Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Swearing an affidavit in the UK for use in Nigeria

Where to swear an affidavit in the UK for a Nigerian bank, court, passport or registry, what a commissioner for oaths charges, and when you need more.

The short answer

You can swear an affidavit in the UK before a solicitor acting as a commissioner for oaths, or before a notary public. The Commissioners for Oaths (Fees) Order 1993 as made sets £5 per person swearing and £2 per exhibit. If the Nigerian body wants the affidavit apostilled, the FCDO can do that for a document certified by a UK notary or solicitor.

Nigerian processes lean on affidavits: change of name, loss of a document, age declaration, proof of marital status, a guarantor's form, a letter to a bank. If you live in the UK, you do not have to fly home to swear one. You do need to match what the Nigerian body expects, because a UK affidavit in the wrong form can be refused.

Who can take an affidavit in the UK

Two kinds of professional usually do this:

Solicitor (commissioner for oaths)
Can administer the oath or affirmation and sign the jurat. Many high-street firms offer walk-in appointments.
Notary public
Can also take oaths and adds a notarial certificate that is recognised abroad. Often preferred when the document is going overseas. See our notary guide.

Which you need depends on the wording the Nigerian body uses. "Sworn before a commissioner for oaths" points to a solicitor; "notarised" points to a notary. For example, the Nigeria Immigration Service says a passport guarantor's form is sworn before a commissioner for oaths.

What it costs

The Commissioners for Oaths (Fees) Order 1993, as made, sets a fee of £5 for taking an affidavit, declaration or affirmation for each person making it, plus £2 for each exhibit that must be marked, including VAT where payable. legislation.gov.uk shows the Order in its original form only, so ask the firm what it charges before the appointment.

ExampleFees under the 1993 Order
One person, affidavit with no exhibits£5
One person, affidavit with two exhibits (passport copy, letter)£5 + 2 × £2 = £9
Two people swearing the same document, one exhibit2 × £5 + £2 = £12

These are worked examples under the Order. A notary sets their own charge, and an FCDO apostille is extra: as at October 2026, £45 per document for the standard paper service or £35 for an e-Apostille.

Making the affidavit acceptable in Nigeria

An affidavit is your sworn statement of facts. The professional confirms who you are and administers the oath; they do not vouch for the facts. To avoid a rejection at home:

  • Use the Nigerian format if one is required. Some bodies want the heading of a particular court or registry. Have a Nigerian lawyer draft it if in doubt.
  • Match your names exactly to your passport or NIN record; explain any variant spelling inside the affidavit.
  • Attach exhibits (passport data page, old certificate) and have each marked; that is what the £2 exhibit fee covers.
  • Ask about legalisation. If the recipient wants an apostille, have a notary or solicitor certify it and send it to the FCDO. Nigeria's apostille position is explained in our apostille guide.

Change of name and lost documents

Change of name for Nigerian records often needs more than an affidavit, such as a newspaper publication. If your name changed on marriage, see changing the name on a Nigerian passport in the UK. The Nigeria-side steps for an affidavit sworn at home are covered in how to swear an affidavit in Nigeria.

Affidavit or statutory declaration?

In England and Wales a statutory declaration is a written statement declared true rather than sworn, and the 1993 Order prices it the same as an affidavit. Nigerian bodies usually ask for an affidavit by name. If a UK firm offers you a statutory declaration instead, check with the Nigerian recipient that it will accept the substitute before you pay for it, because a refusal means a second appointment and, if apostilled, a second FCDO fee.

Steps

  1. Get the Nigerian body's requirement in writing: who must take the oath, any format, whether an apostille is needed.
  2. Draft the affidavit (or have a Nigerian lawyer draft it) and prepare the exhibits.
  3. Book a solicitor or notary; bring the unsigned affidavit, your passport and the exhibits.
  4. Swear or affirm and sign in front of them.
  5. If needed, send it for an apostille, then courier the original to Nigeria and keep a scan.

Where Pryme fits

If the affidavit supports a bank or payment matter at home, keep your own records straight. A Pryme Personal Account can produce a verifiable statement through Pryme receipts, which the recipient can check is unaltered. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Questions people ask

Can a UK solicitor swear an affidavit for Nigeria?

Yes. A solicitor acting as a commissioner for oaths can take the oath. Some Nigerian bodies prefer a notary, so check their wording.

How much is it to swear an affidavit in the UK?

The Commissioners for Oaths (Fees) Order 1993 as made sets £5 per person and £2 per exhibit. Notaries and the FCDO apostille cost extra.

Will Nigeria accept an affidavit sworn in the UK?

Often yes, if it is in the form the recipient expects. Ask whether they need it notarised or apostilled.

Can I affirm instead of swearing on a holy book?

Yes. The 1993 Order covers affidavits, declarations and affirmations alike.
