Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

UK marriage certificate to change your name at a Nigerian bank

A Nigerian bank can change your name after a UK marriage using the certificate or an affidavit, and update your BVN. What the CBN rules say.

The short answer

A Nigerian bank can change your name after a UK marriage on the strength of your marriage certificate or an affidavit, and the change is made to your BVN record at the same time; a 2016 CBN circular says marriage name changes are allowed with a marriage certificate or affidavit and that requests should be resolved within five working days of all required documents. Ask the bank whether it wants the UK certificate certified, notarised or apostilled before you send it.

What the CBN rules allow

Your bank holds your name on two records: the account itself and your Bank Verification Number. The CBN controls how the BVN can change. A circular of 24 February 2016 (reference BPS/DIR/GEN/CIR/16/003) set out the rules, and the CBN's 2021 BVN framework, as reported by Technext, kept the same approach:

  • A name change for marriage is allowed with a marriage certificate or an affidavit.
  • The framework also lists divorce and religion as reasons, supported by a certificate, an affidavit or a newspaper advert.
  • Totally or partly different names are allowed with documents but are reported to the NFIU as suspicious.
  • Your name must be the same across all your accounts.
  • The bank should resolve the request within five working days of receiving all the documents.

Taking a spouse's surname is the simplest case. Adding a double-barrelled surname or changing first names makes the bank more likely to ask for an affidavit as well.

Making the UK certificate acceptable

A marriage certificate from England and Wales is a UK registry document, and the FCDO can apostille registry certificates (paper apostille £45 per document, up to 25 working days, as at October 2026). Nigeria is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so a Nigerian bank is free to ask for an apostille, a notarised copy, or nothing more than a clear copy. Ask before you pay. The e-Apostille (£35) only applies to PDFs signed electronically by a UK notary or solicitor, so it suits a certified copy rather than the original certificate.

In the UK itself, GOV.UK says you do not need a deed poll to take your spouse's surname; you send the marriage certificate to each organisation. The Nigerian side works the same way for a marriage name change, with an affidavit as the fallback.

The order that avoids mismatches

  1. NIN first, if you can. Updating the NIN first means any record later checked against NIMC data already carries the new name. See NIN name correction from the UK.
  2. Bank and BVN. Use the bank's customer information update form or its non-resident desk. Send the certificate (in the form the bank asks for), your ID in the new name if you have it, and the update form.
  3. Nigerian passport. The Nigeria High Commission in London handles passport name changes for marriage; its requirements for married women include the marriage certificate, the husband's signed consent letter and his data page. See changing your Nigerian passport name after marriage.
  4. Other accounts. Every bank where you hold an account must carry the same name, per the CBN.

Documents checklist

DocumentWhyForm the bank may want
UK marriage certificateEvidence of the marriage name change under the CBN rulesOriginal, certified copy, notarised copy or apostilled
Affidavit linking both namesFallback where the certificate is not enough, or names differSworn before a commissioner for oaths or notary
ID in the new nameShows the change is in useUK passport or driving licence copy, often certified
Bank update formThe bank's own record of the requestSigned, sometimes with a signature verification
NIN slip in new nameMatches the BVN change to NIMCCopy

Ask whether the bank accepts the request by email from its non-resident desk, by courier, or only at a branch. If a relative is to take documents into a branch for you, ask whether the bank accepts that and what letter of authority it wants.

Worked example

Example. Ngozi Okafor marries in Croydon and becomes Ngozi Adeyemi. Her Nigerian bank asks for the marriage certificate with an apostille. She orders a certificate from the register office, sends it to the FCDO (£45 paper service), and couriers the apostilled certificate to the bank with its update form and a copy of her UK passport in her new name. The bank updates the account and her BVN; under the CBN circular it should resolve the request within five working days of receiving everything. She then changes her name on a second Nigerian account, because the CBN expects the same name on all of them.

What to check first

  • Which form of the certificate does the bank accept: copy, certified copy, notarised, apostilled?
  • Does the bank accept documents by email or courier from abroad, or only at a branch?
  • Is your NIN already in your married name?
  • Do you hold accounts at other Nigerian banks that also need changing? See BVN name mismatches.

Where Pryme fits

A consistent name across your NIN and BVN makes every account easier to run from abroad, including a Pryme account, which holds NGN, GBP, USD and EUR with local details for each (multicurrency account).

Questions people ask

How do I change my name in my Nigerian bank after marriage abroad?

Send the bank your marriage certificate (or an affidavit) with its update form. The bank changes the account and your BVN together.

Will a Nigerian bank accept a UK marriage certificate?

The CBN rules allow a marriage certificate for a name change. Ask whether the bank wants it certified, notarised or apostilled.

How long does a BVN name change take?

A 2016 CBN circular says requests should be resolved within five working days of all required documents.

Do I need to change my name on all my Nigerian bank accounts?

Yes. The CBN expects the same name across all your accounts.
