Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2023Multicurrency

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

WorldRemit mobile money to Nigeria from the US: which wallets

WorldRemit's US page for Nigerian mobile money names OPay and Paga. The details you need, the wallet rules on names and tiers, and what can go wrong.

The short answer

WorldRemit's US mobile money page for Nigeria names two wallets, OPay and Paga Money, as at October 2026. The recipient needs a fully registered, active wallet in their own name; you enter their 10-digit wallet number without the country code, their name exactly as on the wallet, their city and a contact number. WorldRemit describes delivery as instant and charges the recipient nothing, though the wallet operator may charge to cash out.

Sending to a Nigerian mobile wallet is often the fastest way to get money to someone who does not use a bank app. WorldRemit offers it from the US, but only to certain wallets, and the details have to be exact. This guide sets out what WorldRemit's US pages say as at October 2026.

Which wallets WorldRemit names

WorldRemit's US mobile money page for Nigeria names OPay and Paga Money. Its main Nigeria page describes the service as an "instant transfer to your receiver's registered mobile money account number", without naming other wallets. If your recipient uses a different wallet, such as PalmPay or a bank's own wallet, check in the WorldRemit app whether it appears before you rely on it, or send to a bank account instead.

What the sender needs

DetailWhat WorldRemit asks
WalletOPay or Paga Money, fully registered and active
Wallet numberThe 10-digit number, without the country code
Recipient nameMust match the name on the wallet
CityThe recipient's city
Contact numberA phone number for the recipient

The name rule is the one that catches people. If the wallet is registered as "Okonkwo Grace" and you type "Grace Okonkwo Eze", the payout can fail. Ask the recipient for a screenshot of the name in their wallet app.

Fees, speed and cash-out

  • WorldRemit describes mobile money delivery to Nigeria as instant.
  • It says there is no fee for the recipient from WorldRemit, but the wallet operator may charge to cash out.
  • On its main Nigeria page, WorldRemit says the fee depends on the receive method rather than the amount, and promotes fee-free transfers when sending in naira; check the app for your transfer.
  • WorldRemit says actual delivery can differ with the accuracy of recipient information, identity verification and third-party operating hours.

Wallet tiers and limits

Nigerian wallets have KYC tiers that cap daily receipts and balances. WorldRemit's US mobile money page, which carries a 2024 copyright and no update date, lists these tiers:

TierDaily limitBalance limit
KYC 1₦30,000₦300,000
KYC 2₦100,000₦500,000
KYC 3₦1,000,000Unlimited

Because the page is undated, treat these as WorldRemit's stated figures rather than current CBN or wallet limits, and ask the recipient to check their tier in the wallet app. Our Nigeria guide to KYC tier limits explains how tiers work, and wallet versus bank compares the two.

Worked example

Example only. Ngozi in Philadelphia sends $150 to her aunt's OPay wallet. At an example rate of ₦1,500 per dollar that is ₦225,000. If her aunt's wallet were on KYC 1 as listed by WorldRemit, a ₦30,000 daily limit would block it; on KYC 2, ₦225,000 is above the ₦100,000 daily limit too. Only on KYC 3, with a ₦1,000,000 daily limit, would it go through in one transfer. Ngozi asks her aunt to check her tier first, and when it turns out to be KYC 2 she sends to her aunt's bank account instead.

Wallet or bank account?

A wallet suits a recipient who spends from their phone, pays traders by transfer and does not visit a bank branch. A bank account suits larger sums, regular support and anything that needs a statement later, such as rent or school fees. The trade-off is mostly about limits: a basic wallet tier can stop a transfer that a fully verified bank account would accept. If your recipient has both, use the wallet for small everyday amounts and the bank account for the large ones.

If the wallet payout fails

WorldRemit says delivery depends on the accuracy of the recipient information you give, and that it may need more information from you before it can process a transfer. If a wallet payout fails, check the name and number against the wallet, then contact WorldRemit through the app. If the transfer is cancelled, WorldRemit says a refund usually takes up to 7 working days; our guide to WorldRemit refunds explains the process.

What to check first

  1. Confirm the recipient's wallet is OPay or Paga, or that the app lists theirs.
  2. Get the 10-digit wallet number and the exact registered name.
  3. Ask the recipient which tier their wallet is on.
  4. Check the fee and the naira amount in the app before paying.
  5. Tell the recipient the operator may charge to cash out.

See also our guides to sending to Nigerian mobile wallets and WorldRemit fees and delivery times.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme multicurrency account holds dollars and naira, and Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners.
