Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

US bank holidays and transfers to Nigeria: what is delayed

Which Federal Reserve holidays pause ACH funding, how the Nigerian side treats public holidays, and the late-2026 dates to plan around.

The short answer

US bank holidays delay the US end of a transfer: the Federal Reserve closes on 11 federal holidays, and its FedACH service stops processing around them, so a transfer funded from a bank account waits for the next business day. On the Nigerian side, NIP instant transfers run every day, but Nigerian public holidays can still slow branch work, cash pickup and slower bank-to-bank channels.

Where a holiday actually bites

A transfer from the US to Nigeria has two ends, and each runs on its own calendar. The US end is how the money leaves you: a pull from your checking account by ACH, a wire, or a debit card payment. The Nigerian end is how it reaches your family: a credit into a Nigerian bank account, a cash pickup at a branch or agent, or a mobile wallet. A holiday on either side only matters if the step it pauses is one your transfer depends on.

The common surprise is the ACH pull. If you pay a provider from your bank account rather than a card, the money has to move through the US banking system before the provider releases anything. Wise, for example, says on its help page that ACH transfers "are processed only on business days", that a transfer started on a non-business day waits until the next one, and that non-business days during the transfer extend delivery. It says the money usually takes up to 4 business days to reach it.

The Federal Reserve holiday calendar

The Federal Reserve publishes the holiday schedule its banks follow. For 2026 it lists New Year's Day (1 January), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (19 January), Washington's Birthday (16 February), Memorial Day (25 May), Juneteenth (19 June), Independence Day (4 July), Labor Day (7 September), Columbus Day (12 October), Veterans Day (11 November), Thanksgiving (26 November) and Christmas Day (25 December). When a holiday falls on a Saturday the Reserve Banks open the Friday before; when it falls on a Sunday they close the following Monday.

FedACH pauses for the rest of 2026

Christmas Day, Fri 25 Dec 202624 Dec, 11:30 p.m.27 Dec, 5:30 p.m.

The Christmas gap is the one to plan for. Processing stops on the evening of Thursday 24 December and does not resume until the evening of Sunday 27 December, so an ACH-funded transfer you start on Christmas Eve afternoon is unlikely to be funded before Monday 28 December. The Federal Reserve page lists 2027 holidays (New Year's Day on Friday 1 January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day on 18 January and so on) but, at the time we read it, gave a FedACH processing table only for 2026.

Nigerian public holidays on the receiving side

Nigeria's Public Holidays Act sets the fixed list. The schedule in the 2004 Laws of the Federation names New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Workers' Day, Democracy Day, National Day (1 October), Christmas Day, and the days the Minister declares for Id el Fitr, Id el Kabir and Id el Maulud. Because the Islamic holidays depend on the moon, their dates are announced close to the day, and the government can also declare special days. For this year's confirmed list, see our Nigeria library page on Nigeria public holidays in 2026.

The Act also has weekend rules. Where a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, only that day is kept with no substitute; where holidays fall on a Sunday and Monday, only the Monday is kept. In practice, watch the official announcement for each holiday, because special days can be added.

What keeps working and what slows

  • Instant credits to Nigerian accounts. NIBSS describes NIP as real-time, with funds available before settlement, and Verto's payment-system summary describes NIP as running 24/7. A provider that pays out over NIP can usually credit an account on a Nigerian holiday once it has your money.
  • Slower bank channels. Verto describes NEFT and RTGS as working-day systems with daily cut-offs, so a payout routed that way can wait for the next working day.
  • Cash pickup and branch work. Zenith Bank's international money transfer page gives counter hours of 8am to 4pm on weekdays. A branch closed for a public holiday cannot pay cash that day.
  • Compliance checks. If a transfer is held for review, the people who clear it may not be working on a holiday on either side.

Planning around a holiday: steps

  1. Check the Federal Reserve schedule and your bank's cut-off before a long weekend.
  2. If the money must arrive before a holiday, fund the transfer by debit card instead of ACH where your provider allows it, and compare the fee on the quote screen.
  3. Send to a Nigerian bank account rather than cash pickup if branches will be shut.
  4. Ask the provider's app or quote screen for the expected delivery time; under the CFPB remittance rule, a covered provider must tell you when the money will be available.
  5. Keep the receipt. The 180-day window to report an error runs from the availability date the provider gave you.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds USD and NGN with local account details for each, and Swap converts only when you choose, so money you have already moved in can be converted and sent on to Nigeria without waiting for a US bank to process a fresh pull. See the multicurrency account and sending. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

Will my transfer to Nigeria go through on Thanksgiving?

A card-funded transfer may still move, depending on the provider. An ACH-funded one waits: FedACH stops at 11:30 p.m. ET on 25 November 2026 and resumes at 5:30 p.m. ET on 26 November, according to the Federal Reserve schedule.

Is Christmas Eve a Federal Reserve holiday?

No. Christmas Day is. But FedACH processing for Christmas 2026 ends at 11:30 p.m. ET on 24 December and resumes at 5:30 p.m. ET on 27 December, so late Christmas Eve requests roll into the following week.

Do Nigerian banks credit transfers on public holidays?

Instant NIP credits are designed to run every day. Branch services, cash pickup and slower NEFT or RTGS payments follow working days, so those can wait until the next working day.

Why did my weekend transfer to Nigeria take until Tuesday?

If you paid from a bank account, the ACH pull only moves on business days. A Friday evening request before a Monday holiday may not be processed until Tuesday.
