Consulate General in Atlanta's notice of 27 July 2021 lists $30 per document for authentication; check your mission's current fee. See authenticating US documents at a Nigerian mission.

If you are the seller rather than the buyer, the same chain applies to your signature, and a buyer's lawyer will check it; see powers of attorney for a land sale.

Step two: the Nigerian steps

StageWhat happensRule we could source
Governor's consentApplication to the state for consent to the assignmentLand Use Act s.22: consent "first had and obtained"; s.26 makes contrary transactions void
StampingDuty assessed and paid; deed stampedNigeria Tax Act 2025: stamp within 30 days of execution; unstamped instruments inadmissible in civil proceedings (per Odubunmi, 2026)
RegistrationDeed entered in the state land registryLagos: within 60 days of execution under the Lands Registration Law 2015 (Legal500)

Legal500 notes that in Lagos consent comes first and stamping before consent risks wasted cost if consent is refused, yet the stamping clock runs from execution. Odubunmi's April 2026 article notes the Tax Act is silent on instruments executed abroad. Ask your lawyer how they handle the timing for a deed signed in the US and authenticated weeks later; many lawyers time the US signature so the deed reaches Nigeria promptly.

Costs to budget for

  • US side: notary, state certification fee (varies by state), $20 State Department fee per document, mission fee, and courier both ways.
  • Consent fee: set by the state; Lagos says it has reduced consent, stamp duty and registration fees but we found no published amounts.
  • Stamp duty: Odubunmi's reading of the 2025 Act is 1.5% for an irrevocable assignment on sale, paid by the transferee, with conveyances on sale up to ₦10 million exempt. Confirm with your lawyer which item applies to your deed.
  • Registration fees and your lawyer's professional fee.

A worked example

Example only. Ibrahim in Philadelphia buys land in Lagos for ₦20,000,000. If his lawyer confirms the 1.5% rate applies, stamp duty is ₦20,000,000 × 1.5% = ₦300,000. On the US side he pays $20 at the State Department and his consulate's authentication fee, plus courier. He signs on a Monday, uses the State Department walk-in route in Washington DC to save the mail time, and the authenticated deed reaches Lagos about three weeks after signing, leaving his lawyer time to stamp and register within the deadlines. Consent and registration fees come on top.

Mistakes that delay registration

  • Names on the deed that do not match your passport or the earlier documents; explain any change with marriage or change-of-name papers.
  • A survey plan that does not match the land described in the deed.
  • Missing tax clearance for the consent application, which Lagos asks for from both parties.
  • Signing before the lawyer has confirmed the seller's title, so the deed is drafted on wrong particulars.
  • Posting the only original by ordinary mail. Use a tracked courier and keep certified copies.
  • Leaving the authenticated deed with a relative for weeks before it reaches the lawyer, which eats into the stamping and registration time.

Other states

States run their own registries. Akwa Ibom's AkwaGIS processes C of O applications and power of attorney registration online with electronic payment only; Edo registers through EdoGIS. Ask your lawyer for the state's current checklist.

Where Pryme fits

Consent fees, stamp duty and registration fees are paid in naira. A Pryme account opened from the US holds naira and dollars so you or your lawyer can pay official invoices directly; Swap shows the rate and fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Can I sign a Nigerian deed of assignment in the US?
