Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Make money

Block industry site, water and state permits

Choosing a site for a block industry in Nigeria: road access, curing space, borehole water, CAC, state planning and environmental permits, LG levies.

The short answer

A block industry needs a site with tipper access, curing space and a reliable water source, usually a borehole, plus CAC registration, state planning and environmental approval, and local government permits and levies. Requirements differ by state, so ask the state planning, environment and water offices for their lists before you build; a CAC business name costs ₦20,000.

Choosing a site

A block industry needs more space than most people expect: room for sand heaps, a cement store, the moulding area, rows of curing blocks and trucks turning in and out. The best sites sit close to building activity, where estates and new houses are going up, and on a road a loaded tipper can use in the rainy season.

What to checkWhy it matters
Road access for tippers and trucksSand in and blocks out; a bad road raises every delivery cost
Space for curingBlocks must stay wet and undisturbed for days before sale
Distance to building sitesDelivery is part of the price; nearby buyers cut transport
Land use and neighboursMachine noise and dust in a residential street invite complaints and closure
DrainageWaterlogged yards damage stock and slow work
SecurityCement and blocks are easy to steal; you need fencing or a guard

Lease terms matter: get a written lease that permits industrial use and lasts long enough to recover the cost of a borehole, shed and fencing.

Water and the borehole

Blocks use water twice: in the mix and during curing, when they are sprayed for several days. Buying water by tanker gets expensive at any real volume, so most block industries sink a borehole. Before drilling, ask your state water resources ministry or agency whether a permit or licence is needed for a borehole on commercial premises, and use a registered driller who gives you a written report. Store water in tanks so a pump breakdown does not stop production. Water quality matters too: salty or dirty water weakens blocks.

State and local government permits

Requirements differ by state and local government, so make a list with each office before you build. The usual ones are:

  1. Business registration with the CAC. A business name costs ₦20,000 and a private company is ₦10,000 per ₦1 million of share capital under the May 2025 fee schedule; the CAC service charter targets 24 hours for registering a business name.
  2. Land use or planning approval from the state physical planning authority, especially if you build a shed, office or fence.
  3. Environmental approval from the state environmental agency.
  4. Local government trade permit, signage and levy payments, collected by the LG where the site sits.
  5. Fire safety advice from the state fire service if you store diesel or run a generator.

What environmental agencies tend to ask for

Agencies publish checklists by business type. LASEPA's checklist for restaurants, bars and clubs, for example, asks for an environmental audit or impact assessment and management plan, an annual Environmental Development Charge, accredited waste collection and quarterly water analysis at the agency's laboratory. A block industry falls under a different category, but expect similar questions on dust, noise, waste concrete and water. Ask your state agency for the checklist that applies to block moulding and get receipts for every payment.

Environmental rules in practice

  • Control dust: wet sand heaps, cover cement, and give workers dust masks.
  • Limit noise: run vibrating machines and generators only in working hours if neighbours are close.
  • Manage waste: broken blocks and hardened concrete can be crushed for fill rather than dumped in drains.
  • Keep drains clear of cement slurry, which sets and blocks them.
  • Store diesel safely, away from the cement store and office.

Quality and your reputation

Builders return to a supplier whose blocks do not crack on site. Cement costs push some producers to stretch each bag over too many blocks, which weakens them; CemNet reported in July 2026 that a 50kg bag sold for ₦12,000-₦15,000 depending on producer and location. Agree a mix ratio and stick to it, cure every batch properly, and be ready to show a buyer how your blocks are made. Some states and engineers test blocks for strength; ask whether your state's materials testing laboratory offers testing, and keep the results.

What to check first

  1. Visit the state physical planning, environment and water offices with your site address and ask for their lists.
  2. Ask the local government which permits and levies apply.
  3. Confirm the lease allows industrial use.
  4. Budget permits before machines, so you do not stop work after opening.
  5. Cost your blocks using our guide to block moulding start-up cost and profit per block.

Builders often ask for paving stones too; see interlocking paving stone business costs. Our guide to registering a business name walks through the CAC step.

Where Pryme fits

The Compliance agent on a Pryme Business Account can keep a calendar of permit renewals and levy dates for you to approve, and receipts for each payment stay in your account records.

Questions people ask

What permit do I need to start a block industry in Nigeria?

Usually CAC registration, planning approval for structures, environmental approval from the state agency, and local government trade permits and levies. Requirements differ by state, so ask each office.

Do I need a permit to drill a borehole for a block industry?

Some states regulate boreholes on commercial premises. Ask your state water resources ministry or agency before drilling and use a registered driller.

How much land do I need for a block industry?

Enough for sand storage, a cement store, moulding, rows of curing blocks and truck turning space. Curing space is usually what runs short.

Can I run a block industry in a residential area?

Noise, dust and truck traffic often lead to complaints and enforcement. Check land use rules with your state planning authority first.
