Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Block moulding business: machine, cement and profit per block

Starting a block moulding business in Nigeria: machine options, cement price as at July 2026, sand, labour, curing and a labelled profit-per-block example.

The short answer

A small block moulding yard needs a vibrating machine, power, a borehole and a curing area; our labelled example came to ₦6,020,000 before land. Cement is the main cost per block, at ₦12,000-₦15,000 a 50kg bag in July 2026 according to CemNet; in our example a nine-inch block cost ₦710 and sold for ₦850.

Machine options

Your machine decides output, block quality and how many workers you need.

TypeHow it worksSuits
Manual mouldMix is rammed into a steel mould by handVery small output, own building project
Mobile (egg-laying) machineMoves along a concrete floor, laying blocks in rowsMedium output with a large flat yard
Stationary vibrating machineVibrates and compacts blocks onto palletsSteady commercial production
Hydraulic or automatic plantPress and conveyor system, high outputLarge industries supplying estates

Vibration and compaction make stronger, more even blocks than hand ramming. Ask sellers for a demonstration, the number of blocks per hour, power needs and how easy spare parts are to find, and compare at least two quotes.

Start-up cost

These are example figures with assumed prices for a small yard with a stationary vibrating machine; land or rent is not included.

ItemAssumption (example)Amount
Stationary vibrating block machine with motor₦1,800,000
Generator or power connection₦900,000
Borehole, pump and tank₦1,500,000
Pallets or curing floor₦300,000
Wheelbarrows, shovels, mixing tools₦120,000
Shed and cement store₦700,000
First cement and sand₦700,000
Example start-up budget₦6,020,000

The example totals ₦6,020,000. The borehole and power often cost as much as the machine. Before building, read our guide to block industry site, water and permits.

Cement price: the cost that moves most

Cement is usually the largest cost in each block. CemNet reported in July 2026 that a 50kg bag sold for ₦12,000 to ₦15,000 depending on producer and location: Dangote Cement ₦13,000-₦15,000, BUA ₦12,000-₦14,500 and HBM Nigeria (formerly Lafarge Africa) ₦12,000-₦13,500, with some unbranded or resold bags above ₦15,000 in parts of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and the south-east.

Profit per block: a worked example

This example uses a cement price of ₦13,500, inside the July 2026 range, and assumes 30 nine-inch blocks per bag. Your yield depends on your mix; stretching cement over more blocks lowers cost but weakens them, and builders who see cracked blocks do not come back.

Cost per 9-inch blockAssumption (example)Amount
Cement₦13,500 a bag ÷ 30 blocks₦450
Sharp sand₦90,000 a tipper ÷ 600 blocks₦150
Waterborehole pumping₦10
Labourmoulding and curing₦50
Machine fuel and wear₦30
Loading₦20
Cost per block₦710

Each block costs ₦710. At an example selling price of ₦850 at the yard, that leaves ₦140 a block. Selling 800 blocks a day for 24 days gives 19,200 blocks and ₦2,688,000 a month before rent, machine repairs, a guard and your own pay.

Now move cement to ₦15,000, the top of the range. Cost per block rises to ₦760 and the margin falls to ₦90, a cut of about 36%. That is why many block makers set prices for short periods, ask for deposits on big orders, and buy cement in bulk when they have the cash and dry storage.

Sand, labour and curing

  • Sand: sharp sand that is free of clay and organic matter gives strong blocks; muddy sand saves money and costs reputation.
  • Labour: crews are often paid per block moulded; agree rates in writing and count daily.
  • Curing: keep blocks in the shade and wet for several days before stacking or sale; blocks sold too early crumble.
  • Delivery: price transport separately by distance; breakages in transit come out of your margin.

Common mistakes

  • Quoting a builder for weeks at a fixed price while cement keeps moving.
  • Selling blocks before they have cured, to meet a deadline.
  • Buying a machine without checking spare parts and a local technician.
  • Letting cement absorb moisture in a leaky store, which wastes bags.
  • Giving credit to contractors without a written agreement on payment dates.

Who buys

Builders, contractors, estate developers, landlords and individuals building their own homes. Contractors bring big orders but may ask for credit; individuals pay upfront but buy in smaller loads. Many yards add paving stones, kerbs or lintels; see interlocking paving stone business costs. To keep deposits and balances in order, our guide on getting paid on time helps.

Where Pryme fits

Builders pay deposits and balances by transfer. A Pryme Business Account with invoicing records each order, and payroll can pay your crew, with each run approved before it moves.

Questions people ask

How much is a bag of cement now in Nigeria?

CemNet reported ₦12,000-₦15,000 per 50kg bag in July 2026, depending on producer and location. Ask local dealers for today's price.

How many blocks can one bag of cement make?

It depends on block size and mix. Stretching a bag over too many blocks weakens them; agree a mix that gives sound blocks and keep to it. Our example assumed 30 nine-inch blocks.

What is the profit on one block?

In our example a nine-inch block cost ₦710 and sold at ₦850, leaving ₦140 before overheads. Cement price changes move this quickly.

How much does a block moulding machine cost?

Prices vary widely by type, from manual moulds to hydraulic plants. Get demonstrations and written quotes from at least two sellers.
