Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

UAE golden visa for entrepreneurs: can Nigerian founders apply?

The entrepreneur golden visa runs five years and u.ae lists no nationality bar: you need a project, proof of its value and an incubator letter.

The short answer

Yes. The u.ae golden visa page lists no nationality restriction, and the entrepreneur route gives a five-year residence visa to founders who can show an innovative or technical project, documents proving its value and a letter from a business incubator or the relevant authority in the emirate. Applications go through ICP, GDRFA in Dubai, or TAMM in Abu Dhabi.

Nigerian founders in the UAE usually hold a partner or investor visa tied to their own company, renewed every couple of years with the licence. The golden visa is a longer residence route that does not depend on an employer. This guide explains what the official portal says for entrepreneurs, what it leaves out, and how a Nigerian founder can prepare.

What u.ae says (updated 28 July 2026)

Validity
Five years for entrepreneurs
Evidence
Proof of innovative or technical projects; documents proving the project's value
Endorsement
A letter from a business incubator or a relevant authority in the emirate
Family
Holders can sponsor family members, including spouses and children
Time abroad
Holders can stay outside the UAE beyond the usual six-month limit that applies to ordinary residence visas
Where to apply
ICP eServices (with an eligibility checker), GDRFA for Dubai, TAMM or the Abu Dhabi Residents Office

The page does not mention nationality, so a Nigerian passport is not in itself a bar. It also does not publish a fee, a minimum project value for entrepreneurs, or the list of recognised incubators.

How the entrepreneur route compares with other categories

Category on u.aeValidityHeadline requirement
Entrepreneurs5 yearsProject, proof of value, incubator or authority letter
Public investments10 yearsMinimum capital of AED 2 million
Real estate investors5 yearsAED 2 million

If your company's capital or your property holdings reach the investor thresholds, those routes may be clearer to evidence than the entrepreneur letter. See the golden visa through property and investor visas for company owners.

Preparing as a Nigerian founder

  1. Start with the eligibility checker on ICP (or GDRFA for Dubai residents) to see which category the system offers you.
  2. Describe the project in a way an incubator can endorse. "Innovative or technical" is the portal's phrase; a trading company reselling goods may find it harder to fit than a technology or product business.
  3. Gather proof of value. Audited accounts, a valuation, investment received or contracts. Keep Nigerian revenue documents tidy; where they come from a Nigerian subsidiary, CAC filings and bank statements help.
  4. Approach an incubator or authority early. Ask what it needs to issue a letter and how long that takes.
  5. Check your passport. Make sure your Nigerian passport has enough validity for the stamping, and renew first if needed through the mission.

Where applications tend to stall

  • A project description that reads as ordinary trading rather than innovative or technical, which makes the endorsement letter harder to get.
  • Proof of value that cannot be traced, such as revenue paid in cash or through personal accounts in Nigeria.
  • Names spelled differently across the passport, the trade licence and Nigerian company records.
  • Family documents that have not been attested, which slows sponsorship after the main visa is granted.

A Nigerian founder whose company is newer than a year may also find proof of value thin; audited first-year accounts, signed client contracts and evidence of investment received tend to carry more weight than projections. Each of these is fixable before you apply, and fixing them costs less than a refused application and a second fee.

Family and time outside the UAE

Two features matter to Nigerian families. Sponsoring a spouse and children is possible under the golden visa, as u.ae states, which can matter if you do not meet the ordinary family sponsorship rule (u.ae sets a minimum salary of AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation), described in salary needed to sponsor your family. And because golden visa holders can stay outside the UAE beyond the usual six-month limit, a founder who spends long spells in Lagos building the Nigerian side of the business does not risk the visa lapsing in the way an ordinary residence visa might.

A worked example

Example only. Femi runs a Dubai-registered logistics software company with a Lagos subsidiary and paying clients in both countries. He uses the ICP eligibility checker, which points him to the entrepreneur category. He asks a Dubai incubator programme he joined in 2025 for an endorsement letter, assembles audited accounts and client contracts as proof of value, and applies through GDRFA. He then sponsors his wife and two children under the new visa and plans a three-month stay in Lagos without worrying about the six-month rule.

What to check first

  • Which category the ICP or GDRFA eligibility checker offers you.
  • Whether a recognised incubator or authority will endorse your project.
  • The current government fee on the application channel.
  • Your passport validity and your family's documents for sponsorship.

Where Pryme fits

Founders splitting time between Dubai and Lagos can keep personal money in one Pryme account holding NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, and the company's on a separate Business Account. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can Nigerians get the UAE golden visa?

What do I need for the UAE entrepreneur golden visa?

Proof of an innovative or technical project, documents proving its value, and a letter from a business incubator or relevant authority in the emirate, according to u.ae.

How long is the entrepreneur golden visa?

Five years, according to u.ae. Public investors and some other categories get ten years.

Can I sponsor my family on a golden visa?

Yes. u.ae says holders can sponsor family members, including spouses and children.
