Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents for chasing invoices in AED and naira

How an AI agent can track overdue invoices in two currencies, draft reminders and match payments, with a person approving before anything is sent.

The short answer

An AI agent can watch your receivables in AED and naira, flag what is overdue, draft polite reminders in the right currency and tone, and match payments as they arrive, including those short by Nigerian withholding tax. The safe pattern is that the agent prepares and a person approves: nothing goes to a customer, and no balance is written off, without sign-off.

Chasing invoices across two countries is slow work. Dubai customers pay in dirhams by bank transfer; Lagos customers pay in naira or dollars, sometimes in parts, often net of withholding tax, and usually with a screenshot rather than a remittance advice. Most of the effort is not the reminder itself but working out what is actually outstanding. That is where an agent helps.

What the agent does

  • Keeps one ageing list in two currencies. Each invoice stays in the currency it was issued in. The AED value of naira invoices is shown at the booking rate and at today's rate, so you can see exchange movement separately from non-payment.
  • Flags what needs action. Due this week, overdue by 7, 30 or 60 days, part-paid, disputed.
  • Drafts reminders. In the customer's language and the tone you set, with the invoice attached, the amount in the invoice currency and payment details.
  • Matches payments. Links incoming transfers to invoices by amount, reference and payer name, and suggests matches it is unsure about for a person to confirm.
  • Recognises WHT shortfalls. A Nigerian customer paying a services invoice may deduct withholding tax; PwC lists 10% on consultancy, technical, management and professional fees to non-residents. The agent marks the short payment as 'WHT credit note awaited' rather than chasing the gap as unpaid.

What a person must approve

Some steps should never be automatic:

  1. Sending the first reminder to a new customer, and any reminder that mentions late fees or legal action.
  2. Agreeing a payment plan or a discount for early settlement.
  3. Writing off a balance or treating it as a bad debt.
  4. Changing a customer's payment details or contact.
  5. Anything involving a disputed invoice.

Set an approval ceiling: for example, the agent may send standard reminders for invoices under an amount you choose, while anything larger or older waits for a person. Every action should be logged: what was drafted, who approved it, what was sent.

Getting the currency right

IAS 21 requires a foreign-currency invoice to be recorded at the spot rate on the transaction date, with exchange differences recognised when it is settled or at the reporting date. An agent that chases the 'AED equivalent' of a naira invoice at today's rate is chasing the wrong number. Chase the invoice currency; let the accounts deal with exchange differences. See keeping books in AED and naira.

Reminders that get paid

  • Send a friendly note before the due date, not only after it.
  • Put the invoice number, amount, currency and account details in the message itself.
  • Ask Nigerian customers for a bank confirmation or a verifiable receipt, not a screenshot; see verifiable receipts for UAE-Nigeria payments.
  • Allow for Nigerian public holidays and month-end payment runs.
  • Escalate by person, not by tone: a reminder copied to the customer's finance lead works better than a sharper message.

Data and records

An agent needs access to invoices, customer contacts and bank feeds. Limit it to what it needs, keep its log, and keep the final invoice in your records. The UAE's move to structured eInvoicing (PDFs and emails do not count as eInvoices, per the Ministry of Finance) means the invoice of record will increasingly sit in your e-invoicing system; the agent should read from it, not create a second version. See UAE e-invoicing for Nigeria-facing firms.

Setting it up

  1. Connect invoices and bank feeds for each currency, and give the agent read access only to start.
  2. Set your reminder schedule: for example, a note three days before due, then at 7, 21 and 45 days overdue.
  3. Write the tone rules: formal for new customers, warmer for long-standing ones, never threatening.
  4. Set the approval ceiling and who approves above it.
  5. Run it in draft-only mode for a month and compare its matches with your own before letting it send anything.

The first month usually shows where your data is weak: customer names that differ between invoice and bank, references left blank, and payers who split one invoice across several transfers. Fixing those helps people as much as the agent.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Business Accounts come with Chief of Staff, Finance, Compliance, Sales and Customer Support agents built by Pryme Intelligence. The Finance agent tracks receivables and drafts reminders; it prepares the work, a person approves above a set ceiling, and every action is recorded. Pryme accounts hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, and invoicing matches payments to invoices.

Questions people ask

Can an AI agent chase overdue invoices for me?

Yes. It can track what is overdue, draft reminders and match payments, while a person approves anything sent to a customer and any write-off.

How should I chase a naira invoice from a UAE company?

Chase the naira amount on the invoice, not its AED value at today's rate; exchange differences are an accounting matter.

Why did my Nigerian customer pay less than the invoice?

Often because of withholding tax; PwC lists 10% on consultancy and similar fees to non-residents. Ask for the WHT credit note.

Is it safe to let an AI send payment reminders?

With limits: set an approval ceiling, keep a log of every action and keep sensitive steps for a person.
