Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

ACRO police certificate for a job back in Nigeria

Moving home to work? How to get a UK police certificate from ACRO, how to get it legalised for a Nigerian employer, and the timing to plan for.

The short answer

ACRO Criminal Records Office provides UK police certificates, the record a Nigerian employer will usually mean when it asks for UK police clearance. Apply on ACRO's own website, where the current fee and turnaround are shown. If the Nigerian employer wants the certificate legalised, ask the FCDO Legalisation Office whether it can apostille it directly or needs a notary's certified copy first; its standard service was £45 per document as at October 2026.

A Nigerian bank, oil company, school, hospital or federal agency may ask a returning candidate for a police record from every country where they lived. For years in the UK, that usually means a police certificate from ACRO Criminal Records Office. This guide covers the order of steps and the decisions that slow people down. We could not read ACRO's own pages in October 2026, so for fees, eligibility and processing times use ACRO's site rather than any figure you see quoted elsewhere.

Is ACRO the right check?

A police certificate is only useful if it is the document the employer asked for. Before you apply, confirm with the Nigerian employer, ideally by email so you have it in writing:

  • That an ACRO police certificate is what they want, not a letter from a UK employer or a self-declaration.
  • How recent it must be. Some employers reject certificates issued more than a few months before the start date.
  • Whether they want it legalised, and in what way.
  • Whether they need certificates from other countries too, such as Nigeria itself; see getting a Nigeria police certificate from the UK.

Applying

Apply on ACRO's website. Have these ready, since most police record applications ask for them:

  1. Your passport and any previous names.
  2. Your UK addresses for the period you lived here, with dates.
  3. A delivery address. If you have already moved to Nigeria, check whether ACRO delivers there and how long courier delivery takes; it may be quicker to send it to someone in the UK who then handles the apostille.
  4. Payment for ACRO's fee and any faster service it offers.

Legalising it for Nigeria

Nigeria was not among the African states listed as parties to the Hague Apostille Convention in a July 2026 review, and a Nigerian law-firm note says apostilles are not issued in Nigeria. Even so, many Nigerian employers ask for an apostille because it is the UK government's check that a UK document is real.

GOV.UK says the FCDO can legalise documents signed by a government official and documents certified by a UK notary or solicitor. Ask the Legalisation Office whether it can apostille the ACRO certificate as issued, or whether you need a notary to certify a copy first. Fees as at October 2026:

ServiceFeeUsual time
Standard paper£45 plus postageUp to 25 working days
e-Apostille (notary or solicitor e-signs a PDF)£35Up to 2 working days

Return courier on the standard service is £42 per 1.5kg to the rest of the world, which includes Nigeria. If the employer accepts PDFs, the e-Apostille is far quicker. More detail is in our apostille guide, and the notary step in our notary guide.

Timing it

Example only: a nurse with a Lagos hospital start date of 1 March. If the employer wants a certificate issued within the last three months and apostilled, she should apply to ACRO in early December, allow ACRO's stated processing time, then up to 25 working days for a standard apostille plus courier to Lagos. Using an e-Apostille could cut that last stage to about 2 working days. Working back from the start date avoids paying for faster services at the last minute.

Before you send it to Nigeria

  • Scan both sides of the certificate and the apostille before it leaves you.
  • Check the issue date against the employer's age limit for certificates.
  • Send by tracked courier and share the tracking number with the employer's HR contact.
  • If the employer also wants your Nigerian records updated, such as a Tax ID for payroll, start that in parallel; see getting a Nigerian Tax ID from the UK.

A related guide covers ACRO certificates for other uses in Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

Moving home means running two currencies for a while: UK salary or savings in pounds, new costs in naira. A Pryme Personal Account holds GBP and NGN with local details for each, and money stays in the currency it arrived in until you choose to Swap; the app shows the rate and fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

What is an ACRO police certificate?

A UK police certificate provided by ACRO Criminal Records Office. Check ACRO's site for what it shows and who can apply.

How much does an ACRO certificate cost?

Check ACRO's website for the current fee and turnaround; we could not read its pages in October 2026.

Does a Nigerian employer need the ACRO certificate apostilled?

Many ask for it. Ask the employer in writing, then ask the FCDO whether it can apostille the certificate directly or needs a notary's certified copy.

Can I apply to ACRO after moving to Nigeria?

Check ACRO's site for overseas applications and delivery. Sending it to someone in the UK can make the apostille step easier.
