Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Nigeria public holidays 2026: full list with dates

Every Nigerian public holiday in 2026 with its date and weekday, which dates are fixed by law and which Islamic holidays move with the moon.

The short answer

Nigeria has eight fixed public holidays in 2026 plus three Islamic holidays whose exact dates depend on the moon: Eid-el-Fitr (expected around 20 March), Eid-el-Kabir (around 27 May) and Id-el-Maulud (around 26 August). The Federal Government confirms each date through the Ministry of Interior shortly before it falls, usually adding a second day for each Eid.

This page lists every national public holiday in Nigeria for 2026, the weekday it falls on, and whether its date is fixed by statute or set by declaration. Dates for the three Islamic holidays are the expected dates from the lunar calendar; the Federal Government confirms them nearer the time, and states can add their own holidays on top.

Why some dates move and others do not

Nigeria's national holidays come from the Public Holidays Act (Cap. P40, Laws of the Federation 2004), as amended. The Act fixes the civil holidays and gives the President, through the Minister of Interior, power to declare additional days. Three groups of dates behave differently:

  • Fixed civil dates: New Year's Day, Workers' Day, Democracy Day, Independence Day, Christmas and Boxing Day fall on the same calendar date every year.
  • Christian moveable feasts: Good Friday and Easter Monday follow Easter Sunday, which was 5 April in 2026. They can be calculated years ahead.
  • Islamic holidays: Eid-el-Fitr, Eid-el-Kabir and Id-el-Maulud follow the Hijri lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the solar year. The start of each month depends on sighting the new moon, so the exact day is only certain shortly beforehand. In Nigeria the Sultan of Sokoto, as head of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, announces the sighting, and the FG then declares the holiday.

Democracy Day moved from 29 May to 12 June under the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2019, marking the 12 June 1993 election. 29 May remains the date of presidential inaugurations but is not a national public holiday.

Weekend holidays and substitute days

When a fixed holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the government usually declares the following working day a holiday. In 2026 this matters for Boxing Day, which falls on a Saturday, so Monday 28 December is likely to be declared. If an Eid falls on a Friday, the second day may land on a weekend and no extra weekday may be added. The government does not always follow a single rule, so treat substitute days as provisional until the Ministry of Interior statement is out.

What a public holiday means for money and business

  • Banks: branches close, but transfers through NIP, cards, USSD and apps run as normal. Cheque clearing and some settlement processes wait for the next working day. See how NIP instant payments work.
  • Tax and filing deadlines: where a deadline falls on a public holiday, it generally moves to the next working day. Check the Nigeria small business compliance calendar for the dates that apply to you.
  • Staff: the Labour Act does not set a national holiday-pay rate. What staff are paid for working on a holiday depends on the contract, any collective agreement and company policy.
  • Trade: Eid and Christmas weeks bring peak shopping. Our seasonal guides for Lagos and Abuja cover planning stock and cash for them.

Ramadan and working hours

Ramadan 1447 AH is expected to run from about 18 or 19 February to 19 March 2026. It is not a public holiday, but some state governments, mainly in the north, shorten official working hours during the month, and many businesses adjust opening times. Eid-el-Fitr follows the end of the month.

State holidays

States can declare their own work-free days, such as for a state creation anniversary, an Isese festival day, or the first day of the Islamic new year in some northern states. These apply only to state public servants and residents of that state, and are announced by the state government.

How we put this together

Fixed dates come from the Public Holidays Act as amended in 2019. Easter dates are calculated from the Western Christian calendar. Islamic dates are the expected Gregorian equivalents of 1 Shawwal, 10 Dhul Hijjah and 12 Rabi' al-Awwal 1447 AH. We could not confirm each 2026 Ministry of Interior declaration from the primary source at the time of this update, so the Islamic and substitute days are shown as expected, not declared. For next year, see Nigeria public holidays 2027.

Questions people ask

How many public holidays does Nigeria have in 2026?

Eleven national holiday dates in a typical year: eight fixed by law (including Good Friday and Easter Monday) plus three Islamic holidays. Extra days are often added for each Eid and for weekend holidays, so the number of days off is usually higher.

When is Sallah holiday in 2026?

Eid-el-Fitr is expected around Friday 20 March 2026 and Eid-el-Kabir around Wednesday 27 May 2026. The FG confirms the days, and any second day, through the Ministry of Interior.

Is 29 May still a public holiday in Nigeria?

No. Since 2019 Democracy Day is 12 June. 29 May remains the date presidents are sworn in.

Do bank transfers work on public holidays in Nigeria?

Yes. Instant transfers, card payments, USSD and app banking run every day. Branches close and some settlement and cheque processes move to the next working day.
