Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Sent money from Canada to the wrong Nigerian account?

You typed the wrong NUBAN on a transfer from Canada. What the provider can do, how Nigerian banks handle recalls, and realistic chances of recovery.

The short answer

Contact the provider you sent with straight away, with the transfer reference, and ask it to stop or recall the payment. If the money has already been credited to someone else's Nigerian account, only the provider and the banks can request it back; the receiving bank will usually need the account holder's cooperation or a formal process, so speed matters more than anything else.

One wrong digit in a 10-digit Nigerian account number can send money to a stranger. It happens more often than people admit, especially when details are copied from a WhatsApp message. The outcome depends almost entirely on how fast you act and whether the money has already been paid out.

First hour: what to do

  1. Open the transfer in the app. If it shows a cancel option, use it now.
  2. Call or chat with the provider's support. Give the reference, the amount, the account number you used and the correct one. Ask them to stop the payout or start a recall.
  3. Ask for written confirmation that a recall request has been opened, and the case number.
  4. Ask the provider for the payout reference or session ID if the money has already left.
  5. Tell your intended recipient, so they do not assume it is on its way.

How the Nigerian side works

Most naira payouts to bank accounts in Nigeria travel on NIBSS Instant Payment. NIBSS describes it, on its page modified April 2026, as an account-number-based real-time transfer with a name enquiry that lets the sending institution check the beneficiary's details before sending. That name check is your best protection: if the account number you typed belongs to someone with a completely different name, many apps show the name back to you before you confirm. If you saw a name and confirmed anyway, the money is likely to have been credited.

Once naira is in someone else's account, it is legally their bank's customer's balance until a recall process says otherwise. In 2018 the CBN issued a regulation on instant inter-bank transfers, reported by ThisDay on 18 September 2018, which set out that for an erroneous transfer the sending institution makes a written request within 14 working days and the receiving institution acts within one business day if the funds are still available. We could not confirm how that regulation is applied today, so treat it as background, not a promise.

Realistic outcomes

SituationWhat usually happens
Transfer not yet paid outThe provider can often stop it and correct or refund it
Paid out, account number does not existThe bank rejects it and the money is returned to the provider
Paid out to a real account, funds still thereA recall can work, but it takes time and the receiving bank's process
Paid out and already spent or withdrawnRecovery is hard and may need the account holder to agree, or legal action in Nigeria

Be wary of anyone promising a guaranteed return. The banks involved will follow their own procedures, and a mistaken payment to a cooperative stranger is very different from one to an account that is emptied within minutes.

Who to escalate to

Your contract is with the provider in Canada, so it remains your first point of contact throughout. If the money went through a Nigerian bank that is not responding to the provider, the CBN's consumer complaints page says a complaint should first be made to the bank where the issue arose, then escalated to the CBN Consumer Protection Department. That route is normally used by the account holder or the sending institution, not by a sender abroad. If you think you were tricked into sending to that account, it is fraud rather than an error; see reporting a Nigeria transfer scam. The Ledger's guide on money sent to the wrong account in Nigeria explains how this looks from the receiving side.

Preventing it next time

  • Ask the recipient to send account details as text, not a photo or voice note, so you can paste them.
  • Check that the name the app shows matches the person, and stop if it does not.
  • Save the recipient once and reuse the saved profile instead of retyping.
  • For a large first transfer, send a small test amount first and ask the recipient to confirm.
  • Read the confirmation screen slowly before you approve: amount, currency, bank, account number and the returned name.
  • Be suspicious of any last-minute message saying the account details have changed. Confirm by a phone call to a number you already know.
  • Read which receiver details a Canadian sender needs.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is a technology company, not a bank. Outside Nigeria, its activities are carried out through regulated partners, and Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. On Pryme Send you see who you are paying and the rate and the fee before you approve; nothing moves until you do. Account protection is described on the security page.

Questions people ask

Can I reverse a transfer I sent to the wrong account in Nigeria?

You cannot reverse it yourself. Ask the provider to stop or recall it. If it has been credited, the banks have to process a recall, which may need the account holder's cooperation.

Will the Nigerian bank give me the wrong account holder's details?

Banks do not normally share another customer's details with a stranger. Work through the provider you paid.

How long does a recall to a wrong Nigerian account take?

There is no single timeline. It depends on whether the money is still in the account and how quickly the provider and banks act.

Does the app check the account name before sending to Nigeria?

Nigerian instant transfers include a name enquiry that lets the sending institution check the beneficiary before sending. Many apps show you that name; always read it before you confirm.
